As a bass player myself, Frankie Bello is a hero because he is one of the very few finger players in metal who still sound as ballsy and heavy as any pick player. Dude is a beast, even while tearing around on stage like a lunatic.

Totally agree, Frankie never gets a mention and he was one of the few bass players who's original independent sound really stands out. Him and Ellefson (Megadeth) really stood out in the thrash genre the most I think.

Anthrax holds a special spot in my heart forever. Well, at least lead vocalist Joey Belladonna does. Last year I went on one of those 30 heavy metal band cruises and he was onboard. Long story short...all the stars aligned and I got to sit in on drums with Joey and the backing band on two Black Sabbath covers in a lounge on the ship. Absolute dream come true. I'll share the link to the video of that's cool with you.

Im a 50 year old dude, got to see these fellas, a bucket list band from my youth, for Father's Day when they toured with Slayer on there Farewell Tour. These dudes bring the energy for EVERY song. When this song started, the ENTIRE FIELD started moshing uncontrollably. It was the greatest experience I'd ever had. None of that circle mosh crap just marching around. It was the greatest energy release on the planet that night.

Out of the "Big 4", Anthrax was the only east coast band. "Indians" is another good one representing their style, especially a live performance with Joey wearing his headdress. Another song that's metal, but not really thrash that you should check out is "When the Crowds are Gone" by Savatage. I think you could really relate to the lyrics.

@@FuckKZbinAndGoogle Yeah because Among the Living was a medicore thrash album when it came out in the 80s, said no-one who was there enjoying thrash in it's hayday, also that's his personal subjective choice, that's the band he resonates with. Imagine being such a pathetic prick that you felt the need to shit on the fact he digs a particular band you don't, and also completely missing the point of what Thrash was all about.

Don't know if you caught the lyrics Charis, but this song has some profound lyrics, namely when he says - "Think before you speak, or suffer for your words" and "Learn to give respect, that others give to you" Some on the outside not knowing metal think it just anger and hate, but if you dig into it, it's much deeper.

Great to see these reactions Charis. I grew up listening to these guys. Another fun one to watch is the recording of the Theme from Game of Thrones in which Scott Ian (rhythm guitarist in Anthrax) just rocks the rhythm guitar throughout the performance of the theme like a God while everyone else rocks out with their own interpretations of the theme. Well worth watching... it is the Fender studios one.

Anthrax were the most fun of all the big thrash bands. their playing was just as hard ands technical as any other band, but their subject matter was a little lighter. They wrote songs based on comic books and Stephen King novels back when other bands were writing about Satan and killing people.

Anthrax is still the best live show I have ever seen. It was Newcastle, Australia in '97 on the 'Stomp 442' tour. John Bush nearly got into a fight with security goons for being to heavy handed, Frankie fell of the stage, the band walked off and Scott Ian came out to address the crowd and said "This is the craziest show we've played since Jersey in '82..." They then came back out and just took the roof off the place for the rest of the show.

Metallica and Megadeth are from San Francisco. These guys are from New York. Metallica and Megadeth were trying to write about serious subject matter. These guys were into writing about having a good time and joking. They were the Van Halen of thrash metal. They were the inventors of rap metal, and even toured with Public Enemy. They wrote the first rap metal song, "I'm the Man"

Anthrax was a very important band, largely because the thrash scene was very heavy on the west coast, particularly in the Bay Area. All of the big thrash bands, Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, Exodus, Slayer, they were all on the west coast just killin it, there was nobody on the east coast doing this kind of music. Thankfully, along came Anthrax and proved thrash was loved from coast to coast and full of raw energy to rival any band from any corner of the country.

The song doesn’t mean caught in a literal mosh pit but caught up in life situations that you can’t get out of (debt, relationship, etc). Whatever that situation is, that’s the mosh (pit). HOWEVER, the song title is inspired by a real mosh pit…. when Scott Ian’s guitar tech injured his back in a mosh-pit. When asked what happened he replied, “I got caught in a mosh”. Also, they were not all wearing their own merch… Scott Ian was wearing a Public Enemy shirt (hardcore rap/hip-hop band with Chuck D & Flava Flav)… speaking of Public Enemy, next Anthrax song - “Bring the Noise” featuring Public Enemy….. that song is PE’s original work but made a metal/rap “cover” song in 1991. That collaboration started… or should I say, help…. in bringing a new style of metal called ‘nu metal’ - bands like Korn, Slipknot, Rage Against the Machine, Limp Bizkit (ugh), etc that infuse the rap & hip-hop sound to metal.

context: (from a metal head who grew up with this)... there was an anthem thing going on... like who could make "the " song... this was one of the most under rated.. the big hit (imo) was "Toxic Waltz" by Exodus... but this is so great... I like the album version a bit better - it has the same energy.. plus the album itself is one of the best meta albums ever top to bottom (and artwork).. anthrax got more cred/movement on their RAP collaborations... "bring the noise" and also their own "I am the man" ... which.. to this day is so unique.... by the way your reaction shows the headbang urge... and that is what it is all about...

Anthrax has quite a variety of songs in their catalog and were not afraid to cross genres of music, including rap... They are one of the 'Big 4' of thrash metal, but they had songs that had more in common w/ Kiss, and The Ramones... than Metallica and Slayer. Their best songs include: "I am the law" ... 'A.I.R.' ... 'Metal thrashing mad' ... 'Who cares wins' ... 'Armed and dangerous'... 'Got the time' (Joe Jackson cover)... 'Room for one more'... "What doesn't die"... 🤘🤘🔥🔥 But some of their more diverse songs include: 'Only'... 'Antisocial' (Trust cover) ... 'Safe home'... 'Inside out'... 'In the end'... 🔥🔥
