After the therapy dogs have let out some energy in the playground, it’s time to go to work and help some rescue dogs. First up, Hope and Faith the Boxers.
Hope has a real love for being a part of the pack and racing with them on the quad runs. She’s quickly learning about processing the excitement she reads from the other dogs in the pack. A really important skill to learn in our experience.
Together they are both progressing well with puppies and small dogs. We are still making conscious decisions on ‘who’ and ‘when’. But these quieter social walks through the bush and the open paddock are times we can all be together to help Faith and Hope.
And it is helping. These Boxers were so shut down. But they really are enjoying these days. Hope has found a new lease on life with the activities. And whilst Faith isn’t quite as involved she has begun to follow the pack but just on the outside. I tried to video a few moments of her. Both get very excited to join in and absolutely want to come out to socialise.
… and Freddie the Whippet races the quad for the very first time. He’s not even trying and he’s lightning fast. Luna makes jumping fences look like nothing. All just to get to Uncle Luke. She’s very impressive. We thought Yoyo was an incredible jumper but Luna takes the medal. Training a dog not to jump a specific fence or a specific gate is very achievable. Training is done at the specific gate and or fence. So training on ours, doesn’t transfer to another home. This is just our training. There are others who use various methods and tools. Luna doesn’t jump to escape, she just wants to be by her person. She needs someone to be home a lot. And when they leave, she needs suitable containment. Inside the house, or say an enclosed verandah etc. There’s lots of scenarios which can be suitable as a home environment for Luna.
