Thanks for this demo, it helped me pick from the 100s of overdrive/distortion effects out there. I actually like to stack it with my EHX Bass Soul Food that I also got based on this channel’s demo. Very versatile box, and with the BSF I can get an awesome full tone with a little 10W practice amp

The video was an inspiration to get one. I have tried several OD for Bass. This pedal is definetily one of the best OD for Bass. To use it completly with all the distorted sounds you can create with the Hot Wax you need a (simple) Noisegate!

The OD quality with the BLEND knob can only be paired by DarkGlass stuff. Sounds damn good.

there's a point toward the end with a relatively low drive setting that is absolutely killer. seems like the sort of pedal you need to tweak juuuuuust right

Awesome demo! 😎🤘🏻🎸I’ve had this pedal and it’s a truly unique overdrive pedal. I personally liked the crayon circuit. It has a warm but heavy overdriven sound. Speaking of which, At a certain setting, you can get a sound similar to a darkglass vintage microtubes. Plus it sounds incredibly heavy sound with both overdrive circuits activated. Highly underrated pedal that’s worth checking out.

It simple really. Just use the crayon circuit with the gain at 3 ‘o clock(or lower if you don’t want too much gain), set the bass control at 1 ‘o clock, treble control at 11’ o clock, and the blend at noon or lower(depending on how much clean signal you want).

Hi, the annoying "beeep" sound isn't produced by the pedal, it comes from the big joe switching mode power supply. I already had this with my Morley Power Wah. I switched to a supply with a conventional transformer and the hiss was gone.

Didn't know this pedal has blend knob (hope that annoying high frequency "beep" is not a "signature" of the Hot Wax). Gotta check one out.

It seems like for a decent bass tone, the Bass EQ control has to be almost full and the Treble EQ almost completely scooped. Does this mean that the pedal is not particularly versatile when using for Bass? (I'm considering buying this for my bass pedal board as I prefer guitar distortion pedals over bass ones)

@@PingPongPix today i have a Battalion Nano, that I use as an OD and it is absolutely GREAT, because it allows you to EQ the OD and the clean separetely. and the CLEAN signal rocks. But I consider seriously getting this one, as well, because of the tone.

Just watched a couple other demos just to check, and yeah, it's just this unit. Everything else I've heard sounds great.

I presume that all units will have this "peep". And it is not the fault of the pedal. Simply the bass is PJ. P pickup is humbucking, and J is single coil. There is always a slight hum with a PJ setup. And when you crank the gain or treble, it just gets amplified and we hear the beep. Bass equipped with both humbucking pu's won't have this sort of beep. If you dial the treble control waaaaay back, this pedal truly shines. Because it is a guitar pedal the bass control covers most of the mids we need for a full sound. If you put the bass control past 3 and the treble before 11 this pedal is absolute gold.

The tubes peep is in the same frequency of a low quality chopper PSU. They might have powered it with some crappy power supply.

Tomislav Simić We used a Big Joe PS-202 Adapter. Same one we always use. It supplies 1700mA and this pedal requires 200mA so the pedal wasn't starved for power.

Yeah dark glass alpha omicron is awesome... But also nearly 2x the cost of the hot wax. And the bigger ones are 3x more. I mean there are only like 2 capacitors and maybe the odd resistor that determines how "bass friendly" a guitar pedal is... It is a bass guitar after all 😉 The fact the wet/dry knob is there opens the pedal for better access for bassists, and tbh there is only the hot wax, the battalion and dark glass stuff that really tickle my personal taste for bass drives.

Work on your flat picking. You're dragging the pick across the strings at too much of a diagonal.
