I bought one recently and I absolutely love that pre-amp

I bought one of these last year & it's still going strong even after pulling off my pedalboard & flew threw the air onto a hard floor...i've gigged with it & i was pretty impressed....i found both channels were well useable, the FET channel is very clean & cuts through live really well, the Tube channel is really good for something with no tubes, well designed, 660ohm output is good enough to drive an XLR DI, Really like using this in Rock or Punk, it just breaks up slightly very nicely without sounding brash or artificial..no cab sim but i try & mix it with a parrallel dry signal from my mic'd up amp & cab, Warwick WA300 Class A Solid State bass amp, Ashdown 15" & 12" cabs depending on venue or my really good Eden 1 x 15" deep bass cab with whizzer cone no tweeter, 32hz - 14khz great for Rock, Punk etc or a 5 string for Rap etc, great Pre-Amp DI pedal, hopefuly it will keep going for a long time to come, good demo....

This thing has the right amount of drive sound I have been looking for. I had myself a 2nd hand one, and stop looking for another pre-amp for the rest of my life.

I've had one of these for a few months and I love it! I've tried a few other bass pre-amps, but I bought this mainly because of the sounds I was hearing in youtube reviews of the digbeth amps and it has more than delivered on that, but also much more - the headphone socket means that this is now my portable practice amp, and I usually run the output straight into the effects return of my old Ashdown bass rig as it sounds better then the pre-amp built into the amp IMO. The last gig I played, the provided backline bass amp was horrible so I DI'ed the Digbeth straight into the PA and it sounded awesome. The effects loop is also surprisingly useful (I usually have a compressor plugged into that which works better in the loop than before the pedal IMO)

I picked up this pedal to use as a practice amp with a good set of headphones. And it is just amazing! Mixing the clean with some tube, it didn't take long before I found a tone I liked. And made practice that bit moor fun. Would recommend this to eny one starting out.

Came for the pedal, stayed for the bass licks But seriously, this pedal sounds great, and has pretty much every single feature you would need for home recording or for a live stage. I'm surprised I had not heard of it until you guys did your bass DI shootout (which is another amazing demo video worth watching). You could combine it with a IR loader cab sim pedal if needed (I have the coral which might work). And the price is very reasonable. Thanks for the demo!

The Digbeth seems to have a somewhat dark and thick tone, not a bad thing by any means. Personally I think it’s priced really well and has a lot of great features but I’d be keen to find out if it can get clanky too.

I have one of these on my board...a few issues though...first the aux in and headphone out are super quiet... I had to buy a preamp for my iPad to lift playback volume to any where near where I like to hear it. Laney offered to mod it for me which was cool ..but not needed in the end. Second issue for me , and more important, the DI output signal is almost in audible if I go pre.... And I run a jazz bass with John east on board preamp (which is awesome) so should be oodles of output...but then I have the same problem with the output to my bass rig. I run biamp and the second signal path terminates with a Steve Harris preamp from Tech 21...I have to have the Laney running flat out (absolutely dimed) on both Tube and Fet mixed with the tilt at about 10 o'clock to get volume out of it...the Tech 21 is basically running on 2 ..anymore and it completely drowns the Laney out.... so while it does sound good, balancing it in a biamp rig is a nightmare for me... And lastly the gain/drive is horrible ...I mean really horrible. But yet despite this it is a good pedal..if you can lift the output volumes to a decent level it does add that lovely round tube sound...it's also Stella value.

Been A/B'ing bass DI pedals with an eye towards a SansAmp, and here's what I've arrived at: Unsuprisingly, all the Tech21 pedals have a similar bent to them - "mellow" or "muted" to my ears. The O.G. SansAmp was my favorite Tech21 pedal, but I much prefer the Origin Super Vintage and Laney Digbeth DB-PRE - it's a close call between the two. However, I also really like the Fire Eye "Red Eye" which is a high impedance preamp and doesn't attempt to emulate any amp or cabinet. I haven't been able to A/B a Red Eye against a Super Vintage or Digbeth to see how they compare "clean versus clean" and decide if it's worth running a Red Eye and maybe adding a modeling effect in the effects loop or at the mixer. Any thoughts on this? Anyone got a Red Eye and some other "DI + drive" pedal and could an A/B comparison video?

I don’t know much about electronics and stuff and I may be wrong, but isn’t what some people claim that makes the Spector Haz Lab preamp special the “FET” circuitry? That first riff you guys played gave me massive Spector tone vibes, I’m not sure if that’s attributed to the FET stuff

I wish it had a or loader also. I have the nux Melvin Lee Davis preamp pedal. It’s has a IR loader multiple cabs sim slots and three preamp. I don’t like the drive compared to this one but the laney doesn’t have cab sim options. The tube drive on the laney is AMAZING!!

@@soulstart89can you use the drive channel on the MLD as a solo boost?
@soulstart897 ай бұрын
@@joshdennis1 hey. I don’t quite get the question. Do you mean can you boost the drive volume independently to the overall sound? If so no. You have a blend channel where I have found that playing with this gives a change in character between get channel and drive channel
@joshdennis17 ай бұрын
@@soulstart89 thanks :) I was meaning the if the drive channel is inherently louder than the clean channel, meaning it could give you an additional cut through in mix.
@soulstart897 ай бұрын
@@joshdennis1 oh. Yes once you tune it on you do get a boost even when it’s a a low setting. I’ll be honest, I wish I bought the digbeth. This pedal is very good. It has ir’s but it’s very hard to control the drive. I wish it had an independent volume control like the digbeth. I’m in the process of updating my combo. It will either be a mark bass, gk mb112 or the Aguilar tone hammer rig. I love the tone hammer tone for pbass. Problem is mark bass and Aguilar don’t have a headphone out

Great Great Great tones but some of the playing is a little meh when it comes to timing not trying to dog, just something I noticed. Thanks for an awesome review of this little beast
@davedixon21672 жыл бұрын
Well, it doesn't impact the display of the sound quality of the pedal at least. I seem to play like dogshit in the prerecorded loops - I can admit that - so if you mean me then I'll own it. I blame the fact that we record them to a straight snare-only click and sitting down, neither of which make for groovability, and neither of which I ever do when I am actually playing, even at home.
@joshbeast85992 жыл бұрын
Dave your playing is not dog shit! Your just saying that cause it gives you that smelly face when you play!😉

@@davedixon2167 why not just record with the actual track then? I'm sure there is a reason but in my head that would make the most sense.
@davedixon21672 жыл бұрын
@@Munchable420 The click makes it so that Chris can easily align generic drum tracks under the riffs. IDK, it's not up to me, but also, how well or badly I play is inconsequential, especially when we have other players in the vids that are sheer monsters like Josh and Jayme.
