You can pick both affinities. Just can't have both founders keepers II and shadow seeker II. And if you have both a brilliance powered gemerator and horror powered generator hooked up to the same catapult(s), you can combine planar strikes, resulting in massive damage and vine ground. Used this mechanic to destroy Nightmare Werepig and Fuelweaver, as well as the seasonal bosses.

Honestly, while I prefer, lorewise, the Shadow Affinities, as I believe Winona will naturally pull towards Charlie in order to find and save her, I vastly prefer the game-mechanics flavor of the Lunar Affinities. Winona was always the Tinkerer class first, Charlie's sister second to me, so it only makes sense to give her new gadgets to play with, and those are sadly only found in Wagstaff's caches, not CHarlie's shadow-rose voodoo. That aside, I also prefer the Pure Horror vine-apults over the Pure Brilliance work-apults. The former can be used to one-time set up a great boss arena that I can lure the bosses towards. The latter will require me to move my entire catapult setup around every time I need to mine resources, or only limit myself to a tree orchard or similarly regrowable resource farm grown around my setup.

If I build new catapults every time I wanna harvest a new field of rocks, for example, I am wasting a not-insignificant amount of resources (Tape, twigs, planks, doodads, rocks) on the catapult and G.E.M.erator every time I need new resources. And if I just use the same singular catapult, that's still me dismantling or packing up the catapult and G.E.M.erator, then moving them to the rock field, then setting them up, inserting Pure Brilliance into the G.E.M.erator, and then waiting for them to break the rocks for me so I can walk over and pick them up. While option 2 is cheaper here, I still wonder if, in either case, it wouldn't have been faster to just go and mine the damn rocks myself with my oppulent pickaxe, or maybe I even have a few pig/merm followers to make it go even faster still. It's just a lot of time spent on setup to hasten a process that didn't take too long in the first place.

I see beard being a little disappointed with winona, but I believe she's amazing. She has a lot of potential, using nmf for generators is so cheap, the best heat source ever existed, infinite fuel for megabases, and good foundations for the best of the best farms. You could cheese a lot of bosses with a flute or a shadow prison and her teleport is a real competitor to wandas backtreck watch (her clock is still better for some applications, like going to the ruins). The fact you can dismantle stuff makes it a one time investment and shes no longer just a situational swap character. Her dismantling allows: heat in winter, just put a gen and a spotilight. Teleport catapults with portasol thay don't fit in your inventory. Using a elightened shard gen for many different farms without even fuel. Save massive amount of resources. Her teleport with portasol is quite special. It's far cheaper than any other tp option (backtreck, wortox, lazy deserter, telelocator) can be done much, much often and it's not season locked. It can help you move the stuff from the ruins station to an entrance back and forth. And it's super cheap like you can do many more time than you could ever do with any other method. The teleport works like a telelocator and while you cant really use it with different portals or move teammates (that would be TOO broken) it still very good since you can move alters and suspicious marbles, or kill people, tp peoples stuff then revive at meat effigy.

For both these Trees I will say two things; They do what they aimed to do well and that's fun and fine, however, many of the fundamentals of both characters were straight up passed over for multiple levels of individual skills that occasionally mean literally nothing and that's too much wasted potential.

@@TheBeard777 I mean the fundamental of winona's gameplay was creating afk farms, which is very fun for a few people but not really interactive, and not really the intended way to play the game. The character was made much more practical and fun and I think it's a good thing. Even then they still managed to keep the spirit of the base character, while nerfing the capacity she had to invest tons of resources and time to get omegabroken afk farms that trivialize the game for the entire server

Yknow with winona being able to dismantle catapults you can actually do a fun engineer gameplay where you quickly setup a generator and a catapult and then begin a fight where you get some extra damage by the nearby catapults

I just had a revelation about the calibrated perceiver. When you defeat Klaus (not holiday Klaus) you obtain a few packs of bundled supplies. If you use a perceiver on one before you open it, it unlocks the bundling wrap blueprint, without needing to fight Bee Queen.

Shadow affinity looks *awesome* in Winona's skill tree. The majority of these skill trees barely seem to offer anything for siding with Charlie, with most of them either just suffering from a damage boost to fewer overall mobs or having skills that are straight up worse in every way, but Winona has some game changing perks

gotta love Winonas spotlight perks when winter comes. love the hotlight tho what if the hotlight perk was a lil different? instead of just heating it required a gem to either heat or cool like red gem for heating and blue gem for cooling tho can only take 1 or couple gems of 1 type of gem and cant be changed after tuning the spotlight/s to said gem/s and it would work just like the hotlight perk.. heating during winter and cooling during summer depending on what gem was used.... would probably be a lil to op lol

I was hopeful for more early crafts in her tree. Few too many perks for number go up. BUT, i love that she isn't locked behind an end-game boss to get afinity, i wish more characters were like that, and it wasn't just "oh you want the cool lunar stuff for them? *KILL THE HARDEST BOSS IN THE GAME*" Great explanation, though, might try winona a bit now but idk if its enough.

Honestly I've always wished Winona was more of a utility and convenience character than focusing on these catapults. Her kit focusing on devices that can be set up to slowly farm resources or even do some basic refinement type crafting automatically

Slight correction. Shadow Seeker I does not allow for you to choose wormholes. That's only accessable through Shadow Seeker II. Reason I bring it up is because you can't access all wormholes, and the Tele Umbrella at the same time. Also, you can now only have one hologram in your inventory at a time.

Could have used more utility tbh but those huge number buffs should make her insane in combat (provided you have the right setup) which may be more important to the vast majority of players. Also I find the lore implications quite interesting as you can side with Charlie ( well it s her sister afterall) or go against her ( either she likes Wagstaff too much which is unlikely or sees that the only way to save her is to join forces with her enemies). Speaking of lore is it me or all the lore bits we have been getting over the years seem to add up which isn t all that bad until you consider the fact that they are spread thin across DS, DST and many other external sources ( the mural puzzles, animated shorts and other smaller things)

I don't understand why you'd say the catapults atack speed skills make them less efficient. Unless there's something else that i'm not aware of, the atack speed boost means you can get the same damage output with less catapults. 6 catapults have the same damage output as 5 catapults with the 20% increase, which means a little less energy spent in idle mode. It's probably not worth it though, but it sure is arguably more efficient.

whats the point even to all of this min max efficiency, i mean bruh, you can just either make more generators or catapults to compensate for dmg or might as well fight yourself alongside with catas, would want 1 skill point for atk speed 1 for AoE and 1 for health or regen on them or even better smth else entirely such as diffrent new QOL machines like less hunger spend for crafting or portable chester like machines.

Hey beard can you make a video explaining how console is currently unplayable after the recent update, theres a bug that makes it that no matter what you do if you or a friend join a world together you cannot access caves, it just says server not responding and then you have to rollback to get that person to be able to join again otherwise every time they try to join back theyll just be in an infinite loading screen. This bug is just awful legit can't even play the game the way it was suppose to be played

I think this is a good change, most people would use her to build auto farms, then swap off her. These bonuses go away if Winona Isn't in the world, so we may actually see people actually play Winona start to finish :D

Ok, so I know it's a while later, but I recently did some testing with Winona's machines, and there's some stuff I think you should cover as a sort of "Winona Rework Tidbits". 1) You only need 1 enlightened shard to get the recharge effect. anymore will not give any extra bonuses. This however allows you to combine 1 shard with a pure brilliance or 2. Doing so allows you to recharge the planar strike without consuming the pure brilliance, thus allowing unlimited Lunar planar strike farming. 2) The Shadow and Lunar planar strikes aren't exclusive to each catapult, and if you have both skills, as well as a catapult in range of both a Pure Horror generator, and a Pure Brilliance G.E.Merator, a catapult can actually fire fused projectiles, which work amazingly (Even if you can only fit around 2 per setup). 3) When transporting Gemerators, you can prep them at home base, and then unpack them. This also works for generators fuled with special fuel, like pure horror/briallance/enlightened shards. Helpful if you need to set a generator down, and you don't want to carry spare fuel. 4) Winbot is far better than Wobot, and you don't even need the auto-mat-a-chanic. As soon as you scan and craft Wobot. The reason Winbot is better is that it's seen as a gadget, and will Recharge itself. Just set it up near a generator at base, and it will charge itself on whatever generator you have it hooked up too. This makes it perfect for use in Base inventory management, Collecting from giant cropsfarms, collecting from bunnyman/pig/varg farms, and more. (unfortunately, it seems that it needs to be rendered to operate so you can't just use it to auto collect the meat from a voltgoat farm). 5) The Hotlight skill actually warms thermal stones, meaning if you're carying one on you in winter, and you have a spotlight at camp, you don't need to worry about placing the thermal near a fire or furnace, and can just keep your stone on you while at base. 6) Since the Portasol teleports things that are at your feet when you teleport, you can use this to relocate large amounts of single stack items and tools. Just set up a Teletransport station, and a generator, and go to where you dropped a bunch of things you want to transport, then use the portasol. saves you multiple trips when mass transport is needed. 7) Winona's Shadow Planar Strike is very useful agains bosses that move around , and have minions, so the Shadow Planar Strike could be very useful against the twins of terror, and Bee Queen. 8) Now a downside. While in sleep mode, catapults won't aggro onto things that are chasing you unless you arm them. This is a bit less convinent in early game, but not really that good late game. if you have cataputs powered by enlightened shards, you may be better off respecing with the idol to change out the skill. 9) You can't remove the gems once placed, and can only recover them via hammering the G.E.Merator. These are just things I tested myself. Also, I think Winona's Rework did a pretty good job at renforcing what she's meant to do. Even before her rework, she always fealt like a utility character for setting up mob farms, easy base light, and tape being used cor repairing cloths and boats. Now that utility still works for mobs, but better since it no longer damages walls. There's more utility however, since heatlamp is actually really good for winter, quick transport back to base, and for cleaning the base up with Winbot. Also with the lunar strike catapults being useful for farming materials. Maybe even better than woodie or even Maxwell in the end game. She feels more like a "Base improvement" character than ever before.

I really like this skill tree I like wurt better as a character and I'm a wirt main but I think that Winona skill tree is better because she needed one alot more than wurt who was a good character before the skill tree

This was the rework I was most excited for and waiting on for literal years as I have the most fun playing as the Engineer/Crafting/Builder archetype in games. Then they literally just double down on catapults. I think it's finally time to uninstall the game.

@@TheBeard777 Haven’t played in a couple years and planning on doing a new volley of DST with some friends. I’m definitely not overly impressed with the updates that’ve come out since I last played but I was wondering what’s disappointed you about it and what you’d wish they’d implement. If you don’t have time to respond I understand though. P.S. you think they’ll ever add in wheeler? I’m still hoping they do since I love her design and mechanics but I doubt they will since they have both a ranged character and a character that can dodge
