Why is your Sabbath on SUNday rather than Saturday (the real biblical Sabbath)? In 321 A.D. Constantine (emperor of Rome) decreed: “On the venerable day of the Sun let the magistrates and people residing in cities rest, and let all workshops be closed”. Commandment eight from the commandments tells you: ”Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” Exodus 20:8 KJV This verse clearly tells you to remember which day it is, and to keep it holy. But Constantine changed which day it was and his church changed the wording on their version of the ten commandments to: “Remember to keep holy the LORD'S Day.”Removing remember the Sabbath day (i.e. which day it was). The Eucharist once transubstantiated into Jesus is then placed into a “Monstrance” that looks like a sunburst (i.e. representing the sun). The pagan religions mentioned are forms of sun worship, worshipping their sun gods.Jesus’ the Christians are worshipping is not the real historical Jesus but just a Roman way of worshipping their sun gods. This is a rare video - you get fairly close to what Catholics actually believe, with only a few minor mistakes. Thank you for doing everything you could to get it right! It's so nice to see a good faith effort for once. 1. We don't believe we are saved by works, but that works are a necessary part of salvation, since faith without works is dead, among other verses. 2. We have 7 more books than Protestants, not 14, books that were used by Jesus in His day. 3. We believe in three authorities: written tradition (the Bible), oral tradition (the teachings of the Church such as interpretation), and the Magisterium (the Church itself). 4. We absolutely do not put Mary on the same level as Jesus. She is less than the smallest mote of dust beneath God's feet. However, she is the Mother of God, and deserves our respect for her role in salvation history. All generations will call her blessed, after all. 5. You do not have to say Hail Marys in order to be forgiven. The penance assigned after confession is not fixed nor is it necessary. Jesus forgives us either way. However, doing penance is a part of repentance, and benefits us. 6. The Bible never once says the Eucharist is a "symbol" of Jesus's body. Jesus repeats that it is His body and blood six times without backing down. Keep putting out such great content. It's awesome to engage with faithful Protestants.
@0NoOne1nParticular2 жыл бұрын
You say you appreciate his content and how close it is, then proceed to "correct" everything he said? LOL “Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To you we cry, the children of Eve; to you we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this land of exile. Turn, then, most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us; lead us home at last.” A) How is the above not a direct prayer/petition to Mary? That is not you, asking her, to pray for you. That is you praying to her. B) How is calling Mary your "hope", "sweetness", "life", & "holy" not worship? It's pretty clear that Catholics not only pray directly to Mary (and don't just ask her for intercession as they claim) but also worship her.
@bigfootapologetics2 жыл бұрын
@@0NoOne1nParticular A.) It's an eloquent, poetic way of asking for her to lead us to Christ, which is the very essence of intercessory prayer. Our home is in heaven with Jesus. The Hail, Holy Queen prayer is traditionally a part of the rosary, in which we ask Mary to pray for us now and at the hour of our death that we may make our way to the fruit of her womb, Jesus. B.) If you called one of your kids your hope, sweetness, and your life, would that be worshiping him or her? Of course not. It's a way to express the magnitude of your appreciation and love. So referring to the mother of Jesus that way is not worship, unless of course you believe she is divine. And we don't believe she is divine. Otherwise, we'd tell you! We'd call her our goddess. We'd call her our savior. We wouldn't deny our worship of her, because that's not what someone who worships a deity does. You can find plenty of official Catholic doctrine informing us that Mary is not to be worshiped, and that worshiping anyone other than God is a mortal sin, but you won't find a single document in our 2,000-year history saying that we should worship Mary. Except of course, writings from groups like the Collyridians, who were excommunicated for that very reason. And yes, we call Mary holy for the same reason we call the Bible holy: because in Koine Greek, the word is either attributed to something that inspires religious awe or something that has God's seal upon it, and surely, the woman that bore Jesus Christ incarnate was marked by God!

@@0NoOne1nParticular Hey, if you want to just ignore everything I said, be sarcastic, and put words in my mouth in favor of the conclusion you already had before replying to me in the first place, you could've just saved us both time and not bothered to comment in the first place. I understand that it's confusing to understand the distinction between affectionate words and worship, given that the Protestant worldview did away with the classical understanding of what worship meant to Christians for all of history in the 16th century. Fulton Sheen once said: “There are not one hundred people in the United States who hate The Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they wrongly perceive the Catholic Church to be.” Sadly, in your case, you don't have the excuse of ignorance here; as I've told you and every Catholic and Orthodox has maintained for 2,000 years, none of us see Mary as divine or an object of our worship. So while you're welcome to accuse us of something we don't do (to the point where we have excommunicated the people who do it) and explicitly tell you we don't do, just remember that false witness is a serious sin. All I can do here is wish you the best and hope God leads you to being more open-minded and charitable in the future.

Is the Catholic Church Jesus’ original church? The quotes provided below are historical facts in reference to our early church which existed prior to Romes adoption of Christianity in 313 A.D. and it’s a glimpse of what’s found within its pages. Church: * "Let no man do anything connected with the Church without the bishop. Let that be deemed a proper Eucharist, which is [administered] either by the bishop, or by one to whom he has entrusted it. Wherever the bishop shall appear, there let the multitude [of the people] also be; even as, wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church.” [St. Ignatius of Antioch - Letter to the Smyrneans 8 (c. A.D. 110)] Bishop, Priest & Deacon: * “Since, then, I have had the privilege of seeing you, through Damas your most worthy bishop, and through your worthy presbyters Bassus and Apollonius, and through my fellow-servant the deacon Sotio, whose friendship may I ever enjoy, because he is subject to the bishop as to the grace of God, and to the presbytery as to the law of Jesus Christ [St. Ignatius of Antioch- Letter to the Magnesians 2 (c. A.D. 110)]. Eucharist: * “Take note of those who hold heterodox opinions on the grace of Jesus Christ, which have come to us, and see how contrary their opinions are to the mind of God... They abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer because they do not confess that the Eucharist is the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ, Ash that suffered for our sins and that the Father, in his goodness, raised up again. They who deny the gift of God are perishing in their disputes.” [St. Ignatius of Antioch - Letter to the Smyrnaeans 6-7 (c. A.D. 110)]. Scripture: * “[W]hoever perverts the sayings of the Lord for his own desires, and says that there is neither resurrection nor judgment, is the firstborn of Satan. Let us leave the foolishness and the false teaching of the crowd and turn back to the word that was delivered to us in the beginning.” [St. Polycrap of Smyrna - Letter to the Philippians 7 (c. A.D. 135)]. Sunday: * “But Sunday is the day on which we all hold our common assembly, because it is the first day on which God, having wrought a change in the darkness and matter, made the world; and Jesus Christ our Savior on the same day rose from the dead.” [St. Justin Martyr - First Apology 67 (c. A.D. 151)]. Actions/Works: * “We have learned from the prophets, and we believe it is true, that punishments, and chastisements, and good rewards, are rendered according to the merit of each man's actions. If it is not so, then all things happen by fate, and nothing is in our own power. If it is fated that this man be good, and this other evil, the former is not meritorious nor the latter blameworthy [St. Justin Martyr - First Apology 43 (c. A.D. 151)]. Apostolic Succession: * “It is within the power of all, in every church, who may wish to see the truth, to contemplate clearly the Tradition of the apostles manifested throughout the whole world; and we are in a position to reckon up those who were instituted bishops in the churches by the apostles, and [to demonstrate] the succession of these men to our own times; those who neither taught nor knew anything these [heretics] rave about.” [St. Irenaeus of Lyons - Against Heresies 3:3:1 (c. A.D. 189)] Baptism: * “The children shall be baptized first. All the children who can answer for themselves, let them answer. If there are any children who cannot answer for themselves, let their parents answer for them, or someone else from their family.” [St. Hippolytus of Rome - Apostolic Tradition 21 (c. A.D. 215)]. Confession: * “After this, one of the bishops present, at the request of all, laying his hand on him who is ordained bishop, shall pray this way: O God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. pour forth the power that is from you, of "the princely Spirit' that you delivered to your beloved Child, Jesus Christ, and that he bestowed on your holy apostles, who established the Church that hallows you everywhere, for the endless glory and praise of your name. Father, "who knows the hearts [of all]” grant this servant, who you have chosen for the episcopate, to feed your holy flock and serve as your high priest blamelessly night and day, and unceasingly turn away wrath from your face and offer to you the gifts of the holy Church. And that by the high priestly Spirit he may have authority "to forgive sins" according to your command.” [St. Hippolytus of Rome - Apostolic Tradition 2-3 (c. A.D. 215)]. Confirmation: * “The bishop will then lay his hand upon them, invoking, "Lord God, you who have made these worthy of the removal of sins through the bath of regeneration, make them worthy to be filled with your Holy Spirit, grant to them your grace, that they might serve you according to your will, for to you is the glory, Father and Son with the Holy Spirit, in the holy Church, now and throughout the ages of the ages. Amen." After this he pours the oil into his hand, and laying his hand on each of their heads, says, "I anoint you with holy oil in God the Father Almighty, and Christ Jesus, and the Holy Spirit." Then, after sealing each of them on the forehead, he shall give them the kiss of peace and say, "The Lord be with you." And the one who has been baptized shall say, "And with your spirit." So shall he do to each one [St. Hippolytus of Rome - Apostolic Tradition 21-22 (c. A.D. 215). Peter’s Authority: * “The Lord says to Peter: "I say to you,' he says, “that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell will not overcome it. And to you I will give the keys of the kingdom of heaven. [Mt 16:18-19]. On him he builds the Church, and commands him to feed the sheep [Jn 21:17], and although he assigns a like power to all the apostles, yet he founded a single chair [cathedra], and he established by his own authority a source and an intrinsic reason for that unity. Indeed the others were also what Peter was [apostles], but a primacy is given to Peter, by which it is made clear that there is one Church and one chair.... If someone does not hold fast to this unity of Peter, can he think that he holds the faith? If he deserts the chair of Peter upon whom the Church was built, can he be confident that he is in the Church?.” [St. Cyprian of Carthage - Unity of the Catholic Church 4; first edition (Treatise 1:4) (A.D. 251)]. These few topics (but a glimpse) were not only discussed but settled BEFORE Rome adopted Christianity (The Catholic Church) and eventually became The Roman Catholic Church as it also adopted its name after 313 A.D. Is the Catholic Church Jesus’ original church? Yes! Does this excuse all its mistakes and sins from the record? Of course not! As Christians, we are called to hold the church accountable, not leave it and let evil flourish within it. This refusal of accountability within every Christian has led to over 40,000 diferente Christian churches and the ignorance which has flourished from it. “This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.” Ephesians 4:13-15 We are called by God to unite! What better church to do it under than the one he started.

I, as a practicing Catholic, found much misinformation about Catholics presented in this "Are Catholics Considered Christians and What are the Differences in Beliefs?" video by Allen Parr. (1:58) #1. Our View on How a Person Gets to Heaven (Protestants say "Faith alone". Catholics practice "Faith and Works"). Allen Parr incorrectly states that those "works" are the Catholic seven sacraments (Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Communion, Confession, Marriage, Holy Orders, and the Annointing of the Sick) that Catholics must do in addition to having Faith in order to get to Heaven. Catholics believe that in addition to having Faith you must put that Faith into action, hence the "works". It's the difference between telling a hungry person that you have Faith that they will find food to eat (Protestant) verses telling a hungry person that you have Faith that they will find food to eat and then giving them food to eat (Catholic). (2:53) #2. Our Views on the Authority of the Bible (Protestants say their 66-book Bible is the final authority on Faith and Practice. Catholics use both the Bible and the Catholic tradition teachings). Allen Parr is correct that when Catholics have disagreements on how to interpret the Bible it is the Pope who has the final and authoritative word. Without the Pope acting as a referee of sorts with the final say then Catholics would have multiple Catholic sub-groups each with their own interpretation of the Bible, which is what Protestantism is. Also, Allen Par incorrectly states that the Catholic Bible has 14 "extra" books over the Protestant Bible. It was the Catholic church that compiled the Bible and when Martin Luther protested away from the Catholic church he removed books from the Bible (and he wanted to remove more books, such as Revelation). (4:16) #3. Our View on How a Person Should Approach God (Protestants say they don't have to go through anyone to get through God. Catholics must confess sins to a priest who then passes it to God and then Catholics must pray to Mary to elevate her to the same level as Jesus, which is wrong because Mary was a sinful woman who happened to be chosen to be the mother of Jesus). Allen Par's understanding of Catholicism is wrong here. When Catholics confess sins to a Catholic priest the priest is representing the Catholic church and the confession goes directly to God. The priest's role during confessions is to hear the confession, offer counseling, and then to absolve the confessed sins as a representative of the Catholic church. Allen Par incorrectly states that Catholics pray to Mary to elevate her to the same level as Jesus. Catholics ask Mary to "pray for us sinners now" the way you ask a friend to pray for you. Also, unlike what Allen Par states that Mary was a sinful woman, Catholics believe that Mary was born free from original sin through the Immaculate Conception. (6:15) #4. Our View on Life After Death - Purgatory (Protestants don't believe in Purgatory. Catholics believe in Purgatory). Allen Par is correct that Catholics believe that some people must first go through Purgatory to be purged of sins before going to heaven or to the presence of God. Purgatory only applies to people who die in God's grace and friendship but are still imperfectly purified (for example, the person was a practicing Catholic who died before going to confession). Purgatory does not apply to evil people who are destined for Hell. (6:36) #5. Prayers for the Dead (Catholics pray for the dead in hopes that the prayers will help boost a dead person to be with God who otherwise wouldn't be able to). Allen Par, praying for the dead is something both Catholics and non-Catholics do. (6:55) #6. Prayers to the Dead (Catholics don't pray only to Jesus, they also pray to Mary and the Saints). Allen Par is correct. When Catholics pray to Mary and to the Saints, it is not to worship Mary and the Saints or to elevate them on the same level as Jesus, it's to ask Mary and the Saints to pray for them the same way you ask a friend or a Protestant pastor to pray for you or to say a prayer for a family member. (7:06) #7. Transubstantiation (When Catholics take communion by eating the bread and drinking they wine, they believe the bread and wine transforms into Jesus' actual body and blood). Allen Par states that for Protestants the eating of bread and drinking of wine during communion is consuming Jesus' body and blood symbolically, while Catholics believe they are consuming Jesus' actual body and blood. Allen Par is correct about what Catholics believe about Transubstantiation. He then displays the following scripture quote taken from John 6:56 (New Living Translation Bible) "Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him." The quoted scripture line doesn't say "Anyone who SYMBOLICALLY eats my flesh and drinks my blood..." (7:44) Allen Par restates the original question "Are Catholics Christians?" and then says that it's not his job, or anyone else's job, to say who is a Christian or not. Because of this I'll answer the the question as follows: All Catholics are Christians. Not all Christians are Catholics.

Bridget Drummond Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the father except through me. The church is not the way. Jesus is the way. The Apostle Paul even stated that wolves will come into the church and pervert the truth. That’s exactly what took place with the beginning of Catholic doctrines. Let me ask you this. If you know the truth above everyone else do you still practice sin? Do you still lie, and steal, and slander, and take Gods name in vain, lust or look at porn, or get drunk, do you ever hate or dishonor your parents, do you do drugs? Do you commit sexual immorality of any kind? If you still practice sin habitually then can you say you walk with God and know God truly. It says in 1 John that if a man claims to know God but does not obey his commandments then he is a liar and the truth is not in him, meaning Jesus. Because Jesus is the truth. Think about that and then get back to me. Jesus said you will know them by their fruit. It’s real easy to practice religion but never actually get born again. This is why Jesus said it is not those that have said Lord Lord that will enter the kingdom of heaven but only those that do the will of my father. Jesus said he will say to those depart from me you who practice iniquity for I never knew you. Think about that and get back to me. There are a lot of professing Christians that don’t know God at all just like the Jews that crucified Jesus did not know God at all even though they were children of Abraham by heritage.

The one thing he said wrong is the amount of books in the Catholic Bible. It's not 14 more than the 66 books he stated in the video. It's 73 books. Even the KJB started out with the 73 books till Martin Luther took them out in the 1600's. There's a lot of man made teachings in the Catholic faith that I struggle with and till this day I'm still learning about. I feel we just don't learn enough of our faith if we just go to church on Sundays. And yes you could potentially not be right with God. Robert Reinhart Jesus said the blind follow the blind. The Bible says we have an anointing from the Holy One and we do not need anyone to teach us. That is because when a man gets born again Jesus comes to live inside of a persons heart. When you have Jesus you don’t need anyone to teach you. I don’t need anyone to teach me at all. Jesus said my sheep hear my voice and they will not follow another. The reason why you struggle and don’t know is because you have never acknowledged your sin before God. You are trying to find God and God is actually trying to find you. It’s not about being good or following a set of rules. It’s about turning away from your sin and following Jesus. Not following rules. Following Jesus. You have to acknowledge your sin first though. If you are honest you will admit that you practice certain sins. The Bible says that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God. The Bible says if someone is practicing sin then the truth of God is not in them. The Bible says that person is a liar. When the Holy Spirit lives in someone they cannot continue in sin. The Bible says it is impossible for the man that is born again to continue in sin. You know as well as I do that you are practicing certain sins. You just have to be honest about those sins and repent of them. I am not talking about confessing them to a priest or saying things like everybody sins. No everybody doesn’t sin. If a man be born again he cannot continue in sin. It doesn’t mean that man will never sin again. It means if the Holy Spirit lives in you then the Holy Spirit is leading your life and the decisions you make. You don’t need to learn anymore. Jesus said they are forever seeking but never perceiving and forever hearing but never understanding. You have to ask Jesus to be the Lord of your life and repent of your sins and then commit to follow him with all your heart. You have to admit you are a sinner though first. I don’t mean say yes I am a sinner because everyone sins. I am talking about examining your own life and the sins you have committed and acknowledging those sins before God right where you are. God can hear you right where you are. You don’t have to go to church to find God. God is everywhere and he hears the cry of your heart right where you are. If you try to hang on to self righteousness and try to keep searching for the right rules and teachings to follow then you will never find truth. Jesus is the truth. Jesus is the way and Jesus is the life. You don’t need a religion. You need to find Jesus.

Just asking. Not saying you're no good or don't believe in God. But if you believe Jesus is the only way to heaven, why are you in a church that is very insistent, persistent, in supposed prayers for various saints, especially Mary, to in turn pray to God?? I prefer to go directly to the source like our only Christ taught. I don't believe in Catholicism anymore whatsoever. Yet, I really can't stand this crap, this BS of super divided Christianity.. Such as when various believers of very different Jesus Christ believing churches, keep saying so and so ain't Christian. When instead of teaching love like we ought to, so called Christians are teaching hate. Bashing each other's beliefs and judging each other's character with no mercy.. Instead of teaching love one another and do good to those that do you wrong. Love your enemy. What better are you when you love only those that love you? And if you salute your kin only, what do you more than others? THAT'S what Jesus taught. Hence, as much as I strongly dislike my old Roman catholic faith, I can't in good conscience say all Catholics are not Christian. I think many have not been Christian or acted like a Christian should. I know others have indeed behaved like a Christian ought to. I'm beyond positive Jesus and God forbids such a notion that a particular faith is not Christian because of how different their faith is compared to others. I ain't God and sure don't know enough about every single person of a faith to say NO they all aren't Christian at all. ONLY GOD decides and only He can judge. Fear no man but God. So don't be afraid of what very flawed man, meaning all of us, say about you being Christian or not.

@Tony McGurk "kay do we need Mary to get to Jesus ? No you can go straight to Jesus" That's the same analogy as asking your friends and family to pray for you, when you can just go straight to Him. And no, we don't necessarily need Mary to get to Jesus, but she can immensely help us to get closer to Him. Of course if you're really against about it, aren't open and not fully understand why Catholics (and Orthodox, as well as others) ask for their intercession, then you would definitely accuse us of misconceptions. At that point, it's better if we stay silent until you actually and genuinely ask a practicing Catholic why we do such things. Other than that, God Bless. I hope my words didn't sound mean to you, but sometimes people need to say what they have to say, especially for correcting others.

As a Catholic, I can say that there are a number of incorrect assumptions in here. For example, while we do have the hail Mary, or prayers referencing other saints, to day that Catholics believe that Mary or any other saint is at the same level as Jesus is incorrect. These are prayers for there intercession on our behalf. " Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death" is very different from "forgive us our sins". Saints are examples of what it means to live an exemplary life and now live eternally with Jesus, so we all for their guidance, but Jesus alone is our savior and salvation. There are a number of things that the initial statement was fact, but then the follow up assumption was not quite right. It's an interesting conversation that it would be nice to see a priest on this channel having a dialogue on the differences and similarities, and they can ask each other questions, etc

Yamahall personal salvation, there is another divergence between the way of seeing the things of many evangelical groups and the doctrine. Catholic For them it’s enough to just have faith in Christ; for us, faith in Christ is not enough to be saved. A life is needed in conformity with the teaching of Christ (Lk 6,46). (Mt 7, 21). Actually, believing Christ means accepting his message and living it, without adding or removing anything. It is not enough to say: «I believe in Christ», to be saved. It is necessary to know your will and accept it as it is. How is it possible that many think to save themselves, without accepting this command of Jesus? In effect, updating the Lord's Supper is an order. (Lc 22,19). same as regards the forgiveness of sins. Is it possible for one to forgive sins? "they repeat. Well, ask Jesus. He who created heaven and earth has the power to commission men to forgive sins in his name? This means to truly believe in Christ: accept ALL his message and try to live it. Otherwise it is an empty faith, which does not lead to salvation. Say: "I believe in Christ and already" is a mistake, a vain illusion, which does not lead to salvation. We must accept and obey Christ, to be saved. You do not have to choose one or the other teaching, according to your own taste, but you have to accept everything Jesus says. This is to believe in Christ.

On a Catholic Christian Note: I find this post misrepresentative of us. I felt that its just very judgemental. I am sorry. Please if you want to explain Catholic faith from your own view, you might as well research what we actually believe. Use Catechism of the Catholic Church. 1) We believe that Faith is consisted of 3 Pillars (Word of God, Sacred Tradition, Church Magisterium (Authority)). When we say FAITH, what we mean is 3 Things: Believing, Trusting, Doing. 2) We also believe that we can go to God directly, but he intended that through the Apostles (and their successors) we may be healed in our wounds with the Church. You see, we see sins as not contained within the person, it affects everyone especially the Church. 3) Mary IS NEVER elevated to the same level as God. If you just take time an listen to what the words say, it came from the mouth of Angel Gabriel and St. Elizabeth through the Power of the Holy Spirit. Luke 1:28, Luke 1:42, and Jame 5:16. 4) Purgatory IS NOT forgiveness of sins. It is the remission of the punishment of sins already forgiven. What we mean by punishments are the wounds that we earn by them that makes us imperfect. We believe that we are cleansed and made perfect through the sacrifice and blood of Christ on the cross; we call this state of cleansing “Purgatory”. We could recall 1 Corinthians 3:15 that people could be saved but though they went through fire. 5) The Catholic Church together with the Orthodox Church compiled the Bible (the oldest complete of which are Codex Vaticanus and Codex Sinaiticus. I pray that you may be forgiven for your transgression on us. I personally forgiven you. May the Most Blessed Mary guide you towards her Son, Our Lord, God, and Savior, Jesus Christ. As a student of church history, theology and practicing Lutheran, I feel like there's some pretty inaccurate info in here, including the idea that there was one church until Martin Luther and John Calvin came along (there was an entire period called the Great Schism in the 11th Century - 500 years before the Protestant Reformation), and the idea that the 66 books of the Bible are the ONLY divinely inspired books (those texts - manyof which the authorship is presumed but unknown). The Council of Nicea was - quite literally - called by Emperor Constantine as an editorial board to elect by debate which books would be included in canon in order to coalesce HUNDREDS of competing ecumenical doctrines into a single religion common throughout the Roman Empire. The apocrypha are not considered holy texts, per se, but they are used to help interpret the canonical books. The best evidence that the Bible is subject to interpretation is the fact that even today we have any number of English translations - from the KJV to the NIV, and many others. Not to mention Vatican II's official break with any kind of "salvation by works" theology. The modern Roman Catholic Church has accepted salvation by grace, but still holds good works as the duty of every Catholic. As a mainstream Protestant, the thing I think is most important in whether we can say somebody shares our Christian beliefs is (i) belief in the trinitarian nature of God, (ii) following therefrom, belief in the divinity of Jesus Christ, (iii) belief in salvation through grace/faith. Aftsr thise three things, it's all cupcakes and we're really just arguing over whether chocolate or rainbow sprinkles are better. Which is - quite frankly - a silly argument to have. I feel as at home spiritually in a Catholoc service or a Baptist service as I do in my home church because - ultimately - those three things are the only things that are important in this debate. You're highlighting differences in religion, while the most important thing is a shared faith. Whether a person believes in transubstantiation or participates in the Eucharist at all is a matter of religion alone; which has its roots in Greek meaning an action. Those are just differences in EXPRESSIONS of faith; not in the faith itself.

Catholics do not call or consider the books apocryphal because they aren't. They are rightly called deutoricanical. Apoc in the Greek is hidden or unknown which the Deutoricanical books are not. Those books were in the Protestant KJV1611. Protestants should figure out when and why they were taken out. I'm not Catholic and can tell you that.

Are you sure? Given the dating of The Codex Vaticanus, we can see that the Bible was already completed and thus, closed canon. The Council of Nicaea happened after, in which the debate was over correct doctrine based on the Bible.

Cmon now, I doubt he picked her name out of a hat or something lol), but she does not interfere with the holy trinity in any way? Also, about believing in the traditions of the church and the pope, the traditions come from the Bible? The Vatican is the institutionalization of the religion, meaning they simply make it uniform. If you go a Catholic Church in one state, you’ll hear the same thing in another one from another state, unlike in Protestant churches. The interpretations of the Bible can change quite a lot among pastors. The thing about “praying for the dead” sounded weird, ngl. Saints are notable people who lead good lives and did good, to the point of doing miracles, which is something a lot of regular televangelists claim to do? When we “praise” them, it’s about wanting to be like them, being inspired by them (like Mary). They’re not idols. Some people can take it to extremes, but that’s incorrect. And the wine and bread thing... Idk about that one, but I’ve always seen it as symbols as well?
@africankaleab3603 жыл бұрын
I agree with what your saying. We should give honor to the Saints and Mary. And I do encounter some people who have a problem with respecting people. But we shouldn't bow down to them and have pictures of them when that goes against the Second Commandment. And that's coming from an Orthodox who is reborn.

I was with you at the beginning and also appreciated that you appeared to put the facts out there and allow people to see the differences. My issue is that you had to use multiple "versions" of the Bible to cite solitary versus to "prove" your point but didn't do the same for the Catholic teaching. I suspect if you also used the passages that Catholics use for there teaching would be detrimental to your agenda. It would have been more difficult to completely miss the mark on Catholic teaching. I get it.. There's no way to share the true teaching of Catholicism and push your message. I'm not trying to argue or convert anyone. Just challenge people to learn the true reason of other people's faith before comparing it anything else. Looking for a level playing field in analysis, that's all. I will answer the question you didn't. To be a Christian is to follow Christ. So if Christ and the Trinity is the one true God, then you are a Christian. Let's not stoke division.

Cyril, bishop at Jerusalem, gives a list of all New Testament books except Revelation. 270. I’m Catholic and I’ve never believed that you had to do the 7 steps to get to heaven. It’s God’s decision. I believe ppl have to have a relationship with God, try to sin less, and repent sins to get to heaven, no matter which religion they are. My church also doesn’t believe that only confession will give you forgiveness, it’s just a way to confess your sins to God. But you can also pray to God for forgiveness. Also, about the bread and blood... in my experience whenever I go up to receive communion, I feel the presence of Christ. It’s a warm, loving, amazing feeling that makes ppl cry tears of joy. I’ve seen ppl faint in my church, multiple times from being blessed while the Eucharist was exposed. Also, there was a case in Italy where the Eucharist literally turned into real flesh and blood and spelt over the altar in front of everyone attending that mass. It was documented a miracle. I’m not saying my religion is right, yours is wrong. I believe if you’re a believer and you love God, then that’s the way ❤️. I’m just saying my experiences within my church. God bless everyone.

- When every protestant object Catholic, they always attack Mary. How can we even call ourselves Christian if we do not give respect to the mother of Christ? Even angel Gabriel said to Mary “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.” How can we even say that we are brothers of Jesus if we do not know His own mother? Isn’t it ironic? Have we ever stop and think that maybe everytime we talk or feel bad about Mary, it will hurt Jesus the most? - All protestants only based their faith in the bible. What’s the version of your bible? Who revised that bible? When was it revised? What language? What and who is the source? Etc??? Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of [His] disciples that are not written in this book. But these are written that you may [come to] believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name. (John 20:30-31) There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written. (John 21:25) Jesus’ apostles didn’t have any bible to start with and so were all their disciples, yet they believed. They also gave respect to the mother of Jesus, Mary, whom they truly know by heart. Jesus suffered and died to save us. Jesus gave His LIFE, not a book! “To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. Excellent summary, thank you! Elizabeth also declared to Mary, "Blessed are you among women." The first half of the Hail Mary is taken word for word from Scripture. The second half cannot be accepted by Protestants because they do not accept the book of Maccabees accepted into the Christian Bible in the 300s AD that directs the living to pray and intercede to the dead.

@Asaph Vapor Wow! The gospel of today, 27 February, is very nice. The Holy Gospel according to Saint Mark John said to Jesus, "Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your name, and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us." Jesus replied, "Do not prevent him. There is no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can at the same time speak ill of me. For whoever is not against us is for us." - Mark 9:38-40 Protestants always says Catholics are not Christians even though all the doctrines of the Catholic Church historically leads and follow Jesus Christ. Protestants always criticise Catholics and worst of all, find verses in The Holy bible to criticise, using own God’s words to criticise someone. If you really contemplate and go deeper on this Gospel, you can clearly see that instead of criticising or condemning, why not understand and love? “For whoever is not against us is for us.” And as I mentioned, not all Jesus teachings are found in the bible, (John 21:25), so that doesn’t mean that you can speak bad about Mary, the Mother of God, or The Saints, or the Catholics. We should love one another as Jesus taught us. Instead of criticising, why not truly understand, why not truly love and why not truly search for the TRUTH? Hope you’ll ask yourself or your church’s teachings every time you speak ill of Catholic Church, the Saints and especially Mary, Am I really following the way of Christ? Or just following others teachings who fell on their own pride?

Again, as I mentioned. “To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible.” - St. Thomas Aquinas

The time we have spent fighting over which branch of christianity is right, has cost us too much time. We have God’s word and God’s word is truth, why don’t we lean on the scripture and come together. Instead of discussing, if this branch is the truth, we could actually do God’s work. (1) The video's FIRST mistake is that there were individual congregational churches growing for 300 years BEFORE the Roman Catholic church was even started. --------------------- (2) The video's second mistake is the preacher CLAIMS that evangelicals believe that you are saved by grace alone - even implying that repentance is the RESULT of your regeneration. However the PROBLEM with that is even this preacher teaches (as most evangelicals do) that man can decide to "accept" Christ and become saved. Of course the decision to "accept" is clearly a "works gospel" and the doctrine of "accepting Christ" is not found in ANY Scripture (if you disagree send chapter and verse). -------------------------- (3) The preacher states that it is NOT the saint's job to decide who is a christian or not. That is heresy. The church consists of BOTH saved "wheat" sown by God and unsaved "tares" sown by Satan [Mat 13] The Bible COMMANDS the saints to (a) identify the "tares" by their "fruit" of bad behavior or false doctrines and (b) rebuke these people (in case they are just an ignorant "babe" in Christ and not a tare) and then (c) EXPEL all those who refuse to repent. So while this preacher says that it's NOT our duty to decide who is a REAL Christian and who is an unsaved tare of false teacher... the Bible say the OPPOSITE and it COMMANDS us to do exactly what the preacher pretends we cannot. ----------------------------- (4) It was always a MAJOR PART of the Bible that unsaved "tares" would infiltrate the church of saved "wheat" and the "leaven" of their false doctrines would corrupt the church - and eventually the entire Christian "Kingdom". In fact, just read Revelation chapter 2 & 3 to see the extent of this corruption before the end of 100AD... two hundred years BEFORE the Roman Catholic church was even started. The fact that today MOST evangelical churches (like this video) teach some form of false "works gospel" where people can become saved by (a) saying a sinner's prayer or (b) by making an alter call or by (c) repenting of your sins or (d) by "accepting" Christ or by (e) being baptized in water or (f) etc, etc, ---------------------------------- (5) So... yes the Catholic church is a "Christian" church, it is just a heretical christian church. Just like evangelical churches are all "Christian" churches but MOST are heretical Christian churches. ------------------------------------- All this is the FULFILLMENT of the Gospel that unsaved "tares" would infiltrate the church (being sown by Satan) is shown in the fact that MOST of the evangelical churches are teaching a gospel that was known as Semi-Pelagianism (and declared heresy by the early church) and later known as Arminianism (declared heresy by most Reformers) ------------------------------------ However, there are TWO important facts to consider: (a) since Pentecost there have always been real saints (wheat/sheep) who have preached the True Gospel and followed God's command to EXPEL unsaved "tares" from their churches - but now, at the end, there are few real saints (saved wheat/sheep) left on the earth. (b) there is a generation of Last Saints... the ones who never die and are "changed" (at the resurrection) in the "twinkling of an eye. AND these Last Saints preach Biblical mysteries which had remaine "closed-up" and "sealed" since Daniel's time [Dan 12::4 and 12:8-10] AND these Last Saints "shall see ALL these things", meaning the fulfillment of ALL Great Tribulation prophecies [Mat 24:15 and 24:33] AND these Last Saints "prophesy again" about these mysteries as the Seventh Trumpet "begins to sound" [Rev 10:7-11] --------------------------------------- You can see some of the mysteries taught by the Last Saints at: www.5thKingdomofHeaven.com ------------------------------------------

He explicitly and emphatically said multiple times "this is my body, this is my blood." This is where protestants just are ignorant. Well Jesus says that when baptized people have a washing/renewing of the spirit that is not observable or provable by science either. Does this mean Jesus lied? If Jesus Christ is divine and has the power to perform miracles that are unobservable and provable by the human eye or science, then has the power to accomplish what he says he can. You cannot isolate different aspects and say well Jesus can do this when it pertains to Baptism, but cant do the same thing when it comes to the real presence of himself in the eucharist. Its blatant intellectual dishonestly and incoherent and inerrant reasoning.

@@seanwhitaker484 I will not continue to argue the Eucharist with you. However, you need to look at all scriptures in context of the culture of the time. Also -- you stated that Jesus never said "Do this a symbol...." Well, consider that He spoke at many times in parables. When asked, this is what He said........... Matthew 13:10-16 10 And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?” 11 He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. 12 For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 13 Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. 14 And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: ‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not perceive; 15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.’ 16 But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear; 17 for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it. Yes, I know that the Last Supper is not a parable. But consider, just for a moment, why Jesus may not have said, "Hey, this is a symbol"
@thesaltycatholic3185 жыл бұрын
I'm not trying to be a basher, my friend, but there were some flaws in your representation of both sides concerning Communion. The Bible doesn't state that the bread and wine Christ gave for the Last Supper were symbols and meant to be for that of his body and blood. As many Catholics are avid to point out, he states that "this IS my body" and "this IS my blood". Again, this is still a topic under debate amongst all denominations, including Protestants alone. Also, the mention of Catholics having to go through priests is not necessarily true. While Catholics do hold a confession with a priest as their earthly advocate, the power isnt all in the priest saying "I absolve you of your sin." In fact, it's still as much about what's in the heart as well as what's in a Protestant's heart when they confess in private. Without true repentance, the confession is flawed and meaningless. All you have is a habitual sin that you confess over and over again. It doesn't matter how many Hail Mary's or Our Father's you can say, without the conviction of the Holy Spirit and the desire to change one's ways, there can be no relief.

1. Yes that is true. You cannot be lukewarm about your faith and must actively serve God in your life. 2. The Pope and the Cathechism are not on the same level as the Bible. The Bible overrides the Popes teachings in case of a corrupt Pope. For a comparison, the Bible is the supreme law of the Catholic Church as the Constitution is of the United States. And we only add 7 books, not 14. 3. Confession is not the only way to confess sins, there is also repentance, prayer (only for venial sins), and a few other ways. The priest is simply a "portal" to Jesus. He forgets (or tries to) about your sins immediatly after they are confessed and if he hasn't, he may never speak of your sins. Mary is not on the same level as Jesus, nor was she a sinful woman, as the Bible states she was without sin. She is venerated, but not worshipped. 4. This may be a disappointing one, but not everyone is ready to immediately see God. 5. Prayers for those in purgatory only help them if they accept it, and are not required to get to Heaven. 6. These prayers are simply messages to the Saints in honor of them or asking for them to pray for you. No, we do not pray to them in worship. 7. Is the bread and wine at Communion the actual Body and Blood of Jesus Christ? The answer is yes. It is not a symbol, nor does the scripture say that; you are indeed literally eating of Jesus' flesh and drinking of Jesus' blood. Edit: Allen's comment: Catholics do baptise babies as it is required to receive any of the other sacraments, but does not guarantee salvation nor prevent salvation from the unbaptised.

Hi. Great job you have done here. The Eucharist used to be and sometimes is still a doubt to me as it is odd to think of eating flesh and drinking blood. And thats why some of the followers out there has left after those words - "I say onto you if you would not be eating flesh nor drinking blood of Son of Men you can't be saved". This is confusing and so that happened - guys just gone. And actually - Martin Luther did and the main Luteran Church still keeps the tradition of Holy Eucharist. May God be with You. :)

This was in John 6, 48-58. There are some interesting dynamics in these teachings out here. First Jesus says that who believes in Him has the eternal life. But then it is starting - I am the Bread Father has sent, but also that the manna was not the real bread, so He denies the food itself as being lets say holy but also He emphasise the neccesity of real consumption of his body and blood. Maybe I am not that clear in my writings.. So we in the same time have to EAT and believe in what we really eat - when we believe in what we eat (such an odd and strange and unusual idea) we have eternal life. This argument He has there with Jews is fully soaked with conceptions. It Is so dynamic and deep I cant even breathe.. :)

One thing conveniently left out was that the reformation also occured WITHIN the catholic church at EXACTLY the same time that Luther reformed outside. The people reforming from within were puzzled as to why he could create his own church. Luther was also a man who embraced drunkeness and was known to be violently antisemetic (writing some of the worst peices of antisemetic literature in history which was cited by the third reich during the holocaust), he was also known to violently opress his followers who didn't agree with HIS interpretation of the bible despite his cause promoting self determination in interperating the scriptures. I grew up a protestant and became catholic and can honestly say that a lot of this was covered up and we were told that he was a very honourable man. Seeing as the catholic church has unbroken lines to Peter, I am much more confident in the legitimacy of the catholic churches foundation over that of the protestant church in which I have highlighted. The funny thing is too is that a lot of these mega churches are conducting themselves in very similar ways to that of the clergy to which Luther was protesting in that donations are seen as a form of penence, which subsecquently result in waelth for the church leaders who practice without the accountability which the catholic church has institutionalised. We catholics consider protestants our fellow chrisitans, but believe that 30,000 diferent denominations isn't conjusive to being one body in christ as opposed to the catholic/universal community. I'll close by saying that I feel closer to God now as a Roman Catholic than when I was baptist/pentacostal.

Good or bad, Luther made points that eventually became accepted by other people with critical thinking. It was not a serious institution whatsoever, but rather people wanting to know truth over dogma. From here, it makes sense many would keep the reformation going without neccesarily following Luther (like you said, he himself insulted those who interpreted things differently, which confirms that there were protestants who disagreed with some of his statements)

This is another example of the failure of American education. A pastor who studied theology and church history for years in college isn't even aware that the church split to two in 1054: the western (Roman) Catholic Church and the eastern (Greek) Orthodox Church. Prior to Luther's reforms the church was already not unified, contrary to what Allen is saying at 0:57. Also it is important to note that Luther himself was a Catholic priest and didn't support the idea of creating further division within the body of Christ. These are not mere details, rather important facts that aid the viewer in understanding the history of the Church.

Quick question, where does the bible 'clearly' state that the Eucharist is a symbol? I'll tell you, nowhere! Yet John 6:48 onwards clearly states it isn't. Jesus literally changes the greek word he uses for 'eat' from the human way to eat, which could be taken metaphorically, the first time he says it, to the word for how animals eat the second time he says we must eat his flesh. Also, Mary isn't Jesus, and isn't God, and we certainly don't put her on the same level. Yet, how do you know she was sinful, as you say she was? You cannot make that claim if you cannot give evidence of a sin of hers. We also believe in purgatory because it is described in the bible in 1 corinthians 3:11-15. As for justification through faith alone, just read the second chapter of James. Or just James 2:24 'You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.'

Dear Allen, Did u know that many evangelicals put the Mother of Jesus down as often as they can, thinking that by degrading her they are somehow building up Jesus. They say things like: "Mary is dead and can't help you", "Mary was just an incubator for Jesus", "Jesus put his mother down by calling her "Woman”, and "If Mary had refused Gabriel, then God would have just picked someone else". All of that kind of talk is crazy, but they do it because they think that Catholics worship Mary as a goddess, and by putting her down, they are showing Catholics that Jesus is #1. How many people would like it if you said - "I love you, but I really can't stand your mother!" And how many people regularly put down their own mother to reinforce the fact that their Father is #1? No one. This is nuts! Would anyone put down the great apostles Peter and Paul to reinforce the fact that Jesus is #1? No one. Remember, Jesus is true God and true man. And as a Jewish man, Jesus loves his mother more than anyone on earth. The Old Testament refers to Mary in its prophecies. The first prophecy referring to Mary is found in the very opening chapters of the Book of Genesis (3:15): "I will put enmities between thee and the woman, and thy seed and her seed; she shall crush thy head, and thou shalt lie in wait for her heel." Jesus called her "Woman" all of the time to let us all know that she is the new Eve whose yes to Angel Gabriel overcame Eve's yes to the serpent in the garden. Jesus' mother is not a goddess. In fact, the Catechism of the Catholic Church has never proclaimed Mary as a goddess. Even Catholics don't call Mary a goddess, yet many non-Catholics call her a goddess out of ignorance. As St. Paul warned: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked” (Galatians 6:7). Or, in this case, be not deceived; the mother of Jesus is not mocked. Mary is the daughter of God the Father, the bride of the Holy Spirit, and the mother of Jesus. That would make it almost blasphemous to put her down on every occasion. As Gabriel said, in a message from God, "Hail Mary!" Catholics agree wholeheartedly with Gabriel! St. Maximillian Kolbe says that the Holy Spirit dwells in Mary's soul in such an ineffable manner that it goes beyond and is deeper than the union achieved between the Holy Spirit and souls by sanctifying grace in Baptism. Since Mary conceived Christ by the Holy Spirit, any blasphemous attacks against her is considered a grave sin against her Divine Spouse, the Holy Spirit. Most of the time in the Bible, God chooses to do His work through a human, whether it's Moses, Jacob, Joseph of the Old Testament, or one of the Prophets like Isaiah or Elisha. It's no different with Mary. God allowed salvation in the person of Jesus Christ to enter into the world through Mary, even though he could have just appeared all on his own. In like manner, it shows great humility on our part to approach Jesus in the exact same way that He approached us - Through Mary. After all, if Jesus was obedient to Mary for 30 years of his life here on earth, shouldn't we imitate Him in that respect? If Mary was good enough for Jesus, who are we to say that she isn't good enough for us? Jesus Himself said that "No servant is greater than His Master"

Everywhere. Hurry, destroy them all, otherwise souls won't be saved. Get off youtube and destroy all statues now.

As a Catholic, I respect the artist and the statues in a museum. I also respect and enjoy looking at the statues in a church. None of that means I worship or idolize images or whatever. Such a simple concept that you seem to not understand. I respect Mary just like I respect my own mother. I do not idolize or worship my mother just like I do not worship Mary. I simply respect them. I worship Jesus Christ and no one else. Please learn how to distinguish the difference. It sounds like you don't understand the definition of the words 'respect' and 'worship' so maybe start there. I worship Jesus. I respect Mary (as well as my own mother, father, and other elders in my family). Also, I'm glad you asked about the Hail Mary in the Bible. The prayer, Hail Mary, incorporates two passages from Saint Luke's Gospel: "Hail, the Lord is with thee." and "Blessed art thou amongst women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb." And "full of grace" from John 1:14
@flyliltyteguy6 жыл бұрын
Please read the Bible and your Early Church fathers. As a Christian, you should know who people like Justin Martyr, Polycarp, St. Augustine, Ignatius, etc all are. They were people directly mentored and taught by the Apostles. This was before any Bible was created. I suggest you read the Bible and go even further beyond it, and read what the Early Church fathers had written and said. As for the Hail Mary, in mid-13th-century Western Europe the prayer consisted only of these words with the single addition of the name "Mary" after the word "Hail", as is evident from Saint Thomas Aquinas. If you don't know who that is, you're not fully immerse in Christian doctrine or history, in which that case, you should dive deep as soon as you can. The first of the two passages, in the Hail Mary prayer, are from Saint Luke's Gospel. It's the greeting of the Angel Gabriel to Mary, originally written in Koine Greek. The opening word of greeting, χαῖρε, chaíre, is translated to "Hail", literally with the meaning "rejoice" or "be glad". This was the normal greeting in the language in which Saint Luke's Gospel is written and continues to be used in the same sense in Modern Greek. Accordingly, both "Hail" and "Rejoice" are valid English translations of the word ("Hail" reflecting the Latin translation, and "Rejoice" reflecting the original Greek). This is a matter of you knowing and connecting your Christian history, scripture, and the translations of the actual words spoken during those times.

Sir Allen said something that is exactly from the Bible which is that it is God's job to separate the right and not, but it is our job as God's ambassadors to inform the other peopl about this. Unfortunately, most of them are offended and will reject us. They sometimes misinterpret it as picking a fight well in fact it is not. 7:30 It doesn’t say anywhere in scripture that the bread and the wine is a symbol of the flesh and blood, in both John 6 and Luke 22 it affirms that “unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood you will not have life in you” Jn:6:54, and he reaffirms what he says several times the Greek word here that is used for ear is also tragon which refers to gnawing like…you know…when you actually eat something. You also didn’t provide any Scripture to back up your claim that it’s merely a symbol
@johnkelsey14863 жыл бұрын
When Jesus spoke of eating His flesh in John 6, He had already given the crowd an indication that He was has speaking figuratively. Earlier, in verses 32-35, Jesus had called Himself bread, comparing Himself with the manna in the wilderness: “‘Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.’ ‘Sir,’ they said, ‘always give us this bread.’ Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.’” As if to clear up any misunderstanding, Jesus then distinguishes the physical from the spiritual: “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life” (John 6:63, ESV).

While this video is generally well-informed, I feel like there is a lot of misinformation or misinterpretation in this video of Catholicism. So as someone who is Catholic, I wanted to clarify our beliefs and some of the facts in the video before you inform your viewpoints. 1. Firstly, there isn’t just Protestants and Catholics who consider themselves Christians. I was baptized Orthodox Christian so there is that branch. Also I’m pretty sure Unitarians and Mormons usually consider themselves Christians (I’m probably forgetting some branches and I apologize). And I can be wrong in this, but aren’t there a lot of Protestants who don’t consider themselves Evangelical? Could just be the phrasing, but there are more than Catholics and non Catholics who are Protestants. 2. I have only met two Catholics who have completed all seven sacraments because Holy Orders and Matrimony are usually contradictory (unless you become a deacon or get an annulment). Again, could just be a phrasing thing. The only ones that are required are baptism, holy communion, confirmation, and maybe penance to absolve your sins. 3. I just want to clarify that Catholics have a symbolic view of the Bible and we are more focused on the meanings than the words. Therefore, clergy step in for modern interpretations of an ancient book. Of course, each individual also can have their own interpretations as well. That’s why so many Catholics have different interpretations of the same religion and where the whole “cafeteria Catholic” phrase comes from. Again, we can do that without going against our religion. 4. The Catholic Bible came first, so unless this was post reformation, Catholics didn’t add to the Protestant Bible. Protestants only consider the books written in Hebrew and Aramaic valid. I can’t tell you if they’re contradictory or not though, but I do believe that there are inconsistencies in scripture outside of that anyway imo. 5. The Mary section. So the priest assigns prayers and acts of penance based on what he feels the situation calls for. I think I’ve been to confession and have received prayers that aren’t Hail Marys as an act of penance. And Catholics believe Mary was without original sin. She wasn’t God, but she was considered the greatest human to ever live and that is why she was chosen to be Christ’s mother at least in our view. 6. I have literally not heard purgatory mentioned by a single priest or Catholic teaching and I went to Catholic school for 19 years and attended Catholic Church for longer. Not once. 7. We pray to “the dead” because we believe in saints and guardian angels. We consider saints to have more specialized areas of interest. You’re not wrong, but there’s an explanation. 8. I personally believe the bread and body as symbolic. Again, I can do that as a Catholic. In my personal opinion, I consider myself a Christian as I am a follower of Christ and see him as the divine savior. Being raised with a Catholic mom and Orthodox dad who never forced each other each other to convert, I see there are amazing things that each sect brings and it allows you to fine tune your beliefs more and find a place where you are most comfortable. I believe that the most important thing about being a Christian is to spread the message of Christ and we can’t really do that if we’re trying to exclude others from hearing it or participating in it. If you disagree with me, that’s fine, but let’s at least agree to disagree and work on what’s most important: making the world a better place. K bye.

Are Christian just professing faith in Christ? NO! Christ said, "NOT everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, BUT he who DOES the WILL of My Father in heaven." (Matt. 7:21). This is the problem for many - OBEDIENCE to the commandments. When one is told to obey, he or she reacts "NO, don't tell me what to do, I'm a christian anyway. This and that what I want to do." Christ is best example of obedience. He obeyed to point of death (Philip 2:5-8). So we must follow what He says and don't just believe. We as conservative Lutherans along with Roman Catholics and others hold to the Nicene and Apostles Creed. I would suggest your viewers read these. BTW, the bible doesn't say the bread and wine is a "symbol". No where does symbol appear in the text. Christ says, "This is my body". Christ says, "This is my blood". Christ doesn't say, "This is a symbol". Conservative Lutherans believe Christ says it so it is. We don't know how. We don't believe it physically changes. But we do believe Christ is present in the Lord's Supper. It is more than a "symbol".

STUDY WITH US IN THE IGLESIA NI CRISTO OR CHURCH OF CHRIST to know the will of God that should be obeyed to enter the kingdom of heaven. Thank you.

They were represented as though they did everything the muslims have actually done to Catholics. When I fasted and prayed, I'd often start to hear the HOLY SPIRIT defend the Catholic Church and would tell myself that I had something blocking me from hearing GOD correctly. Eventually, while writing a book against the Catholic Church, I had a miraculous change of heart that immediately put all my years of research into proper perspective, and I sought to become a Catholic, but it was 5 years, because I didn't know how to tell my mother and siblings who had been going through the same thing as me. "You are saved by faith alone" is not biblical. I've not read all the comments, but this has not been addressed. Practically the entire bible is a contradiction to that statement. Even that verse from Romans is both mistranslated and taken out of context. Jesus contradicts this himself over and over, "Many will say to me, 'Lord Lord!' and I will say to them, 'depart from me you evil doers'." Verse in Romans: Mistranslated: The verse originally said "you are saved by faith" - Luther added "alone" to fit his theology. If one understands the context it can be an OK, if confusing, translation. Context: If that verse in Romans is looked at in context, Paul is talking to the Jewish church in Rome who wanted to circumcise the gentiles and he is arguing that *works of the Jewish law* do not bring salvation. He uses the example of Abraham who was saved by his faith ...a faith which Abraham acted on by leaving his homeland at 80, trusting in God's promises. The point is that "God accounted it to him as righteousness" BEFORE he was circumcised, but AFTER he had ACTED on his faith. Faith = Obedience of Faith. (1st and last time Paul mentions faith in Romans he calls it that) Works = Jewish Law - specifically circumcision. Finally - James stated very clearly that "Faith without works is dead." You can't pick one verse and build a theology around it, ignoring the rest of scripture.

@Christina-cf9ot5 жыл бұрын
@@zbawieniejestwieczne9013 No one is arguing that we are not saved through faith. The question is - are we saved by faith alone? The bible clearly says the answer is no. I believe the formula often used is "by grace, through faith, working in love." Analogy: Have you ever ridden as a passenger of a motorcycle? You have to lean with the turns - which can be terrifying as you are actually leaning towards the road when you want to lean away and stay upright. You need to get away from a fire - there is no way to run fast enough but someone offers to give you a ride on a motorcycle. You need three things to get away from the fire: 1. A motorcycle and a driver (Grace and God) 2. The belief that the driver can get you to safety (Faith) 3. The actual action of getting on the scary donor-mobile and then doing the scary things the driver tells you to do (Works - Obedience of Faith) If you are missing the third it really doesn't matter that the first two exist. Actually, if you remove any of the three components you will not get to heaven: 1. no grace - atheism is true 2. no faith - you are pharisee who has already received his reward 3. no works - your faith is dead and you'll be told "depart from me you evil-doer" Obedience of Faith. Jesus told us we needed to be baptized, to confess our sins, and to eat his flesh to be saved. "But the good thief..." Yes, the good thief had special circumstances. Others may also have special circumstances, but those are OTHERS not YOU. If you are TOLD to wash in the Jordan river 7x it doesn't really matter if another is cleansed with a touch - you must wash to be clean. The act of being obedient in faith is what God rewards. Trust, humility, a contrite heart, and submitting to the greater knowledge and wisdom of God when you do not understand - those actions are what save you. Those are all Works done in Faith - trusting in Grace.

In the late fourth Century the Catholic Church labeled the Gnostic writings apocryphal and canonized the writings of the Apostles as scripture. In 2021 pastor Allen Parr rewrites history and calls the deuterocanonical books from the Old Testament apocryphal. He even gets the number of books wrong. There are seven of them not 14. If you need proof of this history, look into the Gutenberg Bible. It was printed in 1451 before the Protestant movement even began. It includes all seven, not 14 of the deuterocanonical, not apocryphal books of the Old Testament. The scariest part of this entire issue is that the pastor can get every single bit of this wrong and people will still call him a great pastor. He loses no credibility whatsoever. This is especially scary since he is a Christian pastor.

It's the same premise when as Catholics we have statues of Mary and Saints. We respect them as they have lived their life for Christ and we look up to do so with just as much love and respect. And why would she not be considered in higher esteem than any other Apostle or Saint? God chose her personally to give birth and love His only Son, Himself in flesh. So yes she was without original sin and yes Jesus(God) loves/respected her very highly. Those are a few reasons we love Mother Mary and ask her to intercede for our prayers. I really wish people would sit with one another (a Catholic in this regard) and ask them questions in an open conversation rather than assume or get their information from tainted sources. Also, technically, in it's simplest form, anyone who truly believes in the Holy Trinity is "Christian."

It is not a baptism in the sense that an adult would have done, but this is a dedication to the faith-to Jesus. This is a presentation of a new life to the congregation and a time for family celebration.

St. Augustine, Bishop of Hippo, in the Third Century, invoked the Holy Father to do Infant Baptism, because he felt his falling away from Christ was due to his lack of Baptism. When one is unbaptized the devil has control of your soul. Infant Baptism has been in the church for 1700 years. It's Protestants who misdirected on that. Every Catholic renews their Baptismal vows once per year during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Protestants literally undid everything Christ established. Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Eucharist, Penance, Extreme Unction, Holy Orders and Matrimony are the Seven Sacraments of the Church. Without Baptism you cannot receive the Holy Ghost, and without Confirmation you cannot be a Soldier of Christ. Without Matrimony you will not persevere in marriage. Without the Holy Eucharist you'll be weak and unable to resist evil. Without Penance you'll stay in your sins.

Not in our Good Work. Good work is a part of Christian Life but Good work cannot Justify and Sanctify because our Work is Garbage in the Eyes of God. The Word of God will reveal, Faith and Good work cannot save Us in Eternal Hell. Only by faith alone. Faith + Work = Salvation, Wrong. Genuine faith = Salvation Because of Our faith will produce Good work. Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- Ephesians 2:9 not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. .. .. God will revealed the Truth. I'm still waiting on a response to this question myself. No where does it say that the bread and "grape juice" are symbolic. And as for the "7 symbolic I AMs" only one of those does Christ reinforce 6 times in a row, even when his disciples can't accept it and turn away. If it were mearly a symbol, his followers wouldn't have struggled with this saying and walked away from him that day, and if they simply misunderstood his symbolic speech, he would have corrected them as he did in other times of misunderstanding, but instead, as they question this hard teaching, he DOUBLES DOWN AGAIN, "unless you chew the flesh and drink the blood of the son of man, you have no life within you." The followers all leave and he turns to his Apostles and asks them if they're gonna leave too! And of course Peter says, "to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life." They didn't fully understand it at that time either but chose to believe anyways. Protestants today don't fully understand it, so therefore choose NOT to believe. How is that any different than the followers in John chapter 6? And lets not forget what St Ignatius of Antioch warned us in the late first century, "...be wary of those who claim that the Eucharist is not the true body and blood of our lord Jesus Christ." This man was personally taught by John the Apostle and was companions of St Paul and St Peter. Is it not logical to take the word and understanding of a man that WALKED WITH THE APOSTLES over the personal interpretation of a KZbinr 2000 years later? The majority of the Catholic beliefs explained in this video are grossly misrepresented unfortunately. I leave with one last question to ponder...if the Bible is your sole authority, and the Canon of scripture was closed at 66 books, who determines that those 66 books are divinely-inspired? Was the table of contents magically floated down from heaven? No, the Catholic Church canonized the Bible 1600 years ago and it had 72 books in it. 1200 years later Martin Luther decided to remove 7 books on his own authority, but I thought that we weren't supposed to add or take away from scripture? So who gave Martin Luther that Authority?

As for the Pope we believe the that Jesus left behind a body to interpret his scriptures and over forms of revelation, when he said, “You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my church”. In fact the early Christians turned to Peter’s revelation to decide they would no longer follow Jewish dietary laws in the acts of the apostles and then held council in Jerusalem to confirm the teaching as binding on all Christianity, just like the Pope and his Cardinals do today. True, and here are some other things. Mary is not on the same level as Jesus, nor was she a sinful woman, as the Bible states she was without sin. She is venerated, but not worshipped. The Pope and the Cathechism are not on the same level as the Bible. The Bible overrides the Popes teachings (which they rarely do) in case of a corrupt Pope. Catholics add only 7 books, not 14 And finally, prayers for those in purgatory only help them if they accept it, and are not required to get to Heaven.

@@sgp2010 "as the bible states she was without sin"....you err.The belief that Mary lived without sin from the moment of her conception springs from your Church tradition. It evolved over a period of time and was not formally defined as a teaching of your Church until 1854. It is not found explicitly in Scripture, but for Catholics it is twisted from the testimony of Scripture that Mary was “full of grace” (Luke 1:28) and “blessed” (Luke 1:42).

Steven Peay what verse says she was sinless? I can show you verses that clearly say that Jesus was sinless. 1 Peter 2:22 who committed no sin, nor was any deceit found in His mouth; 2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.

So the way the confessional works is like this... It is just like going to counseling for your mental health. Everyone is not strong enough to cope with sin the same way we cannot cope with mental health so we go talk to our teacher that God sent to help us learn how to fight sin. I may confess everyday to God and never overcome my sins because maybe I am praying wrong or not repenting daily as I should, but if I confess to the priest, he teaches me what scriptures to read to help me overcome the sins that are causing me pain. The same way we ask people all over the world to "pray for me and my family through this hard time" is the same way you ask the priest to pray for you while fighting with sin. I attend a very old school Catholic Church in Canton, MS called Sacred Heart, and the father of the church broke everything down for me to understand as a young adult in my twenties. The confessional just basically makes you hold yourself accountable more because you have confessed your sins to a guy that you really don't want to know your business the same way you feel when confessing things about your mental health episodes to your counselor. Everyone is not as strong as they think they are when coping with sin and even mental health.

@lary Snw You can’t read part of John... You have to read the entire book sweetie! Thanks for trying to correct me though! I am in RCIA so I have all the answers Here you go: Just as God empowered his priests to be instruments of forgiveness in the Old Testament, the God/man Jesus Christ delegated authority to his New Testament ministers to act as mediators of reconciliation as well. Jesus made this remarkably clear in John 20:21-23 John 20:22-23 is nothing more than Jesus emphasizing one essential aspect of the priestly ministry of the apostles: To Forgive men’s sins in the person of Christ- “Whose sins you forgive, they are forgiven, whose sins you retain are retained.” Moreover, auricular confession is strongly implied here. The only way the apostles could either forgive or retain sins is by first hearing those sins confessed, and then making a judgment whether or not the penitent should be absolved. My priest actually asks me to talk to God more and points me to scriptures to help me with my specific sins. It’s all about accountability 🤦🏽♀️ He has never told me I have to go through him to get to heaven. He does NOT force us to come to confessional. It’s a preference for different people :)

You get Catholic teaching on Justification wrong; and the sacraments are not “works”; also get Magisterium and Tradition wrong (one of Great products of which is the Bible itself); Catholics do not believe we have to “go through a Priest” to get to God or to get forgiveness. Wrong on Penance, wrong on Mother of God - she was necessarily conceived without sin and remained without sin. Purgatory all wrong. Prayer to Saints is like asking any person to pray for you. Your laugh at Eucharist - is saddening - my friend - there is no scripture to point to your insertion of Symbolism - not in any Last Supper account - nor in John 6 - Please try to learn enough to be accurate so that all Christians can come home to the Universal Church headed by the Bishop of Rome - it is the only one Christ founded and it lives on and welcomes all!

@@itsmetiqui1136 Mary remaining without sin is not in the bible. When the church compiled the bible, they do not include all, and those that are left, remained as written tradition. Since the authority is in the church and not in the bible 1 Tim 3:15 says that the church is the pillar and foundation of truth... So we obey on their decision with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, that is why our church doctrines and dogmas have consistent truth. And if I am not mistaken, in one of the apparition of Mary, she said about the Immaculate Conception or Immaculate (her) Mary? I'm not sure about the details

Mary recognized her sinful state Luke 1:46-48a Mary brought a sin offering to the priest Luke 2:24 & Leviticus 12:7-8 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, Romans 3:23
@aswiftturn48903 жыл бұрын
@@ebelebryan3159 Romans 3:23 says, “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” First John 1:8 adds, “If any man says he has no sin he is a liar and the truth is not in him.” These texts could not be clearer for millions of Protestants: “How could anyone believe Mary was free from all sin in light of these Scripture passages? What’s more, Mary herself said, ‘My soul rejoices in God my savior’ in Luke 1:47. She clearly understood herself to be a sinner if she admits to needing a savior.” The Catholic Answer Not a few Protestants are surprised to discover the Catholic Church actually agrees that Mary was “saved.” Indeed, Mary needed a savior! However, Mary was “saved” from sin in a most sublime manner. She was given the grace to be “saved” completely from sin so that she never committed even the slightest transgression. Protestants tend to emphasize God’s “salvation” almost exclusively to the forgiveness of sins actually committed. However, Sacred Scripture indicates that salvation can also refer to man being protected from sinning before the fact: Now to him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you without blemish before the presence of his glory with rejoicing, to the only God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and for ever. (Jude 24-25) Get the free ebook "Getting Started with the Early Church" Six hundred years ago, the great Franciscan theologian Duns Scotus explained that falling into sin could be likened to a man approaching unaware a deep ditch. If he falls into the ditch, he needs someone to lower a rope and save him. But if someone were to warn him of the danger ahead, preventing the man from falling into the ditch at all, he would be saved from falling in the first place. Likewise, Mary was saved from sin by receiving the grace to be preserved from it. But she was still saved. All Have Sinned Except . . . But what about “all have sinned” (Rom. 3:23) and “if any man says he has no sin he is a liar and the truth is not in him” (1 John 1:8)? Wouldn’t “all” and “any man” include Mary? On the surface, this sounds reasonable. But this way of thinking carried to its logical conclusion would list Jesus Christ in the company of sinners as well. No faithful Christian would dare say that. Yet no Christian can deny the plain texts of Scripture declaring Christ’s full humanity either. Thus, to take 1 John 1:8 in a strict, literal sense would apply “any man” to Jesus as well. The truth is Jesus Christ was an exception to Romans 3:23 and 1 John 1:8. And the Bible tells us he was in Hebrews 4:15: “Christ was tempted in all points even as we are and yet he was without sin.” The question now is: Are there any other exceptions to this rule? Yes-millions of them. Both Romans 3:23 and 1 John 1:9 deal with personal rather than original sin. (Romans 5 deals with original sin.) And there are two exceptions to that general biblical norm as well. But for now, we will simply deal with Romans 3:23 and 1 John 1:8. First John 1:8 obviously refers to personal sin because in the very next verse, John tells us, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins . . .” We do not confess original sin; we confess personal sins. The context of Romans 3:23 makes clear that it too refers to personal sin: None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands, no one seeks for God. All have turned aside, together they have gone wrong; no one does good, not even one. Their throat is an open grave. They use their tongues to deceive. The venom of asps is under their lips. Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness. (Rom. 3:10-14) Original sin is not something we do; it is something we’ve inherited. Romans chapter three deals with personal sin because it speaks of sins committed by the sinner. With this in mind, consider this: Has a baby in the womb or a child of two ever committed a personal sin? No. To sin a person has to know the act he is about to perform is sinful while freely engaging his will in carrying it out. Without the proper faculties to enable them to sin, children before the age of accountability and anyone who does not have the use of his intellect and will cannot sin. So, there are and have been millions of exceptions to Romans 3:23 and 1 John 1:8. Still, how do we know Mary is an exception to the norm of “all have sinned?” And more specifically, is there biblical support for this claim? Yes, there is much biblical support. The Name Says it All And [the angel Gabriel] came to [Mary] and said, “Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you!” But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.” (Luke 1:28-30) Many Protestants will insist this text to be little more than a common greeting of the Archangel Gabriel to Mary. “What does this have to do with Mary being without sin?” Yet, the truth is, according to Mary herself, this was no common greeting. The text reveals Mary to have been “greatly troubled at the saying and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be” (Luke 1:29, emphasis added). What was it about this greeting that was so uncommon for Mary to react this way? We can consider at least two key aspects. First, according to biblical scholars (as well as Pope John Paul II), the angel did more than simply greet Mary. The angel actually communicated a new name or title to her. (cf. Redemptoris Mater, 8, 9). In Greek, the greeting was kaire, kekaritomene, or “Hail, full of grace.” Generally speaking, when one greeted another with kaire, a name or title would be found in the immediate context. “Hail, king of the Jews” in John 19:3 and “Claudias Lysias, to his Excellency the governor Felix, greeting” (Acts 23:26) are two biblical examples of this. The fact that the angel replaces Mary’s name in the greeting with “full of grace” was anything but common. This would be analogous to me speaking to one of our tech guys at Catholic Answers and saying, “Hello, he who fixes computers.” In Hebrew culture, names and name changes tell us something permanent about the character and calling of the one named. Just recall the name changes of Abram to Abraham (from “father” to “father of the multitudes”) in Genesis 17:5, Saray to Sarah (“my princess” to “princess”), in Genesis 17:15 and Jacob to Israel (“supplanter” to “he who prevails with God”) in Genesis 32:28. In each case, the names reveal something permanent about the one named. Abraham and Sarah transition from being a “father” and “princess” of one family to being “father” and “princess” or “mother” of the entire people of God (see Rom. 4:1-18; Is. 51:1-2). They become patriarch and matriarch of God’s people forever. Jacob/Israel becomes the patriarch whose name, “he who prevails with God,” continues forever in the Church, which is called “the Israel of God” (Gal. 6:16). The People of God will forever “prevail with God” in the image of the patriarch Jacob. What’s in a name? According to Scripture, quite a lot. St. Luke uses the perfect passive participle, kekaritomene, as his “name” for Mary. This word literally means “she who has been graced” in a completed sense. This verbal adjective, “graced,” is not just describing a simple past action. Greek has another tense for that. The perfect tense is used to indicate that an action has been completed in the past resulting in a present state of being. “Full of grace” is Mary’s name. So what does it tell us about Mary? Well, the average Christian is not completed in grace and in a permanent sense (see Phil. 3:8-12). But according to the angel, Mary is. You and I sin, not because of grace, but because of a lack of grace, or a lack of our cooperation with grace, in our lives. This greeting of the angel is one clue into the unique character and calling of the Mother of God. Only Mary is given the name “full of grace” and in the perfect tense, indicating that this permanent state of Mary was completed. From Catholic Answer

Qu33n_ 1nk worship? Never! Venerate, yes! When I see a portrait of my grandmother who passed long ago, I remember how much I love her. I can even speak to the portrait, not waiting for an answer or thinking that my grandmother’s picture is her. By the same token, I see a picture or image of the Virgen Mary, and think that Jesus gave her to all of humanity when he gave her to St. John to care for. I tell her that I love her and to please pray to the Lord for me and my intentions. That is what intercession is. Just like you might ask your pastor and your brethren to pray to the Lord for your necessities. The only difference is that I know that she is in Heaven, and very close to her Son. And that her Son listens to her requests with a big heart, just like in the wedding feast in Canaan. Before you tell me that I’m praying to the dead, also let me remind you that those who believe in Jesus Christ and have died in good standing with the Lord have eternal life. And prayer (for intercession) does not equate worship.
