Hey Everyone! You may notice that at two points in the video there is an abrupt cut when she is talking and then in my analysis I talk about something we did not see or hear. I ran into some trouble with copyright because as she was talking they showed brief clips of her at the Olympics and those moments had to be removed from my video. As such, here is what she said in the moments that were cut out. at 9:38 after she talks about how one of the judges explained that what she did wasn't that shocking she adds "It’s just a different approach in breaking. You have the athletic style breakers, you also have the more artistic style breakers and all of them are very valid" 18:54 when she's asked if she knew it was going to be rough and answers “I knew my chances were slim” she then adds "as soon as I qualified I was like “oh my gosh, What Have I done?” Because I knew I was gonna get beaten and I knew that people weren’t going to understand My style and what I was going to do." those are the only things that had to be removed. If you want to see the full answers, checkout the original interview here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaPPlYGQntCElaM

Imagine a figure skater who can't do any jumps, just concentates on creativity and originality. Other figure skaters do triple Axels, but she shows up at the Olympics, showing us that she can drive backwards and do a few easy spins, but she keeps telling us "That's just my style!" It is ridiculous. Come on.... If she were able to do the difficult stuff like power moves, she would do it, but she can't. Or is she trying to tell us that she could do it but doesn't because it's not her style? Who is she trying to fool except for herself?!?!

rarely does commercial TV show skaters 6-10. or the host country that is automatically given a spot and doesn't have to qualify. you get a lot more artistic than jumps. Especially with the old system. some argue now that it is ice jumping versus figure skating.

@@DarfCuddles69 I get it. But that's the point. There are the jumps, and there is the artistic stuff. But a very good figure skater does all of it. (Watch spidy's first video on Raygun, and then you understand what I am talking about) An elite figure skater wouldn't concentrate on just one aspect of figure skating and completely neglect another aspect. A top figure skater works on the whole package, and the top figure skaters, the best of the best, master all aspects of it. Both the athleticism, as well as Creativity, musicality, precision. None of them would compete at the Olympics without showing any jumps, and focus exclusively on the aspect of creativity and originality. And if this fictional figure skater is also clumsy and somehow embarrassing, then it wouldn't be easy to explain with just "that's my style!" "Learning to jump at my age is really hard! That's why I just gave up."

@eat.food.not.friends I've watched the prior videos. I've been quite fascinated over the whole thing. I think her plan just faced the wrath of social media. As a comparison- back in the day with ice dancers Torviill and Dean and their Bolero long program. It won them the gold, but it minimally bent the rules and was way way less technical than the rest. Beautiful, different, unique, and never seen before. And still pretty controversial to this day within the sport. Dean was even quoted recently saying “We did a lot of long lines and lyrical movements, and it was more about a passion than about being a technical exercise."

I am not sure she understands that people's comments on her performance are not "mean", they are just observations of people who have a sight and common sense. The comments are not there because of people's lack of understanding of breakdance, or because people are evil, they are there because none of us can comprehend how all of this could have happened. She is nowhere near those breakdancers that represented their countries with pride at the Olympics. Compared to them, the first thing I thought was "am I not understanding the joke?". So I really don't think she knows exactly what we are trying to say. Not to be mean, but out of respect for all the brilliant and talented b-boys and b-girls who are now overshadowed by whatever this situation escalated to, thanks to Raygun. So, I did some digging, and from what I understand, she used to be a ballroom dancer. The ballroom dancing society has been trying to get ballroom dancing into the Olympics as a sport. It couldn't Then, as an In into the Olympics, they started pushing break dancing to be included, and this ballroom dancing society set up this Oceans comp that Raygun won. But you had to be a member of this society to enter. Not many did, and Raygun won. It seems to me that she has done well as she is in a weird bubble of people with money who belong to this Ballroom dance society competing. But it's a bubble. A real breaker wouldn't be doing those comps and wouldn't belong to the ballroom dancing society. Also, Aus is huge; breakers who live far away would not have been able to compete. And she has a PhD in breaking, so everyone probably assumes that she knows what she is doing. The really interesting part is actually all the people around her who were training her, who saw that routine and supported her. Now, that psychology I'd be interested in. And one las thing, sorry it's not artistic or creative. It's just not. 🤯

I used to dance in Melbourne Australia. I know that was then and should be more/better younger breakers or just hip hop style dancers who are light years better than her. Australia might not have the OG culture that created breaking, but social media would definitely expose interested parties towards breaking. Melbourne & Sydney are have strong ethnically diverse populations that should have breakers better than Rachel, who is a 35yo. Her performance was embarrassing and unnecessarily laughable.

Yep AusBreaking (the association that WDSF partnered with to run the Oceania qualifier) has only existed since 2019. Her husband is her coach and he can't do power moves either and like Raygun does extra unusual footwork to get the points to get through. I have seen a couple of people say that Raygun has better musicality than Holy Molly so she ends up beating her because Molly loses her musicality going in and out of her power moves.

I agree and to be fair to the girl, I don’t like analyzing someone actions and all that but I assume this guy means well, but for Raygun sake too, she can’t be acting like this and just have this false sense of bravado. Truth was she was terrible or in nicer words not good enough. IDK/we don’t know her personal life that she seems to have a narcissistic vibes, but it’s clear people around her suck up to her and are afraid to make her upset. And I agree if she just take even some accountability and andit she wasn’t good enough and her performance was not good, people would have a bit more respect. And she can still defend her skill and say she will be stronger. Also we don’t know the full details or never know, but she did qualify whether there was possible collusion from her part, but she did qualify and that is probably from the poor organization and competition in her country. There probably were better dancers, but during the competition there wasn’t anyone else that better than her. Her narcissism and lack of accountability is still really bad and what makes people upset. People make mistakes and will do something like she did and I get it’s hard to take hate that I also feel has gotten over the top and so toxic in todays world. But you understood that risk and have to accept it and move kn and try to be as better as possible in life.

I challenge people in the comments to name 5 olympic participants. Now, to those same people. Do you know who Jimmy Fallon is? Can you name 5 talk show hosts/celebrities? . The olympics is not the biggest platform in the world by any logical measure. Nobody really cares who is in the olympics until they win. And even then, I'd be surprised if a lot of people could name 5 gold medalists from the olympics... . The recent olympics had 30 million viewers. To put that into perspective, Game of thrones season 8 had 44 million viewers while it was airing... The last superbowl had 123 million viewers... So is the olympics the "Biggest platform in the world"? Definitely not. . And to make one final point here. There are social media influencers making more money and who are more influential to society than probably all the olympic contestants combined. . Whether we like it or not, that is the reality we live in.

She couldn't wait to tell everyone that she signed with an influencer agency amidst all the controversies, and she actually looked arrogant while talking about being invited by a seedy billionaire to dance on a boat. She literally can't wait to bask in the attention that she has unjustly stolen from everyone. > Ive created movements before and told it looks bad by my crew. What does this have to do with anything? There is no room for bad moves at the Olympics. There is only decent, good, great, amazing, etc. The baseline is DECENT and any moves you bring should have been well-practiced and vetted. The fact that most people found those moves funny, if not ridiculous, says a lot about how delusional are the people who helped her get those moves to an international stage were. > HOWEVER our community are mostly done with it. Gunn's actions hurt more than just your community. Try understanding the impact of what she did before you defend her based on your experience in your own little bubble. > She is going through way too much for simply dancing poorly. That's an absurd statement. It's this type of mentality that helped her get to where she was. There is no room for "simply dancing poorly" at the Olympics. > Murderers are getting less flack than she is. That makes no sense. Murderers actually get punished for their crimes. With Gunn, people are upset because she damaged the identity of many groups of people and she's doesn't appear to understand that and doesn't appear to be genuinely sorry. There will unlikely be any "justice" for what she did and she gets to walk away calling everyone who disagrees with her a bully or "doesn't understand her style of breaking". It's not too different to why people are upset about academic fraud if you're familiar with it. Huh, she is actually an academic too. > So its move on time It's not your call to make, especially when you haven't demonstrated the ability to understand why everyone is upset.

I think, its pretty clear there was something in the selection process that she was aware of that wasn't exactly on board, and hearing the judge from NZ openly state they knew she would get smashed, means that the whole rumour around there not being enough notice time for the actual qualifier so perhaps enough " competition " didn't actually show up to show Raygun she actually isn't the best in Australia also has some truth to it, Along with you have continuously stated she has a confidence issue and suspect she knew she wasn't olympic level which would also go through with a lot of peoples assumptions recently that she knew she wasn't gonna win so she just did an absolutely bonkers routine as an F U to the sport in general. So if it was a short notice competition if you didn't already have a passport then you were out and then you needed to join the World Dance Sport Federation (who usually are ballroom) and the other requirements within that association. Zero idea of how much time and money it would take to meet those requirements. I was thinking that I would love to hear from the breakdancing community on this. I was a teen in the 80's and saw much more skill on the street. Not trying to be mean, just truthful. I agree that she has delusions of grandeur, but I'm wondering who fed these delusions? Like, how on earth did she end up competing in the Olympics??
@amandamandamands
@amandamandamands 2 ай бұрын
The Oceania and Africa regions were very week, Paris decided that they wanted to have at least one person from each region so the person who won their qualifier got an automatic spot and the people who placed 2-4 went to a couple of other competitions to get the final 16 that competed at the Olympics. You don't hear anything about the person who qualified from Africa because unlike Raygun they did the same sort of routine that they did at the qualifiers.

If the international response didn't manage to humble her then she is entirely dissociated from reality. And the fact that she can keep smiling/laughing through it all is honestly pretty creepy. There is either no normal human emotion or her armor is ironclad. She should be a politician.

I love your channel, but I really really wish you would use split screen while you are describing specific facial expressions, etc., I think it would make it more interesting and easier to understand exactly what you are referring to in a video that we can’t see. Even if it’s just a still image and not a video, it would be helpful.🙏

The look of contempt, I think, can also be her cringing at the thought of her routine being a sketch on Fallon.
@ameliaamare
@ameliaamare 2 ай бұрын
Would she show that much contempt immediately if she hasn't already seen that video as she claimed? She talked for a whole 15 seconds sounding like she had seen the clip already and suddenly claims half way through that she hadn't seen it, presumably to pretend that she want to care too much about negative things (and then realised that she screwed up pretending that she didn't know much about it and tried to save it by saying that people told her bits and pieces of it)? Wouldn't the normal response be surprise or confusion or even ask the interviewer to clarify if she didn't know? Wouldn't she being by saying people had told her but she hadn't seen it instead before saying how she feels about it?

This brings out how sad this overall issue is. assuming it was a good "poem", maybe that's her talent, her place to shine. But she wrote a "poem" trying to shine in a "math competition" and now she's upset. Why not just enter a "poem competition" in the first place? It's sad that so many people try so hard to be something they're not, "wishing on someone else's star" as the song goes.

she may or may not be a narcissist. But people need to stop throwing that word around. Narcissistic personality disorder is frightening. If somebody is grandiose or egotistical and full of themselves and that's really how they feel they're not a narcissist it's just narcissistic style or trait. True narcissists (npd) are insecure toddlers who are all allergic to feeling shame. The grandiosity in egotism is just a mask that when reflected back is what they're in love with. "Oh I'm flute in French in Italian." In reality has a tenuous grasp of the English language but due to your base rate bias you believe it and you say wow that's amazing you're so smart. that's the reflection of the mask that they love with. Because they're so ashamed of how dumb they are they need external validation to tell them they're smart. if you really want to get a grasp of it you can always be narcissistically abused by one intimate relationship or check out Sam vaknin. Highly recommend this book malignant self-love narcissism revisited. Remember narcissist didn't fall in love with himself he fell in love with his reflection

She still wants to give the impression that she is exceptionally good at what she does. She wants to make it seem as if the reason for the criticism is her style, and not her lack of skills. And I think deep down she feels that she has big deficits, but she wants to be admired like other breakdancers are admired when they do their power moves. And she believes that what she does is so good that it can be compared to the power moves of other breakers. At least that's what she wants to convey to us and she demands that we play along with this charade like those around her have been doing for years when it comes to her talent and skills in breaking.

Spidey- I've watched for quite a while now, commented occasionally, but one thing i really enjoy refarding your analysis is the fact that you do your best to be respectful! Even if you are criticizing a subject's behavior, you always reiterate that the science us not 100% and you still offer varying possibilities that could explain what we're seeing. That really respects the fact that while we can speak to ovserved patterns and general indicators, each human being is, ultimately, unique and can be the exception to the rule. And you are always asking us to take the information for what it us and decide for ourselves. It certainly prevents us from making dangerous assumptions! So, thank you.

Great interview for you to be able to analyse, Spidey, I was really hoping you'd catch it! Your analysis was excellent and fair, as usual. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Just because she somehow qualified doesnt mean she had to accept it and still go. She should have "stepped off" and passed it on. Unfortunately ego and delusion took over and not only has it affected the breaking community but australia as a whole. My cousins in Canada msgd me straight away about it, she made a laughing stock of Australia. I'm not sure how she even has the guts to do any of these interviews. I'm not saying that to be mean, its just really mind-boggling how there's no remorse for taking that spot from someone who is genuinely talented and could've potentially won medals in a first ever event at the Olympics.

She seems to use the word "honestly" to mask anger or reframe it into positivity. I notice that almost Everytime she uses that word it's with body language that indicates she doesn't mean a lie or the truth but anger or contempt. Like she's using it as a colorful way of pearl clutching.

You’re the most honest person and not mean but good heavens this lady is totally convinced she’s the best and we are the ones who don’t understand her style. For me she seems to think the problem lies with us. Her body language make me uncomfortable and I have difficulty explaining my thoughts, without getting mean and defensive. Thank you for another video about her. I personally since the beginning, questioned her ability to have represented Australia at the olympics. The olympics for me means something extraordinary and I have tremendous respect for the athletes but I was flabbergasted with her from day one. And because of her performance and the response it feels as if people are making openly fun off her and she is to “delulu” to see it.
