Hi bentist. I wanted to share a story with everyone. So basically I was younger and I had a surgery for grommets (some hearing thing) anyway. I had a different doctor than I ideally had for those types of surgeries (keep in mind that was the third time I have a grommets). The next day I was fine so I went to school and it went on for like a week but I had a lingering sore back and when it got to a Saturday (about 3-4 days later) I was in a lot of pain. And I mean a lot of pain. So my parents rushed me to the ER. They were fully expecting me to be faking it so the doctors took a bunch of tests and they saw that I had blood in my urine. They still didn’t know what was happening so they made me stay the night. The next day it was more tests but they still couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. I was getting all types of tests like ultrasounds in my back and a stuff like that. So that stuff continued for another day but then they realised I was having a kidney failure but didn’t know what caused it. They reduced me to 15ml of water per hour (which was torture because it made me thirsty). My condition was getting worse and worse. My grandad who has been a doctor for 60+ years had photographic memory and is a very smart man called up the hospital and told them what he thinks what it was. Keep in mind my grandad graduated with the top marks in his county in the UK and went to a very prestigious University. And he retired from being a full time doctor at the age of 82. The doctors listened to him but denied it. So they continued to keep doing tests and I was just getting worse and worse. They finally decided to listen 4-5 days after I got admitted and they were very very close to getting me to have surgery to find what’s happening and close to getting me a kidney transplant. When they finally listened they figured out I had a severe allergic reaction to an anti inflammatory that I had during the surgery. After that my friend Kyle Godwin who plays professional Rugby Union he was on tour with the Wallabies (Australia’s international rugby team) in France he got the team to send me get well soon videos which was awesome. I started to get better after that. Two days later I was released from the hospital. I have so much more to talk about but that’s a lot for one KZbin comment. Please like so the bentist can see this. I would also like to thank the amazing team at Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth, Australia. TL:DR: I had a severe allergic reaction to an anti inflammatory during surgery and spent a week in hospital with kidney failure. Legend of a grandad figures out what’s wrong.

I am allergic to fleas like severally allergic and how we figured this out is I was at a friend's house I spent the night and slept in the recliner and I realized I have some bite so I thought they were mosquito bites but they got bigger and swollen so my mom put some anti itch cream and it helped for 30 minutes and I was itchy again and thats when my mom got concerned she realized how swollen they were so the next couple days I had some benadryl and some anti itch cream now benadryl can help with itch bites so thats why my mom gave me benadryl but then she noticed they got even bigger and bigger so she took me to this er we had called medic-spres a er for children and adults so we went there and they took some test and told us I was allergic to fleas I was shocked and my mom said I couldn't go over there any more and ever since then we always knew what I need for flea bites BTW I'm ten so-

I saw a patient in the ER in NYC that had almost the exact thing only she didn’t have strep, she had mono and a nickel allergy. I knew immediately when your video started - swollen red lips was her first sx. She actually ended up intubated before we figured it all out. Her orthodontist was the hero - he was called (3 am) and first thing he said was nickel allergy.

I caught on that it was an allergic reaction because I'm allergic to Flouride (which is really rare) and I had the same symptoms everytime brushed my teeth, and it was harder when I got my braces because they gave me a toothpaste with more Flouride in it, I now have a toothpaste that is Flouride free and I'm not showing any symptoms of an allergic reaction anymore!

I'm at 2:50 and guessing it's a latex allergy. I had a very mild one and kept getting huge ulcers in my mouth. Once they switched to latex free bands the ulcers went away. Update: I was close!

Listen whoever is getting braces they dont hurt while putting them on mine didnt hurt afterwards but it affects different people but if it does hurt just take some pain meds and after 2 -3 you will be fine

Its ok. . . I just got mine and they were a tad uncomfey at first, but I got used to 'em. I am actually going to have my bottom braces added in a few weeks which might be difficult to adjust to, but one can only hope for the best. I wish you the best of luck :3

I actually experienced something similar when I got braces. It took my orthodontist like 10 months to realize I was allergic to my wire. I got my braces at the end of January of 2020 and my body reacted fine at first. Here’s a little background info. I have always struggled with big gums for a long as I can remember as my mother also has big/swollen gums. It used to be a huge insecurity for me, but when I got my braces I didn’t really care or notice anymore. In like July I got my first power chain and rubber bands at the same time. Around this time my orthodontist prescribed me a mouth rinse because in June she noticed my gums had gotten worse. In November a few weeks after my appointment I woke up and my gums were bleeding a lot. My gums had never been tender or bled before. A couple times I noticed that my gums were bleeding a little bit but I didn’t think too much of it because I didn’t have a lot of symptoms of anything severe. When I went to the orthodontist about it she realized I had a nickel wire. It finally dawned on her that I may have been having a minor allergic reaction. She changed my wire to a stainless steel one and I haven’t had anymore issues since! My gums did bleed a couple times afterwards but that was for a couple days. I recently had a surgery 2 months ago to get rid of some of the extra gum tissue and it went well! My orthodontist plans to do it one more time when I get my braces off so that my teeth are more visible than my gums. I’ve seen such a huge difference and I really love my smile so much, but I would prefer if not much gum showed when I smile. My orthodontist also wants to put these little implants in my gums to bring my teeth up and make them appear more but that will make my treatment a few months longer. I’m okay with that, I just need to bring it up to my orthodontist the next time I go which is Monday! Wish me luck, I’m supposed to be getting fitted for my retainers and get my braces off in August!

@@athena3935 they are kind of like bug bites in a way but they really hurt you’ll have to look it up I can’t explain it they usually happen around the mouth or inside the mouth it’s super painful

I knew it was an allergy as soon as you did, and i'm not even a medical professional. Honestly surprising the doctors didn't even think of it, considering they likely see people suffering allergies to piercings all the time for the exact same reason: cheap jewelry plated with nickel, sometimes even falsely sold as silver. Happened to my sister as a kid. Nickel earring caused her ear to swell up and she had to have the piercing cut out. Only thing I can think: maybe they assumed the wires were made of medical grade stainless steel or something similar, and didn't think they might contain nickel.

I wasn’t thinking when I got my braces, thank god my mom remembered that I’m allergic to nickel and gold. So I had to get them off, and I couldn’t get the nickel free cause gold was in them. But I had to take Benadryl for the amount of swelling in my lips.

Strep throat, I’ll just explain it. The first couple of days, it’ll feel like a slightly more intense soar throat. After a week or so, it starts hurting a little more then usual. After more then a week, breathing will begin to cause slight pain. 2 weeks, breathing feels like a soar throat. 3 weeks, breathing, swallowing, or any activity including your throat, will feel like shards of glass. 4 weeks, the shards of glass feeling will worsen. 5 weeks, things will start lessening. 6 weeks, glass shard feeling could go away. 7 weeks, everything will most likely lessen in an immense amount or completely disappear. 8+ weeks, everything will disappear.

I’m allergic to latex, I first learned I had the allergy when my throat started closing when the dentist was working on my mouth with some latex items. Wasn’t fun.
