It is said that Francis will be approving female deacons. I can see in Novus air do parishes, in particular, a use for a deacon. Better consecrated hands touching the Eucharist observing the community . But we already know they will be riight up the altar where they DONT belong - up there with altar girls, female lectors and cantors. One more reason io avoid the Novius air do Mass , sadly . At least every parish should have an option of orthodox Novus air do without so much taken out of it , such as the prayers Early in the Mass , and throughout the Mass . (We could be much more unified , but we KNOW they will overstep the boundaries. and I’d be happy to be proven wrong .) VERY nice and clear explanation. Thank you, Fr.

It's my understanding that the deaconesses in the Bible assisted in tasks like distributing communion outside of liturgy similar to an emhc today with the homebound and they also assisted in the baptism of women as baptism was done naked in the early church

These deaconess were vital in the early church for ministering works of mercy to widows, women, and children. It was a matter of propriety in the early church, as it should be today.

Our Lay Permanent Deacons take turns in doing homilies on Sundays.

Permanent Deacons are not lay persons, they receive the sacrament of the holy orders.

I think priveleges of men should be restricted to liturgy only. I see no reason for women to not take their parts in managing parishes, dioceses, the church. It is liturgy and tradition that should be kept unchanged, not bureaucracy

My parish wouldn't be able to survive without the work of women and the church as a whole wouldn't be able to survive without women. However, I agree with you that women have no place in the liturgy and I believe they shouldn't be members of the clergy.

If Jesus were making this decision today re: women’s roles in the church today……what would he say? I don’t think He would be so closed minded and exclusive. Let us pray the Holy Spirit moves the Catholic community of followers (aka church) forward.

The stance that Jesus took on woman was radical because of the importance he gave to woman. Its all over the bible. Jesus will never be so "open minded" to say "men" can become "woman" by just feeling as you see in modern culture and some Protestant churches. Now that is anti-woman. You can see the effects in sports, toilets, private spaces, education, etc And Jesus is not anti-woman. He sees womanhood in its true sense. Hope it helps
