About that, apparently Steve Irwin did wrestling on the side. And because he was used to manhandling crocodiles, he was rather good at taking down humans as well.

Fun fact: that comes as a result of translating pretty directly from Japanese. Backchanneling is much more culturally important in Japanese conversation than it is in English. If you don't do it frequently the speaker thinks you aren't listening. That often means repeating back key words.

I used to this through my neighbours backyards. I'd see how far down the street I could get, jumping fences and hiding in bushes before someone, or their dog, saw me. In hindsight, I imagine all the neighbours looking out their windows saying, "there's that weird girl, jumping and flipping behind our bushes again."

As a 65yo ret vet instructor, stealth is not simply putting your foot or hand down softly. If you are stalking on foot, its very much weight on the back foot, back leg bent in a half crouch while extending your front foot slowly, hovering in a balanced position that enables you to "feel" the terrain in front of your foot, lightly touching the ground without transferring weight to the front foot. Balancing on the back foot in this manner enables you to feel objects that are sharp (think large thorn, or spikes etc), brittle, slippery or muddy terrain without transfering weight onto the front foot. A sort of slowrelease isometric type movement. The transfer of weight is so incremental that if something is detected underfoot, the weight transfer can be stopped, reversed and the foot (or hand if crawling) placed in a better position all while maintaining balance. This muscle control and focus is practiced while being aware of your environment around you and the control should be so complete that at any stage you can completely freeze movement in total balance. Your backpack should be strapped tightly to your body to move as a part of your body and not shift suddenly to upset balance, and straps or any loose equipment fastened or taped up. A straight edged strap moving in the wind while you are motionless is a red flapping flag to any person scanning an area. You practice mind and muscle connection control for hours and hours on end. Like the horse squat/ stance for one....... As an instructor you can break a strong man in minutes with a simple pillow you use on your bed, or get you to collapse face first into the ground on a parade ground in minutes. Mind muscle control. And awareness of yourself inside the environment...... The ability to stalk someone inside a chainlink fence in moonlight that they are not aware of you being so close that you are 2-3 m away from them and they have no cause for alarm...... SF is nothing like the shock and awe in movies The most successful operation is when you have been, and gone, and they didnt even know you were there.....and it took you 3 days to get that close and 4 days to get out with no food. Why? Food leaves an aroma on the night atmosphere through your breath and your sweat on a still day that can alert.....

Great video! I like that you add a side note on the psychological impact, and that you need adequate recovery for that one as well. It would be great if you could make a video on that subject. What is the fine line between pushing your limits and respecting your boundaries? Doing long rowing sessions help me improve my stress tolerance, but can lead to accumulating more stress through daily life than what I can recover. Probably adding some kind of (psychological) deload would make sense.
