Well that was the whole point of fitness in the first place - To be prepared for any crisis, like fighting an enemy, to run, to carry load etc. All in all, just to be an asset to yourself and your people around you. But down the line it became limited to just look good or be strong ..... For a sport.

Skipping is one exercise that can be useful for; activities of daily living, CV fitness, speed, endurance, agility, co-ordination, responding to every crisis from a house fire to flash flooding, all combat arts including boxing MMA wrestling, active professions like nurses cops fire fighters, close range violent encounters like gun fights & knife fights, & weight bearing joint health.

'' Or worse yet, what if someone asks you to help them move home?'' That was probably meant as a light aside? But having helped someone move home, I found it one of the most taxing experiences of my life. You never seem to find a balanced centre of gravity. You are working in a limited space and sometimes have obstacles to lift over. Then come the stairs and the lady of the house screaming at you for breaking some ornament. Blissful relief is only found on the Chiropractors table.

One underrated skill is to blend into any subculture and find who you can trust among sketchy and desperate people. I've seen it quite a bit how rich or poor stick out like a sore thumb and are visible uncomfortable among their environment. I've once dragged a self-taught hacker to a University for a seminar on IT. It was fun to see how much of chicken he was entering the university despite it being open access to anyone interested and him usually breaking into places online where he should not... (my idea was to guide him to a path where he can make his passion a job and legally so). I've also seen some amazing people who could find rare things barter and sell like few others. In case of a financial crash these abilities would come in very handy...

Schopenhauer said people seek happiness by valuing one of three things over the other two: 1. What other people think of you 2. What you have 3. Who you are (He added that number 1 and 2 will certainly lead to suffering, and that number 3 was the best shot for happiness) This video made me think of this since this fitness mindset seems to be very in line with "Who you are'" whereas one could say bodybuilding is probably "What other people think of you," and powerlifting and/or strongman is "what you have (strength)." Probably a wild comparison but it's what this made me think of. I really like your philosophy towards fitness

This was one of the most extraordinary videos I have enjoyed. It has driven me deep into the cave of my soul to rethink: "Why...am I alive? Why....am I eager to get fit?" Thank you!

Interesting and entertaining video! I myself am not training for a certain crisis in particular, but to stay fit and healthy as I age. Being a physiatrist I encourage people to train and to use compensation strategies ( both physical and psychological) to overcome their disabilities.

I would also include even tough it’s rather unlikely to be helpful: having the ability to take hits and give some. You just need to hit stuff with your knuckles for exemple to strengthen your punches or hit yourself or get hit by a partner to develop a tolerance to pain across any area.

Adding to this, you can train the bones in a very real way - Muay Thai kickboxers practice kicking trees with their shins, and shaolin monks do similar things with their heads.

Just not the head! But yes to bones and wolf's law. Weights also increase bone density. Even running does.

Yes it can because it's a case of "Train hard fight easy". The "fight" might be an actual fight, an accident, pulling/lifting someone during an emergency etc etc.

Great video! I've had the Joe Rogan speech "Become the hero of your own story" (potentially paraphrased) in my head for a while now, and this is the perfect content to help do exactly that. Thanks for this content, it's really thought-provoking and helpful! I hope you manage to get the flood in your house sorted asap and hope there wasn't too much damage.
