I'd say the popularity of the Gamera movies among Japanese kids wasn't so much as giant monsters whaling on each other, but seeing kids just like them knowing everything and bossing all the adults around. Because in these movies, if a giant monster shows up, the closest 12 year old boy apparently declares martial law and takes over Japan.

The reason for all the Expo '70 propaganda is because they co-financed the movie. Daei was in serious financial troubles in the 1970's. So the reason it's such a crisis that Jiger is trying to destroy Expo is because if she does then they won't have the funds to finish making the movie. Just get ready for the next one where Sea World is co-financing the movie.

If I ever get to direct a monster movie, I'll have an event for it at the local convention place but a scene in the movie (which debuts at said place) where it's damaged by the monster and have something happen in the screening room like a giant monster hand busting a wall or whatever as a gag, like how the superman vs goku rematch had the convention room it was debuted in glitch up at the part where Superman shoves goku through the convention building. The Expo 70 footage is literally the only thing I enjoy about this movie. I grew up in Japan (military brat) and my childhood home was within walking distance of Expo Park. You could actually see the Tower of the Sun from my bedroom window.

You know, I'm pretty sure the two Kenny kids commited murder. Cause neither Gamera or Jigar had a say in the prosses AND the baby was alive up until it got wacked on the head by the kids. Cause, you never know, maybe Gamera wanted a baby Gamera. Godzilla got a son, why can't Gamera have one too? Also, maybe if they wrote in something like "Oh, civilians/refugees are being kept safe in the Expo." I think it would have made sense when the actors tell Gamera to keep Jigar away from it.
