Wait, wait... Did they say it would cause a Magnitude 18 Earthquake? That's insane. When this movie was made they would still have been using the Richter Magnitude scale where a Magnitude 10 Earthquake would be a once a millenium super-quake and each increase of 1 magnitude increases the power by a factor of ten. If the earth is shaking 100000000 times more than a super-quake you only see every thousand years, that's not an earthquake anymore, that's an explosion that makes an atomic bomb look tame. Bits of Japan would be in orbit.

Grey Jedi One of the reasons I like tokusatsu/kaiju flicks is that the monster costumes were quite inventive, actually, and the models of cityscapes looked pretty decent. The cinematography was also done quite well.

Daiei was actually bankrupt DURING the shooting of "Gamera vs. Zigra", the thing is only the higher-ups knew about it. It's a wonder (and testament to director Yuasa) the picture was even completed at all. "Kenny's" name is "Kenichi" in the original Japanese. "Kenny" is more of Sandy Frank's tomfoolery. The environmental thing was a big deal in 1971. Japan had a HUGE problem with pollution at the time. However, they were able to curtail it and pretty much get it under control. But the opening credits of "Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster"? Yeah, that's pretty much how bad it was at the time. The "earth science" refers to stuff we shot into space that somehow managed to make it to Planet Zigra and polluted it. The Japanese version is explicitly said to take place in 1971. Sandy Frank changed it to "1985" in his dubbing to make the movie seem more current when he released it here in 1987. Are you really only just noticing Gamera's bloodshot eyes now? He's had them since way back in "Gamera vs. Gaos." Honestly given how Daiei was going bankrupt at this point, this movie really should have been the end of the Showa Gamera series. Gamera: Super Monster had no reason to exist other than as Daiei last attempt to get out of bankruptcy. So with that said, Gamera vs Zigra feels like a much more satisfying end to the Showa series. Screw Super Monster. This is the true ending of the Showa series.

I'm pretty sure the fight between Batman and Superman is one of the longest uninterrupted one vs one fights in any movie. If you take out other movies that just cut away constantly to other material and remember that BvS stays with the fight pretty much the entire time....you would see it is one of the longer ones. I mean...compare how much ACTUAL FOOTAGE there is of the "Big 3" fighting Thanos, I think it is like 3 minutes at best... and how long Cap actually fights Thanos with Mjolnir....it's like a minute. I think Batman and Superman fight for like 8 or 9 minutes straight.

I will give it this- to me at least its kinda neat to see Japense Sea World in all its modernistic glory in the 70s. Thats one thing this movie has that others don't. This is obviously much lower budget then the other actual gamera movies but the live action stuff doesn't feel as stagey.
