Out of curiosity I looked up the American mom, Edith Hanson. She was 30 at the time of the movie and she is still alive. She was a college dropout from Oklahoma, went to Japan to visit her brother, not speaking a word of Japanese. She taught herself the language, had a great career as a television host and journalist and never left. She saw an opportunity and grabbed it. A quite extraordinary woman.

European languages also called planets "stars" while stars where called "fixed stars". This was because stars rotated around the polar star, like they where fixed on a rotating sky dome, while planets moved around more freely. @VunderGuy3 жыл бұрын
To be fair though, if you have interstellar travel... why would you even need to invade lesser developed inhabited planets when in terms of raw materials there are literally asteroids with bajillions of tons of raw materials that, while rare and pricey on earth (mostly because of artificial price manipulation, but whatevs) are super abundant elsewhere. The asteroid belt alone, just 4% of the moon's mass about is is 2,390,000,000,000,000,000 metric tons of free floating rock free for the taking. Even considering over 75% of that mass are carbonaceous asteroids... that's still more than enough metal to completely eclipse what we have easily accessible here on earth by several orders of magnitude.

@michaelccozens3 жыл бұрын
@@VunderGuy True, although there may be difficulties in zero-g mining v. the normal grav sort, but surely not enough to offset the added task of invading a planet. A more likely motivation would be seizing habitable living space roughly matching the evolutionary environment of the creature in question within a self-renewing ecosystem. That stuff's hard to manufacture, and gaining nearly a planet's-worth would be quite the coup. As we already say, they're not making any more real estate (in substantial amounts, anyway). 0:40 I'll never not see that thing as the evolved form of Timmy, Crow's evil jet-black doppleganger from MST3K. 5:29 The aliens have a "Somebody Else's Problem" field. 5:42 There's a line from "Apollo 13" where Tom Hanks says, "What if Columbus sailed home from the New World and nobody followed in his footsteps?", and all I could think was, "The answer you get to that is really gonna depend on your audience". 6:06 The aliens have mastered FTL flight but not immobilizers, apparently. That thing'll be in a chop-shop inside the hour. 8:07 If the ship was on remote control, why did it crash? There may be a logical flaw in this movie about farting space turtles. 13:17 The aliens are flatworms? (FYI, the claim that flatworms can learn by eating other flatworms is popular in sci-fi, but extremely weakly supported) 13:33 And yet, whenever I use that strategy to try to fit-in to a new workplace, I get yelled at. 16:41 This may be the most sensible part of the movie. Traffic accidents are actually a major cause of death.

Watch Troll 2 - I'm pretty sure there's a Corn Job in that movie - Along with a bunch of other famously weird crap.

Gamera is really neat, Gamera is full of meat, we believe in Gamera! Thanks to recently discovering this channel and this specific Playlist, that goddamn song has been stuck in my head for days now! Thanks a lot, jerk!

Brandon, nowadays traffic accidents might not be as deadly, but its still quite a big number , 2,118 deaths in Canada alone in 2016. I googled for how trafic was in japan during the 60's: " during the 1960s, the annual number of people killed on the roads in Japan exceeded the annual number killed in First Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895. For this reason, 1960s Japan referred to its road fatalities problem as the “Traffic War"" (japanallover.com) so yeah, Kenny is just smart. :P

Damn... now lots of 60s and 70s anime having traffic accidents to orphan a protagonist or anyway affect the plot makes sense, it was sadly frequent in Japan those days

13:23 No Brandon, you don't understand! If the aliens eat the Kenny's brains, they can gain their PACA (Protect Annoying Character Armor). See my comment in the first Gamera video to see my thesis of this phenomenon. And with the Kenny's PACA, they can easily take over the earth without any resistance!

Guiron is actually one of my favorite Gamera monsters. After Irys. And Legion. And Zedus. And Gyaos. OK, maybe not one of my favorites.

Ethan Webster top 5 monsters? His design is pretty interesting in all seriousness.

I think Kendra was saying "Kon-chan" in the Sandy Frank dub. And while that was a nice little addition of normal Japanese speak, if she doesn't view Kondo as an authority figure and more as a peer (which isn't hard to picture due to how hard he is to take seriously), then she should say "Kon-nii". Which apparently doesn't strictly pertain to actual older siblings, but rather any male that is older, but not quite an adult....God, I'm such an otaku.

I can relate. Ever pull and prepare everything you could want on a sandwich from the fridge only to realize you don't have bread? Then you remember your neighbor has bread because you were partying at his place the night before and saw it. But he's at work, and you're also still tripping from the acid you all did. But, ah ha! His brother stayed the night! He'll be there with the bread. I somehow find the door. Alas, the stairs... the stairs and the blasted stairwell.... It takes half an hour but you beat them and find your neighbor's door. Arnold, get your fat ass up! Tim! You want some shrooms and an omelet? ... Fuck the sandwich.

Brandon: the japanese language has, as English, the respective words for planet and star. 惑星(spell: "wakusei") which means planet and 星 (spell: "hoshi") which is for star. In the case of the movie I guess it was a mistake or malinterpretation by the translator(s).
@chusganzerla145 жыл бұрын
Yep, wakusei literally means "wander star".

This is actually the first and only Gamera movie that I've seen. A friend told me they were showing a Godzilla movie for free at an old theater we frequent and I went along expecting Godzilla to tear some shit up. Instead I got....Kenny's! Oh well got some good laughs out of it at least.
