To be fair, the Raptor used in both the 1984 novel & the 1993 film adaptation of *"CARNOSAUR"* is actually Deinonychus, which means "Terrible Claw". It was much larger than Velociraptor at 11 feet in length. They didn't used Velociraptors until the sequels.

Imagine if they had made an official *"CARNOSAUR 4"* - ignoring *"RAPTOR"* & *"The Eden Formula"* - and they used Utahraptor, which was even larger than Deinonychus; at *20 FEET!*
@robwalsh9843

In turn, Michael Crichton seemed to derive his Velociraptors in the Jurassic Park book more from Deinonychus as Deinonychus are much larger and come closer to human-size than turkey-sized Velociraptors. Personally I think he chose it for the name. "Velociraptor" has a special ring to it.

I know the gem of the story. There was a Sci-Fi bookstore in Berkeley and Roger Corman was doing a signing. My friend Grace worked there. She was about 16 then. She could draw you in. He said he couldn't think of his next project and she suggested reading Carnosaur. She's the reason that I read it.

Fun Fact: The old school T. rex roar used in *"CARNOSAUR 2"* had been used in *"The Land Unknown"* (1957), *"The Giant Mantis"* (1957), *"DUEL"* (1971), *"JAWS"* (1975), *"KING KONG"* (1976), *"KING KONG LIVES"* (1986; for the theatrical trailer, unused in the final film), *"JAWS:* *The Revenge"* (1987), and *"GAMERA The Brave"* (2006). Plus, it was also used as Bowser's roar in the *"Super Mario Bros."* video games.

The drivers ed thing was a reference to the gory movies they show in US drivers ed classes to put the fear into kids and maybe make them think twice about speeding or whatever. A classic one is called "Blood on the Asphalt” and they were notorious for sending kids running from the room throwing up. They use real footage of horrifically demolished human remains in real accidents.

Although I'm sure someone has already explained it, I have to say the Driver Ed Joke actually makes more sense than probably any shitty joke Ive ever heard in a B (D) Film. Not sure about today but years ago it was pretty common for Driver Ed classes to show students a film about the Dangers of Drinking and Driving the same movie they would show people forced to take classes after getting a DUI/DWI it was known for showing very graphic and gorey images of dead bodies involved in drunk driving Accidents. Hence the Joke. Love your Show, Your Channel is one of my favorite of KZbin and being that I honestly watch only KZbin nowadays I am very Grateful that you do what you do. Side Note I would love to see u and Mark from Weird Movies with Mark do a Colab one day if that's even Possible. The full size T rex was built in three weeks and didn't work very well, and they were only given ten weeks overall to create the film's dinosaurs so the miniatures for both and the full sized animatronics for the Deinonychus were similarly rushed. The third episode of the early nineties discovery channel show movie magic covered the creation of the dinosaurs, well as much as a half hour program could at any rate. A couple of visiting effects artists discussed the problems with the full sized rex when I was in college. Sadly that was long enough ago I can't remember everything that was said.

This movie is Loosely based on a book by John Brosnan in 1984. The book is somehow crazier than the movie. The book has a lot more dinosaurs. These movies should have been called something stupid like "Dinopocalypse" and would still have made as much money. It is so much of a departure from the source material. Because of these movies, whenever CARNOSAUR is mentioned, people think of this abomination against cinema.
