When you said 'Don't you just love those lights?' there were all these streams of sunlight and bokeh on the picture and I though you were talking about them at first 😁

Great little shortcut. Did it wrong way round, typical me. Went to Santu coffee then cut down Old Tolbooth Wynd then went up steps opposite. Brought me out next to Jacobs ladder. Interesting street art half way up. Cheers for the help...

LOL, David Tennant! Awesome, glad you kept your cool! I probably would of nerded out, or embarassed myself and them. 😄😉 That is cool. Also, I love the direct routes you are showing us in this video. Thank you.

The News Steps are one of my favorite places to go up or down from the New to the Old Town and vice-versa. I admit I like better going down. But I will take them going up and rest halfway up to take a good look around.

I moved to Edinburgh in my 20s and learned the city by bus routes. What a difference it made when I finally worked out some shortcuts. Once you have a multi-level map in your head the city becomes much quicker to get around.

Oh my... Stayed in a hotel just behind Calton hill in March...wish I had known about Jacob's ladder...instead of walking the long way round 😳 Why is it called Jacob's ladder?

So funny. We always seemed to find those when we wanted to go "up" and not "down." LOL. Another great video Tony.

Amazing to know I walked all of these walks back in 2019 you are doing in this video and when I saw those steps I was blown away! 😁 That castle is so magical! King David the 1rs, son of St. Margaret of Scotland knew what he was doing when he built it! 💖

Now that is great! firstly, a gorgeous day and secondly, the last 2 times I visited Edinburgh, Jacob's Ladder was closed, so it was the long way around for me!! 😖 Absolutely going to use it, next time! 👍 Felt like we were in a game, with the footstep sounds 🤣 very cute!! Thanks for the 'more direct cuts' Tony hello from Denmark 🌸 🌱

If you turn left at the bottom of Jacobs Ladder you eventually end up at Abbeyhill, just a short way from Holyrood Palace...a lot quicker than going all the way down Waterloo Place and up North Bridge.

They do that with the padlocks on the forth bridge as well

That's perfect! Thank you! I'm planning to take the shortcut from the Grassmarket to the Castle after having coffee at the Cat Cafe (Maison de Moggy). Does that sound familiar?😉 I'm going to send this video to the grandkids now. Thanks again! David Tennant?!! 😲

Thanks again Tony! When I was there a couple of weeks ago, I didn't get to see the sun, so thanks for getting out and showing us the gorgeous day! I was staying near Calton Hill, so I saw Jacob's Ladder but had no idea where I would end up, now I know! I did discover my own "shortcut" by going through the New Calton Hill Cemetery (I just love your cemeteries!) which brought me to the end of the Royal Mile! To me it was more scenic than Jacob's Ladder because I also got to see the graveyard. I used this path coming and going a few times during my stay since I had a friend staying on the Royal Mile! Btw, wish you had at least gotten a shot of the backs of David and Georgia Tennant! I am a big fan too! 😍

Yet another great video, Cheers. I saw another video recently, by someone else, that briefly featured Waverley Statio booking hall and the beautifully ornate ceiling. Any chance you could do your own one and give us some more details on it a bit of history? I'm sure you could do the subject justice. Keep up the great work !!🙌👍👏

Thanks for the video Tony. I have gone down the 'short cut' from the Castle to the Grassmarket and down the News steps without realising that was what they are called. Next time I'm over from Fife I will definitely have to go down Jacob's Ladder to get to the Royal Mile. Best wishes and Awrabest, Gordon Taylor.

Whenever I come out the station heading to Old Town it's a flip between the News Steps or Cockburn Street to get to Royal Mile, depends how knackered I am on the day what route I use...mind you last month when I was over for an appointment near the Meadows I decided to head up by the Mound just to take a wee look at the Castle 😍 On my way back I took the scenic route and went down the stairs at the Vennel, down to Grass Market, up West Bow/Victoria Street to Royal Mile, just so I could see the Castle all lit up from the Vennel, love that view 👌 There again on Thursday...hmmmm what route to use this time 🙈

I'll be staying at the top of the building at the Italian restaurant in Grassmarket (4th floor walk up). I'm not looking forward to those stairs in the building and between the tram and Grassmarket with a suitcase. I had better start working out again. Ugh.
