Great review! I learn more from this review than I would have going to the dealer and looking at the vehicles, per se. It is the most HONEST reviews you will find on KZbin. Others are just car salesmen doing them. I am glad they changed the touch pad on the future models, since it is still the same on the 2022 Lexus RX. It is a learning curve to get the hang of it. Hope to see a review on the 2022 RX350 in the future reviews.

Thanks you for such a comprehensive and informative review. It's interesting the difference between the US and UK/European reviews of this car. In the UK the reviewers love the e-latch system and the steering wheel controls remarking that they're both clever and sophisticated, otherwise barely getting a mention. In the US and Canada, the reviewers, without exception dislike them. The same is true of the run-flat tyres (tires). I've had run-flats for years on my BMWs and I like them, I trust that if I get a puncture when travelling at high speed that I'll be easily able to maintain control and won't have to stop on the side of a busy Motorway/Freeway to attend to a flat. Sure there's a little more road noise in the cabin and they're maybe 5% more expensive but I also get more luggage space. The additional weight of EVs and PHEVs does put extra stress on the tyres and they're more likely to suffer from flats making run-flats an even more logical choice I think. Looking forward to delivery of my 450h+ next month.

Wonderful review. I’ve heard, the reason Lexus went with the button door handle has to do with sensors detecting bikes, cars or pedestrians traveling by and not allowing the door to open crashing into them. A mechanical solution would not have worked as well.

@wth2021i dont agree. These companies reaseach things. Reviewers dont. Those are just opinion based on little things they know. Saw lots of vidoes videos where a motorcycle, Bikes or even cars hit the door becuase the passenger or driver did not know something is coming at the back.

I work for Toyota so I may be biased, but the electronic door handles are electronic for safety reasons. It will stop you from opening your door if a cyclist or vehicle would impact the door were it opened. In that case it will beep at you and not open the door. As you said though, there are mechanical work arounds if the battery or electronics fail. Some other cars have a similar setup like Tesla.

I have the same system on Audi with classic door handles. They also would flash or be blocked if some obstacle is detected. So - no reason for such complicated handles that no passenger is able to open or close (unless they are instructed before).

Just a comment re the new door system. The desire to avoid the so called “dooring” accidents is highly desirable. This type of accident is so prevalent that it has its own name and makes up 15-20% (or likely more) of all bicycle car accidents and car door openers are considered at fault in most states. It usually results in severe injuries to the cyclist, not to mention the costs and insurance issueS. As a cyclist who has had to avoid this more than once (never hit thank goodness) I am very happy to see Toyota/Lexus do something about this. This feature makes the NX more desirable to me.

Once I was backing out of a parking space and this older woman was loading her groceries and she gave me the thumbs up and waved. I have owned three Lexus vehicles over the years. Gone away to BMW then Volvo. But am going to go back to a Lexus NX 2022. I have tested the new car extensively and it is superbly refined to drive with a brilliant adaptive cruise system and the best heads up I have ever seen. The touch buttons on the steering wheel are overwhelming initially but once you have set up your favourites it's very easy to use. As for the doorhandles, yes they are a little strange but you get the collision avoidance as a real benefit. Progress I guess.

Thank you for a very detailed review. I have been driving the 450h+ for two weeks now and overall, I love it. The door handles are not such a bad thing - people will get used to it. The steering controls are something else. The touch controls (just the function display) show up on the HUD every time hands graze over them - especially while turning and is distracting. They also lack texture and force the driver to actually look at the HUD or the buttons, every time a button press is required. Perhaps a SW update will include an option to disable controls display on the HUD and include more customization of buttons.

This is a good in depth and honest review. The new doors are linked to a sensor that won't unlock if it detects a car or bicycle on the side. I think it is an unnecessary complication, but that is how Lexus justifies it. My only other complaint is that there is a lot of piano black plastic on the inside of a $60k+ car. Here I am again at 3am watching my favorite channel and master mechanic. I just traded my wifes 2015 Rav4 XLE for a new 2024 NX250 (retirement present). I bought the base model to avoid turbos, CVTs and excessive electronics and my wife loves the car, Not a fan of the electronic shifter or the run flat tires but overall the quality level is high and drives and handles well. I chose the NX because the 2024 Rav4 XLE model had very limited color choices and didnt like the excessive black body and fender cladding. The NX is far more attractive. Last year I bought a new 4 Runner so now our transformation from Honda to Toyota/Lexus is complete and look forward to our retirement years to be trouble free with help from the car care nut!

Thanks for the review AMD. What should we do once the run flats wear out? Just get regular tires? How do we get around not having a spare tire? One big reason I don't want the plug in is that it doesn't come with Mark Levinson sound systemas an option. Also later on the range on on evs are going to be much greater than 40 miles. They will be in the 200-300s. 2022s will be stuck with 40 miles of ev range. As of yet the charging technology, where you can charge, how quick you can do it is not convenient and efficient.

Because the car made for Japanese or asian market don't have the same level of rust prevention as the car made for Canada. I know what you going to say. As much as I don't like the grilles on Lexus, the 450 grille looks very good with the rest of the front end. It just seems to blend in better with the angular design. I'm with you on the door handles. That's an unnecessary gimmick. I know this is an apples to oranges (or lemons) comparison, but Lincoln used those on the Continental. They are great when they work properly, disastrous when they don't. The infotainment system looks nice and modern and not like 2002 graphics that Toyota/Lexus seem to be stuck on. I still prefer actual buttons and dials for the HVAC controls. Thank you for showing us the new Lexus. It really looks like they did a good job with it. I have a lot more faith in Toyota/Lexus refining the hybrid models than the twin-turbo introduction in the Tundra.

The new door "handles" - I think that implementing the auto-locking feature (to prevent opening when other cars approach) would have been complex with a fully mechanical system: you will either constantly lock/unlock the door (noise, wear) or would have to add a secondary solenoid to disable opening (noise, more complexity). Seems to me the fully electronic solution is simpler (although having a secondary mechanical system as back-up may nullify what I said).

I think the outer handle is the compromise and "price" of the price of the NX. It's a "simulation" of the good old inductive door handle of the prius and later cars of Toyota. The inner handle is a very good idea, I think. One can prevent an accident and pushing is better than pulling I think. The only thing I don't understand is, why there is a manual mode and a automatic mode. There has to be a better solution.

Great review! I believe it would be mich interesting for all of us (viewers) if you make a comprehensive, comparison video between this Lexus and the corresponding cousin Rav4 Prime! I am curious if Toyota could shine in some areas (or not) and moreover if the high asking price for luxurious Lexus is actually acceptable.

Hi, AMD in regards to the why are there are 3 hood latch on the new 2022 NX. this is the answer that I found in a article. "The engine hood uses a twin-lock structure, a first for Lexus, to suppress engine hood vibration caused by air turbulence, contributing to improved quietness." Also, is the new engine T24A-FTS a good engine. Thank you for your great videos.

Sometimes there is too much "gimmicktry." I bought a new 18 RAV4 hybrid XLE because I liked the old school, notch shifter and the manuel emergency brake. and didn't want the newer 19 and on with the electronic parking brake, and the new shifter. I guess it is just me but some old school stuff is better. Oh yeah I like my nav/info screen built in. Just a neater look.

Lexus if you are watching one thing I don't understand is why don't you do different color inside trims and seats apart from black? I think a tan color or something other than black would be nice.

One con for the new infotainment system: the navigation is no longer built in. It’s connected. So you have to pay $16 a month just to have it there. Adding insult to injury, if you pay for the navigation but you live in an area with no reception the nav won’t work at all Aldo iirc no nx offers a spare tire now
@mrvang8077

Yeah....I really couldn't care less for the outdated infotainment center with gimmicky features. I can just replace it with a much better system that is much more modern and futuristic.

Well, you have options. Wireless CarPlay and Android auto will give you the nav you need. Maybe if nobody pays for the nav, they will give it at a lower cost. I think the cost of the data used by the nav.
@naveenthemachine
@naveenthemachine 2 жыл бұрын
True but remember the same problem I mentioned applies to CarPlay and AA. If there’s no reception in your area you can’t use the navigation either OEM or CarPlay or android auto. They won’t work. I know google maps has an offline mode for navigation but the navigation directions are horrible
@lsft
@lsft 2 жыл бұрын
@@naveenthemachine the infotainment on the Lexus actually has that in consideration. My understanding is the navigation downloads all info if any case of bad reception. "Enhanced Navigation is a cloud-based system employing Google points-of-interest (POI) data to help users quickly find what they’re searching for via the Virtual Assistant technology. Anyone in the vehicle can request directions, find POIs, and explore nearby businesses, and the system has an offline operational mode that continues working without a network connection. Lexus also promises a navigation map with a “beautiful design” through updated graphics and details."

@@TheCarCareNut Thanks! I was talking about the NX 350h. But, from what I read, it's basically the EXACT same car as the NX450h+, just with a bigger battery. I could be mistaken, but the Engine (A25A-FXS) and the transmission, as well as the motors are the same. Thank you though! Love your videos!

In many ways, that looks a lot like my $32K 2021 Venza LE. Yes, I am missing quasi-leather touches. But I took a look underneath the car and guess what? It appears to be similar to the NX. Approaching my 70th birthday, I don't normally crawl under cars anymore. But I was curious. Fuel economy is important to me and I see the same aerodynamic engineering.

You know what is sad? Kids today will never experience the shifting of a 3 or 4 speed manual transmission and the innate satisfaction and smile on your face when you get the perfect shift and match the rpm with just the right gear when going up and down hills and downshifting and upshifting and listening to a scratchy am radio station with Bill Haley and The Comets rockin'. Or when stuck in the snow and you rock back and forth and get you self unstuck with a little push from your buds. And you can do a tuneup with no tools other than a couple of screwdrivers and sockets in about a half an hour. I can't go on because I am tearing up. Oh yeah, something I didn't miss. Back in the day all rocker panels rusted completely through in two years.

Good review. I had the same toughts when I tested the NX regarding the Door locking and runflats. But also all the gloss black inside.. Though I can live wtih it did test the Merc GLC and Genesis GV70 but they do not have the same quality feel and they have gone even wilder with the infotainment.. considering their reliability records I went for the NX 350h do not need the bigger battery and but want the panoramic sun roof which you could not have wiht the big battery in the car.

On the TPMS and active grills. Got a chance to look at a 2022 NX 350 at dealer. It also did not active shutter grills (looks exactly like the 450h+). And it seemed to have older TPMS stem also. It was all metal and would not flex at all. I quickly looked at another car on showroom floor (not sure what model), but it had the same TPMS stem also. I wonder when the current TMPS stems need replacement tif he car's control system will support the newer model. Not a showstopper, but a bit disappointed. Overall, my deposit is on 350H Luxury trim. I think it will be a great upgrade over the Rav4. Glad AMD did this review to highlight these type of differences.
