This is what I used to love about the 70's. What were deemed as novelty acts could have a successful record and everyone would accept them as being just part and parcel of what made up the charts and go along with the overall frivolity. No-one, (except the few music snobs), went out of their way to dismiss them, and went along with the fun involved, chanting the main chorus line.

Back in the day my dad, who was a teacher of English in Germany, brought back a LP with songs from the Wombles from his school exchange travel to the UK. Me and my little sister, both primary school of age, were immediately flashed by this song from our first listen, and from then we played it day and night. Nobody else in our small German town, except from our family, had ever heard of the existence of the Wombles. Thanks for the upload! Brings back my memories ...

at 56 seconds in, a girl in what looks like a brown blouse and what I can only describe as a doughnut hairdo wanders into view and that for me is one of the high points of this clip, because it is so typically 1970s and that's the main thing. To me, 1974 was the 'psychedelic year' of the 1970s. Don't ask me why but it was. I wouldn't say the 70s was the decade taste forgot but one that health and safety forgot, ignored more likely.

When the sun doesn't shine and it's cloudy and gray And it's only the beginning of the wombling day And you've got to do the washing up for Madame Cholet Remember, remember, remember, remember Remember, remember, remember (member, member, member) Remember you're a Womble (Remember you're a Womble) Remember you're a Womble (Remember you're a Womble) Remember you're a Womble (Remember you're a Womble) Remember you're a Womble (Remember you're a Womble) Remember, member, member, what a Womble, Womble, Womble you are When it's foggy on the common and you just can't see And I womble into you and you womble into me Just remember we're so lucky to be wombling free Remember, remember, remember, remember Remember, remember, remember (member, member, member) Remember, remember, remember, remember Remember, remember, remember (member, member, member)
