I actually made close to 600 this week and I just started listing on eBay I’m not an average seller I sell things that I find for deals and flip… John Deere chainsaw runs.. sold for 200 tonight paid $20 antique in box cast toy tractor paid 30 sold for 120 it’s crazy I sold duck stamp prints paid $6 for 8 at a sale sold for 20-40 each this week😊

Thanks for the great video. I just started selling the other day and so far, I have had 2 sales which I am shipping out today. I offer free shipping, but I have factored my shipping cost into the price of my listings. I do not offer returns because I have been reading so many horror stories about returns lately. I am going to continue with this for my first months to see if my items continue to sell. I started on Postmark and Crosslisted to Ebay the other day. I just got my Amazon account approved as well. Good walkthrough! The reason some folks (The Auction Professor) would uncheck the require immediate payment is because they have return buyers that will load up their purchases over multiple days before they buy everything in one shot (after payday). IDK anybody besides him who does it this way. He's got a unique business model.

You choose how you want to ship each item. You don't need to write a complicated policy. When you list each item you just select how to handle that one item. Does that make sense?

Thank you for providing all this information. I have wanted to try selling but was way too intimidated. I am going to try and give it a go following your tutorial. Just a suggestion for your shirt pics, use straight pins (which you will not be able to see) to hold the sleeves out and flat away from the shirt for a better presentation. As a teacher, that is how I displayed clothing items on wallboards and bulletin boards.

The best teacher is experience. Once you get started you'll have better questions. One piece of advice. Allow yourself the same grace and latitude you'd afford someone else who is just learning how to do something. It's ok to learn from mistakes.

Scott, you are awesome! I started watching your tapes after Christmas. I started listing on January 6th. To date my gross sales are $734 (4.5 weeks) and noticed my Expenses are 24.5% ($201.) I have a store $21. mo. I have 80 items listed. How can I cut down the expenses. Then I must add in supplies. I'm selling on eBay because of you!! Where can I go for advise or help? I'm following your plan, list 4 items a day.. selling stuff I have here at the house!

First, AWESOME! You've gotten started and that puts you ahead of every single person who thinks about getting started, but doesn't. A question before moving on. Does your expense amount include shipping costs? I'm assuming it doesn't. If your expenses are only 24.5% including shipping, that's incredible. Mine isn't that high. Let me assume that it did not include shipping. Your expenses are probably high, in part, because of the store subscription. With only 80 items listed, the store subscription is a relatively high cost. I would also suspect that the items you've started with aren't particularly high priced. Lower priced items can cost a higher percentage overall to sell. Third, if you are using highlighted items or other "ad boosters," those can impact that expense ratio. All of that said, 24.5% for a beginning reseller in their first couple of months is incredible. I can't tell you exactly where it went without looking at each item's expenses. There is no way for me to do that. But you can. You are SO far ahead of the game. Your own experience will be the best teacher going forward. Keep listing and learning. Before long at all you can dive into your own numbers and spot the places you know that you can improve. You've totally got this!

I've had an eBay account for some time, but have never listed anything on it yet. I want to start listing books, DVD's, CD's, video games, & NEW board games and puzzles, all of which I'm gated out of listing on Amazon, where I've been selling books for seven years. Thank you so very much! You can sell anything you like. You can sell anything from t-shirts to toothbrushes or pancake mix to padlocks. There are some specific things to avoid, but not because you're new. Some items are not allowed. Things like firearms, prescription medical supplies and some brand names that go after buyers for using their names. But, for the most part, it's wide open.

Sold my first item ($455). Buyer paid shipping; I printed an Ebay label which was more than buyer amount Ebay suggested (suggested ~15 and I had books in a padded box actual $27.) . Received $364.57. Wasn't sure why such a large difference in selling price after Ebay took their cut.

Ebay takes the entire shipping cost, a fee percentage of the sale, AND shipping costs out of the money received. 💰 So, it looks like your total costs, including shipping costs, were about 20%. It was a bit high, probably because the shipping was more than you expected.

Hi I am trying to learn how this all works. I like many others the shipping scares me lol. I am on very very limited budget. As far as getting shipping supplies I know there is stuff to get from USPS and order from Ebay. I still have no clue what to order I don't want to order a bunch of stuff I don't need. I completely understand. It was a hurdle for us, too. You need a scale. You do. If a package is over 16 ounces (1 pound), it will ship USPS Priority mail. You can get those supplies free on the USPS website. If your package is under 16 ounces, you can ship it USPS First class. Those supplies need to come from you. We started with a few bubble mailers we picked up at a garage sale. I will try to put together something comprehensive for shipping

You don't have to have it. But it does make getting the correct colors easier. I've noticed a difference with sell-through rate, though.

Great video!! Very informative and easy to comprehend for a newbie. I have a couple of questions. 1. When figuring shipping, I'm guessing you how to set rate bcuz it's packed, know box measurements, weight and then stored 'ahead' of time. But at this point you wouldn't know how to adjust based on destination. Correct? 2. 1. That's correct. You have to know those things if you're using calculated shipping. If not, it won't be accurate. With some experience and a good scale, you'll just know a lot of that information. 2. No, this wasn't from my own template. The video is a few months old, and eBay changed them. So, I am literally editing a new video showing all the steps on the updated platform. It'll take me another day or two to get it finished.

@@TheChaChingKing I have a scale and use it. I just get confused when to measure and when you just price by weight. I'm getting better and your video helped with that. I use poly whenever possible and when "selling one like this" I base it on their prices and learn that way. I'll look for your video explaining the spreadsheet

I know this is an old video,it was great. I have a question. I am often in retail stores like Walmart, etc. Sometimes there are items marked down, clearance etc., but get thrown off on whether to buy as I can't gauge the shipping costs while standing there. I have bought some things which I later returned to store because after getting home and computing the shipping, there's no profit, and sometimes a loss. How can I eyeball an item and know what the shipping would be.? Thanks.

A little experience will solve most of that. One other thing to keep in mind is that clearance items may not sell for the same one they get marked down all over the country. Lots of them may hit the eBay platform all at once. As far as shipping goes, that really does get easier as you have a little experience. You'll have a much better idea as you so some.

I usually do. But, you certainly don't have to. It's MUCH faster if you have one of your own listings that's similar enough to use.

EBay handles all the incoming payments. You don't have to do that anymore. You have to link your bank account. EBay will make direct deposits into your account.

I love your videos. Thank you so much for breaking all of this information down. I used to do eBay probably 18 years ago? And I found that my profit was good. I would buy a a China tea cup for say a quarter and knowing that it was valuable after of course looking everything up I would sell it may be for $20. It just seem like that by the time eBay took their cut and the shipping it seem like I just wasn’t making a lot of money on a regular basis. I don’t know if that makes any sense so I started back up again lately and I’m trying to get items that bring in more money per item. Is there some type of way to upload lots of smaller items and get through that process quicker I’m finding it seems to be taking me an awful lot of time to take good pictures look some of this up and maybe I’m trying to sell too many different items. I am into the vintage linens, China patterns, Christmas Decour, I have so many varied interest, so maybe I need to streamline that to just start with just Christmas items? Any advice would be wonderful I appreciate again all these videos so wonderful to have this.

I think taking your photos in batches and listing in batches is faster. I have never focused on speed, so I'm not the best person to ask. I've always focused on trying to increase my average sale price instead of speed.... for the exact reasons you stated

And went to list this item I got at a garage sale. It’s a HYPERTECH Speedometer Calibrator. There are many listed , didn’t vehicle models … but when I pushed to list , it said I could NOT list it because of emissions???? Short answer ( long reason) . Anyway, would you know why I can’t list?

Thank you so much for the kind words! And, what an interesting issue! I've never heard of that, but it doesn't surprise me. Pay no attention to what other people are listing even if they seem to be getting away with it. If eBay tells you not to list it, don't list it. It's not worth losing your account. I would try a different platform. Facebook Marketplace would be my next choice for an item like that. It sounds like it has a relatively high resale value!
