@rcslyman89293 жыл бұрын
I don't have an ear for pitch, unfortunately (I just sing, I couldn't tell you what note is what, heh). But if I had to hazard a guess, I think that slight shift upward was to put him at pitch for one octave drop to that E1. But like I said, that's just a pure guess going off the assumption that whatever the reason, it was to make it easier to hit that note cleanly.
@MxCAT7 Жыл бұрын
@@rcslyman8929 I'm pretty ok at recognizing intervals and I think you're right. It sounds like he's sliding up to an E2 and then the subharmonics switch on and he drops an octave.
@Magere-Kwark Жыл бұрын
@Jona de Vries Yeah that's exactly what he's doing. While using the subharmonic technique you need to sing a note one octave higher than your target note. So his target is a E1 in this song, with the subharmonic you'll need to sing a chest E2 and the subharmonics drop it down to a E1. It's super interesting frequency wise .

That E1 at the end always feels like it's supernatural. I could swear he's the offspring of both an air and earth elemental, able to go so light and high, and then drag a note up from far beneath the Earth's crust. And the subtitles have fun with it, saying deep to deeper and then he hits the E1 with the subtitles accurately describing his voice hitting the note as "subterranean".
@inightmares19863 жыл бұрын
E1 only geoff can hit that low and nailed it perfectly. Btw, I love how she reacts this is by far the best reaction about voiceplay I've seen on KZbin, plus she notices all those small voice details in the background, while other reactors skipped it and focus on Geoff's vocal notes. I love that that final note is so low you can sort of hear the pulsing of it, like the waves of pressure are slow enough to differentiate between them - I play upright bass and it's pretty much the same effect as when you get a really good bow going on the open E. Basically, Geoff's voice is amazing and Voiceplay overall deserves a lot more attention.
@toothless23234 жыл бұрын
10:00, he uses a vocalized lip buzz. If you lip buzz a note, let’s say E2, and then sing a B2, a fifth higher, an acoustic phenomenon will happen, called subharmonic. The result in pitch will be a vocalized lip buzz of E1. At the beginning it might be hard to coordinate but it is actually quite simple, and subharmonics can be done with the voice too to sing an octave lower. (Or add distortion, just like Freddie did).Relaxing the voice to a certain point, but not to vocal fry, will create a layer of fry on top of the chest voice per se. Now, this happens because one vocal chord flips one fifth higher. And so the result in pitch is one octave lower from the lowest original tone. E2+B2= E1 sub harmonic note. Which turns out to be how Geoff did the ending note. Vocalized subharmonics are harder to do, but after a few months they should start to work correctly. Usually it is a unique bassy sound and because of this, it is only the lower and lowest voices that can use their chest voice and then drop to subharmonics and make everything sound consistent. Usually tenors and sopranos have a limited low chest range and can’t disguise the subs per se, given that their chest voice is so high. Credits/ resources: David Larson
@Sgtcrazyeyes2353 жыл бұрын
I believe the way Geoff does it is the same way I figured out subharmonics where you fry a note and sing a chest note to add the fullness. You can do it because your false chords and your actual vocal chords can be used at the same time

Geoff recently released a solo cover of Tennessee Ernie Ford song called Sixteen Tons. Mr. Ford's version is the most famous. It came out in the 1950's. Definitely before your time. I remember hearing this song on the radio when I was a kid. As much as you enjoy low notes. I thought you might want to check out this rendition of a classic song. Stay safe Elizabeth.

@@nzcroc1229 Personal circumstances caused Earl to have to leave the group. It was an amicable split with no hard feelings on anyone's part. They're continuing on with just J, Eli, Layne, and Geoff. Though in my opinion they really aught to be trying to recruit Rachel Potter full-time.

Thanks for your comments. I just discovered Geoff. Your professional analysis added in so much information to appreciate this song. I knew I loved this video/song now I know why. Thanks for focusing on the others too. They provided depth (no pun intended) and texture without wouldn’t make Geoff sound as terrific.

9:46, there might me some inward liproll bass action going on from the beatboxer to add another layer of bass to the dubstep part. After the really low part lasting for about 1 sec, he exhales a lot after a snare to be able to breathe. It adds a really cool effect !
