YESSSS! Finally more Epica! More songs I think you'll enjoy: Stabat Mater Dolorosa, Unleashed, Design Your Universe (Retrospect concert preferred for these three), Essence of Silence, Once Upon a Nightmare, Tides of Time, Abyss of Time, Rivers and The Skeleton Key (these last three are from their latest album, so there are no official live performances). They have many more awesome songs, but these are a good start :P If you want a change of pace, Stabat Mater Dolorosa, Once Upon a Nightmare, Tides of Time and Rivers are mellower ones. PS. For a completely different kind of symphonic metal, I recommend Septicflesh. They also have an awesome live show with orchestra and choir. The guitarist studied orchestration in college and all songs are like an epic soundtrack to a horror movie. There might not be a lot for you to analyse voice wise because 90% of the vocals are growls. But if you're up for it, I highly recommend it! :)

Wow! I can't believe I missed this one. (I had health issues in August). Surprised that this is her first time seeing a mosh pit. Welcome to metal! I was very fortunate to get to see Epica o. The same tour when they stopped in Dallas. Simone Simons was even wearing the same dress. Great show, and because metal is not as big in the states, it was a much smaller venue, we were right behind the mosh pit. If you think the video performance is great, you should definitely see them live if you have the opportunity!

Awwww crap, I missed the premiere. I even had set a reminder for it smh 😭 I absolutely love Epica. Last time i saw them, in 2019, it was in a small, tiny almost, open-air theatre with a gorgeous setting sun behind them casting rays through the trees. Honestly one of if not thé best live settings I've had the pleasure to headbang to them. unfortunately not enough space for a proper pit, but the moshing was cozy af ☺️ That at the start is a "wall of death", if the folk are into it, the most fun way to kick off a mosh pit That "circle of doom" is commonly referred to as a "circle pit", but I like your name better. Another epic Dutch symphonic metal group is Delain, and I would absolutely love to see you react to "here come the vultures", or "we are the others"

This song and this performance is the best way to explain what epica is. Just Epic!

Epica really exemplify this kind of beauty-and-the-beast vocals, where the clean operatic voice trades the lead with the harsh growls. You'll probably also really like their track Storm the Sorrow, which has an awesome video. If you like this style you might also want to check out Mark's other band MaYaN; you'll recognise their singer Marcela Bovio from your Ayreon Valley of the Queens reaction.

I just recently discovered this channel and it's awesome. I love her authentic facial expressions throughout songs. I also appreciate how she is so positive about different genres and vocal sounds. I'm learning a lot and I'm able to appreciate "my type of music" even more and being exposed to new types as well. I'd love if she would do Tom Waits, especially something early and something more recent.

Symphony X - "When All Is lost" is a wonderful 9 minute long song of them, because it is soft and heavy, slow and fast, simple and complex. A wonderful song of them and definitely one of their top 10 songs. If anyone has a link to a good live version of this song it would be amazing. The studio version is really great and I could not find any live version which can at least come close to it in sound/ recording quality.

If you are in for some more Epica I really recommend 'Chasing The Dragon' There is a really fascinating video of a live performance (from Retrospect i think). The song itself is amazing in it's own right. But what makes the performance so special is the fact that concert was played with a full orchestra and they have a sort of ballet on ropes or something. So if you are in a bit of an artsy mood, defiantly worth the watch.

Yay, the copyright curse is hopefully gone for reactions to Epica. Yeah, Simone´s beautiful voice and then some gorgeous growling. :-D Since you mentioned the word "Mayan" in your description, it should be noted here that MaYaN is the name of Epica´s sister project with five vocalists in total. Namely: Marcela Bovio - the singer with red hair from your reaction to Valley of the Queens by Ayreon Laura Macri - an opera singer whose co-vocalists were Floor Jansen and Simone Simons in early days of MaYaN Mark Jansen - the growling guitarist on the left in this Epica´s performance George Oosthoek - the second growler Adam Denlinger/Henning Basse - clean and raspy vocals, fry-screaming

Finally Epica...! I am so happy :) I hope you enjoyed it, it is one of my fav symphonic metal bands (I was never fan of Nightwish, not because Floor, I liked Floor in her previous bands but not in Nightwish), there is also band called Mayan, both Epica and Mayan are projects of Mark Jansen, who also created After Forever (where Floor was singing), I recommend all these 3 bands :) Also in both Epica and Mayan you can listen to Marcela Bovio (I think you reacted on her in Ayreon before) :) Also there are a lots of great songs performed by Epica (this one is not the best for sure), I hope to hear more Epica/Mayan/Ayreon in Charismatic Voice, because symphonic metal is something I would love on this channel, maybe one day you will sing something like that too? :)

@@kirbys1370 thank you, yes, you are right, however I remember it was more like a ballad (I like the song anyway) and I think focus of the reaction was more on Floor than on Simone ;) this song is heavier and Mark is singing (or growling) :) but yes, you are right, if I am correct Simone was also in Ayreon here? not sure, for sure Marcela was here, but I would love to see reaction with focus mainly on Simone/Mark, then Marcela or maybe even Cammie from Oceans of Slumber (she was in Ayreon too) :) oh and Floor in After Forever would be nice, I don't think it is well known band as people know her from Nightwish mainly?

Yes Elizabeth, you got the names wrong :)) They bald keyboardist is Coen Janssen. Mark Jansen is the guy who did the most growls. He is the founder, the main composer and rhythm guitarist. He does both, death metal growls and black metal screams. Isaac is a lead guitarist. He helped out Mark with growls here, so yes, there were actually two growlers. Right after that crazy fast black metal part, when you heard the deeper growls, that was Isaac. Almost everything else was Mark.

I'm a 58 y/I m. I spent much of my late teens and most of my 20s throwing knees and elbows in front of more bands than I can remember, many of whom are still filling stadiums. Lots of other bands are only memories now but most left various studio or live recordings that can give a sense of what it was like. The martial art that is 'mosh' has evolved. It seems more formalized now, back then it was a free for all and every man for himself. It was also a place women were smart enough not to go. It's been a long time since I crowd surfed or stage dove and I'm not going back in unless I have a deathwish. A new mom like you probably doesn't want to think about your precious boy in one of these but in 15 years or so, given the environment he will be growing up in and considering your predilection for cosplay with various fantasy weapons and such, it does seem likely he'll want to test himself in a moshpit or 30. It's a rite of passage and every drop of blood is a badge of honor. It's a way to get in tune with your inner Klingon and also very cathartic. Some martial arts training between now and then is probably in order, with that he'll know how to avoid or absorb whatever blows land on him. What awaits him is something I doubt I would survive, were I foolish enough to do it again. But then, as Danny Glover said in Lethal Weapon, "I'm too old for this s*#t." (lots of other movies used this line too). Enough blather from me! Remember Elizabeth, these people are doing it for fun. Regarding fire safety onstage, ask James Hetfeild. He has first hand knowledge of what can go wrong. 🤘💪🤘✌️🖖
