It is impossible to pick a song to start someone out on, equally impossible to choose an album. There are very few artist you can say that about. Good rule of thumb in my 30yrs of experience is none of them. One note, a single reverb trail, and i know who im listening to immediately. I also don't know of a single band in all of the history of rock and metal that only ever got better with every album. The entirety of modern metal would not be what it currently is without meshuggah, and then tesseract. And just like the metalcore days, we're all gonna come out of these days with only a couple legendary acts in our pockets.

His work with Haji’s Kitchen was awesome. It is a Texas-based progressive/groove metal band with a very limited and sporadic discography, probably best known for featuring on the US Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan soundtrack. He did vocals on their most recent album Twenty Twelve, and it was great stuff. I’m not sure whether they still exist in any meaningful sense, but they hade some really great tracks like Day After Day, Lost, Notch, Just Like Me, Face Down, Nocturnus, and Define the Lie. The first three were recorded with both their previous vocalist and Tompkins and both versions are great in their own way.
