We're running a kickstarter to help fund vocal research, and Travis Ryan has joined us as one of the premiere harsh vocalists for this study. And I'm stoked. And he's stoked. And I've never heard a full song of his, and his sound. So, let's dive in to what everyone has told me is THE Pioneer of many of Deathcore's sounds today!

One of my favorite things about Travis's sound is that it grew ( in very large part) in the context of live experimentation. There's an interview, I can't remember where, and he talks about how he often would mess around live and perform sections entirely different from how they were done on the record just to see what his voice could do. I love the surgical precision of modern vocalists, but the rough yet refined qualities that Travis has carry so much nuance. It's awesome.

When I first heard the Ben Duerr signature sound, I was attached immediately, you know the open lows that sound huge. That one goes very well on melancholy and elegy with the dark themes of the albums. I think the instrumentals will appeal to her better as well. The new singles are closer to deathcore. not only have i been subbed to this channel and what you're doing since before jinjer, to watch the metamorphosis into you truly becoming and APPRECIATING the level that harsh metal vocals are at. Believe me or don't, but i've been saying since 2003 that "our" vocals are not only ... 1. a legitimate display of mastery of vocal control and range 2. (here's the big one) if you can even come close to vocals of that range and tone and brutality, night after night...world class! 3. if you can sing these vocal arrangement's than you legitimately can sing anything. 4. side note...people that are scared of this music cannot even comprehend the fact that before even trying to understand them, we view them as a "lead" PERCUSION aspect that, without that layer, the music would be lacking BUT....a display, leading aspect of passion and the depth this music can take you to, if you're willing to go

So glad you're listening to a band like Cattle Decap now. I think a few years ago you might not have been able to appreciate the training/practice and hard work that goes into being able to make this kind of music. I'm personally not the biggest Cattle fan (no reason, just never got into their stuff) but I appreciate how much respect they get in the wider Metal community. If you're a Metalhead for any good amount of years, you've probably at least heard of this band's name.

Even his basic mid range gutteral voice sounds unique as can be. Normally nobody even tries to be unique in that range. Amazing!

I love Cattle and had a chance to see them live back in 2015. So happy you are working with Travis. My favorite thing about the band (other than just how awesome the melody singing is) is that you can understand like 75% of what he's saying even without the lyric sheet. This is exciting!

Cattle Decapitation!! I remember the first time I ever heard this band. The song playing was Bring Back The Plague from their album Death Atlas. I was vibing with how chaotic it was and then the 'sing scream' vocals started with the line "Every body a host, every body infected" and when that section of the song ended I had to go back and relisten to it. It completely blew me away, I'd never heard something like that be done before in metal and I've been hooked ever since. I had the pleasure of meeting Travis and the rest of the band last year when they did their Australian tour, I met them in Adelaide and got some pics with Travis. He's a genuinely nice guy, and funny as! So glad to see Cattle getting even more recognition, they truly are something else. Thank you for this video, brought me to tears ha!

Aside from his insane control over his distortion, the thing that impresses me the most about Travis is his enunciation. It’s relatively easy to understand what he’s singing which not many metal vocalists can do.

For me, I'd always heard of Cattle Decap, but they didn't stand out to me... UNTIL I heard Travis doing the melodic screams. Then, he became my favourite vocalist, because it's so unique. I've heard melodic lows from Gojira's vocalist and pitched screams, but these melodic highs Travis is doing are insane!

At about 18 minute mark you were wondering how the implementation of more melodic parts affected Cattle Decap's popularity and at least for me it's the big part of why I became a big fan of them. If their music was just like the first couple of minutes of this song I wouldn't like them all that much. They would be just another death core/whatever band out there. But the melodic parts are so masterfully done and bring a wonderful and beautiful contrast to the brutality that it's so magical. In this song especially. The melody, lyrics and Ryan's delivery of the chorus works so well with the melodic guitars behind him. Such a good song.

When he first added that 'clean' singing a lot of people hated it, but it adds so much diversity to the songs. Travis just keeps on adding more tricks to his already immense arsenal and it gets better and better still.

I have been a fan of them since the very beginning and Travis Ryan is simply the best Death vocalist in all areas... When he started to do his brand of singing I always thought it sounded like a Transformer singing lol very robotic... Then years later he is personally asked by The Transformer corporation to do voice over for the new line of toys they put out and Travis does the voice of Unicron and others and its awesome!!

I'm so excited to watch this. I was watching your videos analyzing slaughter to prevail and was thinking about what screaming lyricists I'd wish you'd analyze and though cattle decap. That tgought was instantly follwed by "Yea... That'll never happen. They're a little TOO out there. I doubt enough people would recommend she check them out, and even then, their name will likely turn her off from them to the point she won't listen." BUT HERE WE ARE. OH MAN I'M SO READY FOR THIS. This dudes vocals are wheewwwwwwww. 16:08 - YES! The moment I was waiting for! Love your reaction and analysis of this part. THOSE are his master-trick. Those vocals right there are why he is so renouned. The bizzare and AWESOME mixing of screaming with true melody is bar-none. Dude is one of the GOAT. How you said it changed your view of the whole song... It almost adds an odd feeling of intelligence to the whole thing. It leans us into taking it more seriously. Ugh. So fucking good.
