Stephanie and LaLanders - thank you for today's sweet vlog. It's been a difficult day for me & my son, as it's the 40th anniversary of my first husband's death. He was 31, I was 28, and our little boy was 2 & 1/2 years old. My son, Nick, loved Jerrold's Scottish antics as he planted flowers. What an uplifting experience for us to help heal our broken spirits today. Bless you all!!! XOXOXO

If you find yourself with an extra head of cabbage at some point, drill a hole through it, run a rope through that (knotted at one end or tied around a stick or something to keep it from coming all the way through) and suspend it just above chicken head height in their pen. They'll spend hours batting it around and pecking at it for a nibble. It'll keep them amused, and makes a decent enrichment activity.
@ruthsanchez97242 жыл бұрын
The chickens will have a ball with all their new toys. The planting is just gorgeous and will be truly amazing when all done. What a fun day and with Gerald arriving and other friends it is a wonderful day!!! Love Gerald's chats with the plants ;). He has been missed!!

If you want a broody hen, you have to leave the eggs & not collect them! Leave at least a weeks worth. Usually they lay 13 eggs then they sit. You will need to put food & water nearby, as the hen won't want to leave the eggs for long. You may also need to put the non - broody hens in another house while the hen is brooding. Be aware that if a hen goes broody & gets disturbed, she will go & find somewhere to brood where it's quiet, so you may think she's vanished Some breeds are more likely to go broody - such as Marrans, which are French originally. Marrans are the speckly hens.
@flibbertygibbette2 жыл бұрын
Silkies are famously broody and are often kept just for that!
@debrarobinson572 жыл бұрын
Wow, thank you! I didn't know that. I have had a few Marrans which all went broody. I did think the gorgeous little hen shown in the vlog looked like she was sitting - I was a bit concerned by the interfereance to her. I know that was in no way on purpose, but due to lack of knowledge. As you are obviously a more experienced hen keeper than me, perhaps you could offer Stephanie some advice? I'm sure she would be thrilled, as she is keen to learn. We were all newbie keepers once - I got lots of hints & tips from friends. Xx

If you put some packing tape on the chicken zylaphone over the metal plates with the sticky side out, and stick some sunflower seeds on the tape, the chickens will peck at the seeds and learn to make music! Enjoy!

Get yourself an auger drill bit for your cordless drill to plant with, ten times faster! Also, planting in drifts, like plants naturally grow in nature will give your garden a better finish. I wish that you would use the stumps as an architectural element in the woodland park, like the stumpery at Highgrove House.

The plants would look better when clumped together in “drifts” of colour rather than spotted around individually. They usually have a tag that explains how far or close to place them. The heuchera will not get much bigger but can be split and propagated next year.
