This time period had such beautiful games! I’ve noticed in many cases, such as this one, many impressive games are played between relatively unknown and/or under-appreciated players. Imagine all of the undocumented chess brilliance throughout history that we may never witness.

It should be mentioned that this Variation only works that nicely and smoothly because of the very fact that there is no Queen's Knight, which makes it easy to swing the Queen's Rook over...try to play this move order WITH the Queen's Knight on the board - chances are you will be slightly embarrassed, to say the least. Janowski most likely knew this or could anticipate that, due to having gotten plenty of experience playing the Double Muzio which was highly popular back then, it would be fairly easy for him to forsee the outcome of this encounter.

@@Secret_Sun33 To answer your first question: I don't know, I don't think so. I guess it's possible but I have never consciously met a time traveler, so I couldn't say or tell the difference. Second question: To fully understand what the Double Muzio Gambit is, I suggest you read the Wikipedia article on the Muzio Gambit. Third question: I don't have intimate knowledge of that time period. I simply started to look into that game and that particular Variation, and so I arrived at my opinion. But I was interrupted by something and would have to start over in order to arrive at the same or a different conclusion.

Very good. I found out years ago with a hand held chess games, those ones you put in a docking station on the chessboard where the squares light up so you push the square with the piece and push the square where it moves to, I found they very greedy so if you have a good strategy and willing to sacrifice your pieces, the computer will take them if there's no obvious possibilities of check mate so I found a similar method of sacrificing all my pieces, queen included to get into a good position and then end up check mating the king with a pawn. I watched the games between the 2 chess engines on GothamChess, Leela vs Stockfish and how Leela pushed that pawn to use it at the end. Brilliant! There's no way I'd ever beat those chess engines but Leela reminded me of how I beat those hand held chess games and once you beat them they repeat the same moves so then they become redundant after that. I don't know what the ELO rating they are but sacrificing for position is their weakness. This was a good game to watch 👍
