Yeah, perfect example of a special moment with someone and how they were able to share it with so many of us to make it more special. We all compromise in some way, shape, or form until we cant any longer. The genius is rising to the occasion to part ways with class. They basically said even a successful music career cannot mend this break they have. I think people cannot understand that and that's why people have to make it so scandalous by saying it was an affair or something deceitful.

Why did they actually break up?
@Vanadah Жыл бұрын
I read on Reddit from someone claiming they knew them in person was because Joy felt overshadowed by JP and felt heldback, wanted to go solo, but JP wanted to continue being a duo as it was successful compared to his solo years. Different ambitions, lots of bitterness, and ended up splitting. Also the person claimed the whole being together was an act they enjoyed, their spouses knew of the act too.

@@mcharleymiller1291 I'm a huge fan and have watched, read, and listened to everything I can get my hands on. From what I have gathered every source swears it was "differences of ambition" blah blah blah. My theory is that one or both of them developed feelings and they had to shut the band down to keep their marriages. JP especially seemed really dedicated to his wife when he thanked her during their last Grammy speech (where Joy was noticeably absent). He also didn't thank Joy at all which seemed so odd. Like could you really hate someone so much over differences of ambition? Although I have seen in interviews where JP and Joy talk about being "opposites" of each other. I also saw another interview where there was awkward tension and Joy "joked" about negatives coming into her life when she met JP. JP also said in an interview once that "If people spent 5 min with them -they'd realize they are NOT a couple". Joy also mentioned on a podcast she signed an NDA when they broke up. But maybe that is standard procedure when a band breaks up these days? While I do feel there was some element of romance between them I can only guess on to what extent. The only pinch of information I found alluding to a romantic relationship was in Joy's NPR where she says this, " But I do think that that was something that could be confusing, both for the audience and for me at times" in regards to marketing themselves to look like a couple. While this is really really vague she clearly states the lines between pretend and reality got blurred for her at least. Lastly, I want to add the disclaimer my theory is only my theory and I could be totally wrong. Maybe it's possible they are simply great at acting and looking in love with each other to pull the audience in? If so, it clearly worked on me. Anyway. I love talking about this band so thanks for asking :) They were my fav band and I am still mourning their split, but at least we still have the music they made even if there will never be any new material from them.

While the music is phenomenal, the video makes me so very sad. You can feel the tension between them. This isn't acting for the video. You can see the true emotion in their eyes. If you look at all of their earlier recordings the dynamics between them were completely different than what is presented here. They would smile at each other, they would interact playfully, there was a twinkle in their eyes, they actually LIKED each other. Clearly in this video stress and discord is abundant and sadly you can see the broken bond. So terribly sad that such an amazing duo had to part ways. But I want to thank them for what they have given us, it was their legacy in their time. God Bless them both for whatever the future holds.

so true. you can feel the tension in the room with them...it almost brought me to tears for them. you can tell how real and raw these words and their emotions were still for them while making this video. i don't know how they did it. i would love to meet them in person. they seem like very strong people, it takes a very strong person to sing that openly for the sake of the music and still giving it all the passion of your soul like they do. amazingly beautiful.

I think that may have been the tip of the iceberg, but I think it was more complex than that, way more. Something that is between them, that I'm sure we will never know. Whether they were truly in love or it was just their onstage chemistry, there's no denying that this video is emotionally manipulative. If they are just "acting" as they have implied for the video,then they are not only amazing vocalists...but also should consider a career in acting lol Their body language and the way they look into eachothers eyes an pull each other in ...The real reason for the split was that the two of them are married with families....and before it had gone too far (if it already hadn't) they called the whole thing off .I'm sure there was a strong urging from each of their spouses as well on the subject as well, you would have to be blind not to see what was happening here...really a shame, they made truly beautiful music together..

So many nights and tears with this song. The best duo singers I ever heard, so pity they will never come to my country as "The Civil Wars". Regards from Poland.

Beauty is chaotic times, wish they would rejoin their compatibility is remarkable the unison of their voices is why they'll always be a great "what if" combination of Nashville gold and everyday gold that few crossovers will ever glimpsed in the modern country genre. Reuniting would be atleast a cashgrab if thats all your after but the beauty of the collection of your voices would be worth it id you could regain whay you had

Such a hybrid of great genres. It really is hard to put on any other artist after hearing these 2. It's like, wow...something great is going down here. Finally!

I miss 2013. Music was music. I miss waking up in the morning to mtv and vh1 morning videos and how it soothed my soul. I felt comfortable then. I dont like being attacked by the govt for no reason 😢

Seriously how can anyone DISLIKE this video, this song, this band!?!?! It blows my mind that there are people who can't see the magic that happened here, even with how they ended...

This video is so beautiful but eerie. I’m honestly surprised they released it. The nature of the song perfectly reflects what is apparent in the video. The tension between them is crazy and there is an apparent rift between them as well. Perhaps the two of them really do wish they were the “one who got away” 😥😥
