@TheRealBobHickman2 жыл бұрын
Don't underestimate the savings. I worked on a product where we re-designed the cardboard insert for a the retail box that was a difference of around a penny per unit, but saved us well over a million in total. Scale is everything. So as annoying as it is for us end users, I understand why this is done. I'm sure we'd all be willing to pay a little bit more for long term reliability, but there's incredible pressure to stay under a specific price, and every fraction of a penny if a huge impact on your profits.

If you think this is a lot of failures for a new console, then clearly you weren't around for the Xbox 360 / PS3 era, or even the initial PS4 / Xbox One era. Both of these new consoles seem a LOT more reliable than their previous two generations.
@kdmcollectables75762 жыл бұрын
This is accurate. Having directly experienced sales of 3 generations from launch of console, this is absolutely nowhere near 1st gen 360 levels of issues, not even close. We have had one ps5 issue from 200+ sold. Dualsense analogues higher though. Especially drift. But not JoyCon drift levels of returns! The 'higher' repair % is likely due to higher sale levels of ps5 to Xbox Series X (especially if pulling Series S from equation) thus you'd see more ps5s. Switch failure returns are higher for us than any console we sell.
