BTW Hall of Gemstone affects everyone at the same time. If I pick red on my turn, everyone else can only tap for red as well. The big consequence of this is that you can shut of the vast majority of counterspells on your turn by picking anything other than blue.

Soldier of the pantheon (this dude is so good and overlooked, both blocking and gaining you life). Weathered wayfarer Quest for ula's temple (so much potential for just 1 single mana) Kruphix, God of Horizons (mah boy has the mana to cast those juicy BIG eldrazi) Angelic accord (it is soooo easy to abuse this thing each turn) Celestial force (Nobody wants to waste removal on this. Meanwhile, you get a bazillion life) Minds dilation (chaos at its finest, this thing is incredibly ridiculous) Tuktuk scraper, Hagra diabolist, Halimar excavator (these guys look horrible on their own, but on a tribal ally deck, they can ABSOLUTELY kill an opponent or mill somone out. My favorite card to play and has ALWAYS been incredibly great whenever I get it onto the field is Vodalian Illusionist. The card is 2 and a blue for a 2/2 merfolk wizard with the activated abilitiy of 2 and a blue and tap it to phase out target creature. Thanks to Teferi's Protection I think a lot more people understand phasing which has made this creature a lot easier to use, but I've been able to use this for so many flexible effects. You can use it before your upkeep to phase out a Sheoldred so you don't have to sacrifice your creatures, you can use it in response to someone targeting one of your creatures to phase that creature out, or you can even phase out one of your creatures in response to someone targeting your equipment or auras, and you can use it's ability on itself if it's the target of removal, or even to save an important creature in response to a board wipe. I first started using it when I built my Kumena deck with the intent to protect my commander, but since seeing how amazing it was there, it's become a staple in any of my decks running blue.

I love that you guys brought up Hall of Gemstone! That's been in my mono-green deck since day one and it's so good at slowing or even locking down opponents, and most can't even play their commander. Another cool thing about hall of gemstone is that since you are most likely playing it in mono green, you don't have a lot of good instant speed interaction, other than pump spells, and you are very susceptible counter spells and removal, hall of gemstone can protect you from that stuff during your turn, because if you choose green, that affects all lands, so then your opponents can't play mana drain, swords to plowshares, cyclonic rift, etc. on your turn, and it really protects you a lot.

My favorite little blue creature is Reef Shaman. For one blue it provides color fixing for yourself, but it's even better at denying your opponents a color or a utility land for their turn. In the early game it can easily set an opponent back a few turns, and politically it can be used to help allies. Even better when you can untap it.

I do not know how frequent it is, or even if it's "good", but I love the card beastmaster ascension
@sethb30906 жыл бұрын
Sans enchantment removal, Beastmaster Ascension takes over games. I'm not sure I've ever lost a game where I turned it on and kept it in play. Favorite combo: BMA + Cultivator of Blades + Rapacious One. Cultivator adds its P/T to other creatures when it attacks, Rapacious One is 5/4 trample and makes Eldrazi Spawn for each damage it deals to the player. BMA pumps Cultivator's pump to +8/+8 AND pumps Rapacious One +5/+5, so R1 is hitting as an 18/17 and all the trample damage that gets through makes 5/6 tokens that will be buffed to 13/14 on the next swing if cultivator survived.

-Early Harvest (only useful I'd say in mono-green or two colored, as adding colors tends to reduce basics. But untapping all Basics is great) -Rapid Hybridization/Pongify -Verdant Confluence (Not as all-around useful as Mystic, though the modes are Rampant Growth, Nature's Spiral, or put two +1/+1 counters on a creature) -Any of the Fork spells (Fork, Reverberate, etc.) Able to turn CycRift into a full boardwipe, able to leech off of green's ramp, black tutor's, etc. See an instant or sorcery you would like for yourself, you can get it. Mono-Red runs them a bit more, but once Red gets a color, Fork effects often seem to be among the first to drop. -Life's Finale (A lot of people want their wipes low cost, but for 2 you essentially add Buried Alive targeting any player with a Damnation (without the can't be regenerated, but I find that inconsequential most the time) -Command Beacon (Its not always amazing, and its a utility... but I find it particularly useful for higher cmc commander's/commanders that will be targeted and removed multiple times to have an untaxed cast. Added bonus for decks that can play lands from the graveyard) -Voidslime/Disallow. I'm don't tend to be super heavy on my counterspell count in decks, and I'll often sub out Counterspell for Disallow, due to its versatility on being able to counter abilities or spells. Do such things as countering a Planeswalker Ult or Emrakul the Promised Ends cast trigger (it itself cannot be counterspelled, but you can prevent them from taking your next turn and messing up your gameplan)

I don't like this weird "social contract" stuff. Land destruction is a logical response to a powerful strategy. I think it's very lame that people build lands decks and think their strategy deserves to be protected by arbitrary rules.
@Itryhardder6 жыл бұрын
I agree my playgroup plays land destruction cards, the only rule we have is to have a way to win on board first, also with all the blue its likely to not resolve. My buddy has an Olivia Voldaren deck that he packed every targeted land destruction spell into, he often cripples the blue players and then destroys all the lands with Olivia out and just wins on the spot. One thing I think is way douchier is targeted hand removal such as Mind Shatter or Mind Twist, hands are sacred lands are not!
@TheCommanderDojo6 жыл бұрын
I agree, nothing is sacred in Commander. I'm not a fan of this "social contract"/ "spirit of the format" stuff. People can't ever learn to combat LD if they never face it. It helps make people better Magic players
@Eramiserasmus6 жыл бұрын
I'm the one who introduced LD into our Commander and Modern playgroups. Because of that, our Modern Tron player regularly beats Ponza, our overall mana curves in decks have dropped and people are less inclined to play mass removal in case its followed up with Armageddon and a haste creature. We've learned how to play through hard locks and create bizarre wins through sheer tenacity. That's why people need to be ready for it.

Also, DJ is completely right. The spellshapers are hella underrated. Turn your dead draws into value. Avenger en-Dal: Swords to Plowshares an attacking creature. Balloon Peddler: Give any creature flying til end of turn. Cackling Witch: Howl From Beyond Dawnstrider: Fog Devout Witness: Disenchant Diplomatic Escort: hard counter against anything targeting a creature Dreamscape Artist: Harrow Harvest Mage: mana fixing Latulla, Keldon Overseer: Fireball Netter en-Dal: one turn Pacifism Notorious Assassin: Terror Overtaker: Act of Treason Seismic Mage: Stone Rain Stronghold Biologist: Essence Scatter Stronghold Machinist: Negate Undertaker: Raise Dead Urborg Syphon Mage: all opponent life drain Waterfront Bouncer: Unsummon

My Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain deck use vehicle as it main theme, so I use deadeye quartermaster. The card is great mainly because it search for equipment or a vehicle. Also there is a card I only use in my Hallar, The Firefletcher deck. The card called Saproling Infestation. In a one cororless, one green enchanment, that states when a player a kicker cost; they make a one one green saproling token. The kicker has a lot cards you don't see much in EHD in general. Have a great week DJ and Josh.

One I haven't seen very often is Word of Seizing. Especially if you're a mono red deck, having a split second card to interrupt the stack is super useful and it's take control of ANY permanent!!!

Its not one card but I absolutely LOVE shoving these four token cards into every green deck I can; Ulvenwald Mysteries, Tireless Tracker, Briarbridge Patrol, and Tamiyo's Journal. Big two are the journal and the patrol. Sack three clues with journal to tutor ANY card at instant speed which triggers Briarbridge Patrol's second line and put whatever creature you want from your hand onto the battlefield. Tracker fuels the Journal and Mysteries builds you an army fast. It is fairly slow but tacking it into a deck with Parallel Lives, Doubling Season, etc makes this synergy incredible.

I used killing wave in my rakdos, lord of riots deck. Very unassuming kill spell but can put in some work.

Just a few off the top of my head: Skullwinder (cheap eternal witness and lets u make a deal with an opponent to get a card that he won't use against you or a card that can't hurt you) Commit//Memory (can pretty much deal with everything at least for now and most likely for the rest of the game if u cast the Memory part) Insidious Will (too much flexibility) Royal Assassin (discourages attacks and certain abilities) Riptide Shapeshifter (cheating specific a creature to play from library) Archetype of Imagination & Stormtide Leviathan (evasion and/or disables attacks against you) Hellkite Tyrant (instead of dedicating slots in your deck for mana rocks u play this) Intrepid Hero ( to make people attack with their huge creatures others) Gift of Immortality (commander protection or abusing sac& etbs) Imprison in the Moon (cause it's blue removal duh!) Gideon's intervention and Ixalan's Binding (alternative or additional Nevermores if u want to be mean) Time Stop/Counterflux/Summary Dismissal (when the stack gets too confusing) Silence (when u want everyone to pay full attention to u and what u are doing instead of their hands coz let's be honest your next play is gonna be FABULOUS!)
@levithompson11616 жыл бұрын
Kyle Savage Ixalan's Binding doesn't work like nevermore. Since putting your commander in the command zone is a replacement effect, no card is actually exiled and therefore the enchantment doesn't stop it from being cast.

Oh you are right my bad. Now let's hope my friends won't find out about it :P

@PhantomMarth6 жыл бұрын
I've mentioned these couple before but In my opinion I find these amazing to play: -Artificial Evolution: Changing the creature type ON the stack (spell) or the PERMANENT...any is strong. Its niche however it's a card most wouldn't know and can turn most powerful when attached to a I.Scepter. -Seedtime: In a green/ heavy creature based deck that can't afford the white to play DL. Dromoka (due to mono green or non white variants) can give a player behind that boost or maybe a player in simic another extra turn that's CMC less than 5 which means you can snap it back easier or I. Scepter it for cheesey plays!

I'm playing a Queen Marchesa curses deck. It's filled with a lot of hatestuff that starts piling up over time and it chokes opponents that can't get over the pillowfort. Some of my favorites: - Painful Quandary - Tainted Remedy - Price of Knowledge - all the expensive curses (Overwhelming Splendor + Curse of Death's Hold COMBO)

So I came across a land that I now put in every single deck I have now. It's Tower of the Magistrate. Taps for colorless but also can tap to give target creature protection from artifacts. Hitting a voltron commander with that in response to them equipping or to protect your creature from an opponent's ability. It's so good in this format filled with different artifacts!

There is a fun hidden mode on Proteus Staff, which is activating it targeting your own commander, a token, or a man-land that you control when you have a creatureless deck. Lets you stack it however you want.

Polluted Bonds in Golgari decks, is a favorite of mine. The Ramp from Green helps it drop earlier; then you use it with cards like Veteran Explorer, or Collective Voyage. It's also fun to see how people react that situation. Do they get lands, take damage and help you gain life, or do they put themselves behind you and anyone who opts to get the lands.
@Thaliathetree6 жыл бұрын
Elixir of Immortality is a staple in like 8 of my 9 decks. Its best in my Breya deck, but when I started playing Commander everyone back home ran it. When I moved for college and I came here, everyone was surprised to see it. But they now are seeing the value and it’s fun.

Disrupt Decorum: I have it in my Daretti Artifact deck. In a game where I could play Daretti's ultimate on my next turn, I know he will not survive repeated attacks from my opponent's creatures... Unless they have to attack other players. Watching your opponents wanting to desperately attack your planeswalker and having to attack the other players, it's a very satisfying play to make when you get the opportunity to do.

Tower of the magistrate - (for preventing people putting on boots) Soltari Visionary - (unblockable enchantment removal) Soltari Guerilla - (unblockable direct damage on a creature) Erratic Portal / Crystal Shard - return your things or an opponents commander who taps out rebuff the wicked / withering boon . - Color shifted protection / counter nobody expects

Tomorrow, Azami's Familiar is something I've grown to love since I threw it into an Animar deck. Stops yourself from getting killed by nekusaur and basically let's you pick and choose the best of the cards coming up. Also, stops you from getting milled if you can protect it.
@dancook61146 жыл бұрын
Nature's will is amazing and really overlooked. At a base level what it cam do is let you use all your mana to cast big stuff then you hit someone and you now also have mana up for interaction on other peoples turns or just dump even more stuff onto the board. However what it also does is allow a deck that has what it needs to combo off and win the ability to shut off the control player so they dont have any mana to stop you winning the game in your second main phase. Very versatile and also starting to creep up in price so get one now!!
@PiroMunkie6 жыл бұрын
If you have people who love to play mostly artifacts, the enchantment Hum of Radix is a particularly humorous meta call. Makes each artifact spell cost (1) more for each artifact that player controls. Bonus points if their commander is an artifact creature.
@Jedibob56 жыл бұрын
Dark Prophecy is a personal favorite of mine for black-based creature strategies. It's great at letting you bounce back from board wipes. If they kill all your creatures, you reload your hand! As with most of black's "power at a price" stuff you have to keep an eye on your life total, but if you draw enough cards off Dark Prophecy for that to matter, you'll probably win the game soon anyway.

Oracle's Vault, Lapse of Certainty, Tamiyo's Journal, Mechanized Production, Wayward Swordtooth. Barely see these anywhere except my side of the table and they are just sneaky good, especially the first three

My fave underrated card is a very simple one: Seedguide ash That card is Criminally underplayed. The fact it can grab non-basic forests is monumental. It's still tolerable stats for a 5 drop, and 3 lands is a nice bump. And there are enough decks that sac stuff that it should be played. It is by far my most played green card, and I run it over e-wit. Let me repeat: i would rather cut e-wit, an insanely versatile card that can grab me any number of things back, over seedguide.
@chrisbedrin36186 жыл бұрын
I love Seedguide Ash. I run it in my Zacama Super Ramp deck (along with Temur Sabertooth which is mentioned in the video). I don't know if I'd just auto-include it in any deck with green, but there are some where it's just amazing.
@krvys72266 жыл бұрын
If you are running dual and/or shock lands, it becomes very viable in 3+ colours. If you cant afford those, I would say they are not worth running in 3+ colour decks. But mono green, and 2 colour, I find it a super valuable tool. It's in a very good sweet spot for decks like pod and sneak attack also. (And yes, I would sneak attack this thing in, even if it doesnt attack or block, cause the raw ramp is that good)
@chrisbedrin36186 жыл бұрын
If you can't afford original duals or shocks, this is still viable (albeit potentially slower) with the BFZ battle lands and the Amonkhet bicycle lands which are all under 5 bucks each making them good budget options for 3+ color decks where you want your ramp to get you multiple colors.
@krvys72266 жыл бұрын
Chris Bedrin true. Only reason I didn't mention those ones is we only have 5 of each, rather than the full cycle of 10.
