The top dietitians in the United States have always had corrupt relationships with food corporations, so it's not surprising that this trend has continued into the "dietitians" of TikTok. Will we ever learn from our past?

As a Dietitian I can say that a majority of dietitians are incentivized to do and say what Big Food says. We’re also taught things like seed oils are healthy and animal products are unhealthy. MONSANTO is saving the world with GMOs. Alcohol is “heart” healthy. Which is ironic because the biochemistry and organic chemistry classes we take teach us the opposite of that only in a way that requires thought rather than just being told what to believe and say. You can lose your national registration if you give advice that goes against what they say. Not all dietitians are bad, mostly they are just brainwashed and/or scared to go against Big Food. National registries are a difficult topic because they do protect people by making sure that not just anyone can call themselves something (doctor, paramedic,dietitian) but at the same time it can and is use to control professionals by threatening them with losing their jobs. I could talk about this all day and I’m so glad to see you bring attention to this Brett.

Everybody keeps saying seed oils are the devil and then I ask for proof and HOW it's bad, like specifically what does it do in your body and how and why, that makes it bad and I never get an answer. I get regurgitated shit from one guy who had a financial incentive to demonize it, and other places that sold supplements. It's very reminiscent of 1990 when they went on a rampage against lard and tallow. I remember that and it's the same thing. I have yet to get a real, scientific, proven answer. So until then, I'll continue to use them. Also real sugar and HFCS isnt the devil either. Same goes for that and the only respectable answer I get is its harmful in large amounts (anything is) and diabeetus. But if youre not a diabetic or pre diabetic, you don't need to avoid it entirely.

It's a selling point and people who think it means anything outside of synthetic pesticides, is being taken for a financial ride. I know a girl who claims she's allergic to anything not organic. That she has to eat organic. She didn't mention anything about pesticides. She went on a GMO rant. Like, I feel so sorry for her husband who has to buy her food.

This is why I will never shame someone for being overweight/obese. I was born in the 70s and I CLEARLY remember the push toward replacing butter with margarine, lard with shortening, using canola oil and other seed oils, switching to low-fat or fat-free dairy, etc etc AS THE HEALTHIER OPTION. Our parents didn't know any better. We didn't know any better. Government agencies intentionally and systematically created an unhealthy society and now it is DAMN hard to get out of that mindset.

You make a valid point but people who are told these things and refuse to lose weight and change their lifestyle should still be shamed. Just because you eat seed oils doesn’t mean you’re automatically going to turn obese. I ate tons of seed oils as a kid and still occasionally have them (yes ik they’re bad) yet my weight and physique are great because I still workout and eat very clean inside the home. People are more incentivized and sensitive to obesity but that doesn’t mean it’s completely out of their control to stay healthy

I counted calories, i até everything diet light whole, did exercise and never lost weight. I always até very little, so i was actually starving myself daily and never got rid of that 20kg i needed. She preaches to eat like old times, like our grandmas. Vegetables, meat as much as you want, little to almost no industrialized food and lots of natural fats - like butter and meat fat. I lost 10kg already and if help me god ill get rid of the other 10 soon. (By the way 10kg is like 20 pounds). By the way, Brett, the carcinogenic implications of aspartame are highly suspect. The way people do cancer risk is generally pretty associative. So it takes a LOT of association and studies that factor out other risk factors in order to determine carcinogenic properties. I don't know what risk factors were balanced out in the aspartame studies people have done, but, for example, people that drink diet soda are more likely to overweight. If you drink a lot of soda, it might be because you eat a lot of fast food. So saying aspartame is bad for you is possible, but not confirmed by the evidence.

One bit of advice I got was that there is no sugar substitute that’s actually healthier than sugar. Whether that’s directly because of the substance itself, or how much of that substance must be used to compare to the taste of sugar, it’s a general rule that sugar is your best option. Of course, some sugars are worse than others, and it’s obviously better to just avoid excess sugar as much as possible. However, aspartame is noteworthy in that it’s actually a safe sugar alternative for diabetics.
@owlblocksdavid4955
@owlblocksdavid4955 6 ай бұрын
@@DannyDevitoOffical-TrustMeBro I guess my point is, that while I don't know that those people are wrong, I'm suspicious of that claim. Honestly, anytime anyone talks about food and nutrition, I'm suspicious. Whenever someone tells me good news with regards to health, I'm skeptical, because there's generally more incentive to say that something you like (in this case sugar) isn't as bad as something you don't (artificial sweeteners, as most people agree diet soda doesn't taste as good). Now, there's also good news if you say that as artificial sweeteners are fine, because you can eat them and not get fat, so there's certainly incentive in both directions, so that's why I'm suspicious of both sides.

@@owlblocksdavid4955 So theres been multiple studies on both aspertame and sucralose being carsinagentic to mice in extreme amounts as in close to 1000 times the average serving found in diet soda. So I wouldnt say its healthy but as youve said theres no evidence that it has harmful effects on humans yet. If you have a problem with regularly drinking high calorie drink like soda it could be a good idea to switch to diet variation to aid in weight loss and reduce chance of diabetes, chd and other lifestyle diseases which are the leading causes of preventable deaths after smoking.

My least favorite dietician is Abbey Sharp. She's very condescending and criticizes anyone who calls food "unhealthy" bc apparently "labelling foods is bad". Also for aspartame, they call it "possibly" carcinogenic but let's be for real, any liquid extracted from the gas of burnt coal is carcinogenic and should not be ingested.

This reminds me of that saying "history doesn't repeat itself, but it sometimes rhymes". Big sugar did the same exact thing back in the 1960s to pay credentialed people (scientists) during the fat vs. sugar debate over obesity. This is just the 21st century version of it. Sad this is still a thing.

Let's also not forget that the programs these registered dieticians are trained in are also funded & supported by the same pharmaceutical & big food companies. My daughter's dietician made a post about being skeptical of information put out by organic farmers, because they have an angle. But the company/group whose studies she kept referencing are funded by the same companies in this video.

At least we should cultivate vegetables at home. We can get pots and seeds from Homedepot and various other places. Vegetables will be cheaper and fresh. Most products had variety earlier, and now all have disappeared. Cereals are okay, but why do we need so much sugar and chemicals in a box. Why can't customers decide on the amount of sugar they can eat later? I stopped sugar and started to lose weight. Bought a bread maker and tried a lot without sugar, adding different grains, etc. Buy a cereal grinder, get organic cereal, and make flour out of it. See the difference. Even try it with gluten-allergic people after making flour from grinding wheat yourself. Don't go with processed food. Cook yourself if you can, or utilise a slow cooker, and things will be done by you get back home.

So many "experts" want healthy eating to seem incredibly complicated when it really isn't. Make whole foods your foundation and watch your portion sizes (including sauces, dressings, and things of that nature which can sneakily add a lot of calories). Keep junk to a minimum but don't guilt yourself to death over a treat here and there. That's....more or less all there is to it. Anybody who tells you that you MUST eat certain foods, or schedule your meals at specific times, or plan your macros in one way only is just lying.

Brett, thank you so much for talking about this. I’m in school to become a dietitian and I’m so tired of “RDNs (Registered dietitian nutritionists)” saying that it is healthy to eat processed foods like Oreos, frozen pizza, chips, soda. They come at it as validating the consumer but as a dietitian we are supposed to be the educator for the consumer, especially on social media platforms. We are supposed to take an oath to make the world a healthier place. Eating garbage is not healthy and I will never validate my future client’s feelings because I truly want to help them battle chronic illness and the very real trials of obesity. I’m scared how this field is turning into psychology…. Validating people so we don’t hurt feelings.

One thing I can say on this topic is anytime I ask for a local professional to recommend a good nutritionist/dietician, I'm immediately dismissed by my primary care physician. I dream of one day having my own little farm (probably can't handle doing meat stuff, so I guess I will have to find a way to afford good ranchers), where I can control my dairy, fruits, eggs, and vegetables as much as possible. I want a husband who loves me and has the ability to take care of us financially (thank you economy), and I can homeschool my kids and give horse lessons for some extra income. I know it's just a dream, but sometimes it's fun to think about things like that, even when I know they probably can't really happen.

The problem they have with the food compass is that in the nutritional labels they don't need to disclose what vitamins are added and which ones are not, so it's very difficult for them to discern every single thing (tens of thousands of food items). But they did say they were working on it. Hopefully they'll have a new, more accurate updated version soon

So I’m a chemist who has put in a lot of time and effort into reading about this so I’ll say a few things about the start: 1) the FTC hitting the dietitians on “not disclosing” they were paid to talk about things came down to it not being obvious enough. So now you’ll sometimes see “#ad” At the start of their posts instead of towards the end. 2) Aspartame got put in group 2B of carcinogens, which also includes things like cell phones, fermented foods and aloe Vera. Interesting that a lot of people who rightfully ridiculed the WHO about the Covid vaccine are now suddenly parroting them when it comes to foods with little to no physical threat. 3) The study done on aspartame being possibly carcinogenic was done in vitro, which has horrible translation to practical human consumption. You would need to drink THOUSANDS of cans of diet soda for the aspartame to MAYBE cause a problem. However drinking that much of anything will cause other health problems first. The dose makes the poison! Edit: Also just because something is “natural” does not make it good. Please do not consume raw dairy unless you want a one way ticket to food poisoning. Pasteurization is literally just heating the milk to kill off germs. Things that have been demonized in the past like fat, sugar, oils, etc. were all simply because those things have a lot of calories and are not very satisfying in terms of keeping you full. American obesity comes down to having too many calories and not enough moving and use of energy. Time and time again that’s the case.

They do the same with pet food. A TV channel in Britain did a programme on pet food companies who help pay for vets education and facilities in return for them favouring and recommending their food. My dog will always eat raw meat and no payed off vet is gonna convince me to give my dog manufactured biscuits instead. I don't trust any expert anymore and can confirm regardless of what dieticians say my diet is about 75% meat, eggs and milk and 25% fruits and veg and I've never felt better

While on WIC, we constantly would ask why frosted mini wheats was on there, but raisin bran wasn't. The sugar was much higher in the frosted cereal and it didn't have fiber in it. But they claimed it was healthier somehow. Even strawberry spooners is on there, but not the cereals with fiber, which would help so many of these kids to have healthy gut function and feel fuller longer so they aren't needing constant snacks. We didn't even bother to keep going to appointments once or youngest turned 3. We could have done 2 more years (until he would have been 5), but fighting with them was not worth the time or effort. Our kids were always called to thin, except our middle son, who is thicket and they actively called him chunky when he was present and sitting on my lap, listening. During each pregnancy, I was always gaining too much weight, not enough, wasn't eating by their standards (which contradicted my drs) and wasn't doing all these other things right. It was a constant fight and they never listened. Even if you had the same case worker, they would ask the same dumb questions, parrot the same idiotic garbage you can disprove with a simple Google search, and were unable to explain why they were saying what they were. So things like this, I can totally see where someone could connect the money to these "findings".

These sham dietitians and food charts are so irritating. I used to work in public schools and kids choose cereal for breakfast almost every time. 15 to 30 minutes later, without fail, they hold their stomachs, complain of something they called "cereal tummy", and beg to go to the bathroom. Every time. Eggs fried in butter with toast and a banana don't do that. They are also still encouraged to drink a lot of milk, but rarely choose anything except chocolate and strawberry. The smell of the spent milk bucket alone put me off dairy and cereal for about 2 years 🤮😖. When kids are TELLING us they can't digest what they're eating, why wouldn't we listen??? *I was told years ago that aspartame can trigger neurological events, like seizures or even migraines. I avoid it. But my older relatives and friends who now have diabetes often make "sugar free" things and don't really understand that for me aspartame is not a "healthy alternative" to sugar. I've even tried the sugar alcohol based sweeteners and can't digest them at all, so I just eat a VERY small amount of regular cane sugar (or beetroot, if I'm in England). I'm much less worried about aspartame's link to cancer and more worried about the next cluster migraine event that may ruin my month 👌.

a lot of times they tastes better since they have higher calories and less micronutrients. Nothing nescessarily wrong with them just try not to eat them exclusively. Some bio engeineered food is totally comparable to foods that are "natural" but most are "unhealthy" since they are highly palletable and don't contain what you need. like everything, moderation is key.

I use baking sugar sometimes to brush my teeth, or a green powder natural tooth powder product, but usually don't brush my teeth every day anymore. I switched to the mostly KETOvore diet and now I can chew ice instead of having sensitive teeth. I used to not even be able to have ice in my water. They never warned me that starch in the diet causes sensitive teeth.
