His respectability is at an all-time low in the hip-hop/rap community (in all honesty it was already low pre-"First Person Shooter" but it's unquestionably much worse now)...........and from here on out for that reason I can see some individual hip-hop stations increasingly go rogue and not playing some of Drake's future singles as a lead artist or, at the very least, not put them in maximum rotation. He'll be fine overall though, for two reasons. Firstly, he's pretty much SYNONYMOUS with the streaming industry. Until the way people choose to consume music changes dramatically, Drake is going to stubbornly remain either the second or third biggest/most established entertainer in music. Secondly: Drake was always a pop star masquerading as a rapper in the first place. He's already gotten soooooooo much mileage by said masquerading in hip-hop/rap, but he could easily lean back into the straight-up pop side of his schtick in the short term at least a la "Hold On We're Going Home" and "One Dance" and collect more frontloaded hits that way. I do genuinely hope rap/hip-hop has its Nirvana moment much like country music is experiencing right now with Zack Bryan especially: meaning a seismic shift away from shallow lyricism and tropes and the pendulum swinging decisively back towards storytelling and substance. The KDot victory, I predict, will be a key catalyst in this eventuality soon, but what remains to be seen is which hungry up-and-comers will be hip-hop's equivalent of Zack Bryan.
