They ruined most of the mechanics. No skeleton system, barely any ambient noise, hell even night time is safer in the second game; 0 to little tension unlike the 1st. You've done a terrible job of convincing anyone here to give this a try or another in my case.
@Hewasnumber124 күн бұрын
Night time is way more dangerous in Dying Light 2 than in 1. You have to try really hard to avoid volatile lines of sight, and you still get into plenty of chases. In Dying Light 1 you’re able to break a chase in forty seconds, but in Dying Light 2 after the updates I’m scrambling up and down to try to break line of sight and get some distance. I even started ducking into bushes in an attempt to hide from the zombies, and it only works about half of the time. Night time in Dying Light 2 is way more intense than 1’s ever was now, you should try playing the game from the beginning again.
@Hikaeme-od3zq23 күн бұрын
@@Hewasnumber1 It's more dangerous (is it even?) for the wrong reasons tho: Since the game suffers from a CLEAR lack of direction, and it can be seen from the fact that they absolutely butchered the ambience and mood of the game, the nights are more "dangerous" only to compensate from the lack of actual good buildup. The nights in DL1 are just well made and are incorporated in this survival horror, open world, sandbox game that DL1 was. I can't help but feel as though if they actually nailed the ambience and mood of the game, the nights would've been REALLY better in DL2.

The thing I absolutely hate about the game is the grinding to upgrade blueprints. When the game first came out it was an artificial way to extend gameplay, but also because you were farming volatiles it made the volatiles less scary. You started seeing the monsters as currency and would simply use the easiest methods to farm their materials. If you played the game normally and ran away from volatiles, or if you killed one during a chase, you don't really have time to gather materials to properly farm for upgrades. the Cycle of gameplay made no sense. Same thing with adding weapons with stats on it, no point in farming for the best weapon (with the best stats) if you are going to eventually lose it and can't repair it (which they eventually fixed by adding repairing). The RPG-like aspects of this game shouldn't have been added with zero forethought.
@comfyphoenix16 күн бұрын
I feel like this aspect is not very prevalent in Nightmare mode, as you are too busy fighting for your life to worry about grinding and also Legend XP is boosted very high so you don't need to worry about grinding for hours to get XP. Also Infected Trophies are not tied to type of infected now, so no need to farm volatiles.

Cut the choices and consequences of the game and you already have a better game. Linear stories are not bad, its simple and straight to the point. You could probably still have multiple endings with hakon, lawan or solo but it doesn't matter anyway. The game is rigged from the very beginning, they started with a broken game that is still broken to this day, even tho they did some good changes but the player count can talk for itself, people don't care about this game anymore and barely no one is streaming, doing videos about it or whatever. Techland is not a bad company, but they F up pretty hard and should have not promised 5 years of content. I think it would be better if they just started to work on dl3 right after the game was released and maybe do some fixes for the game here and there, release a dlc and done, this game can't really be fixed and they proved it with the announcement of The Beast.

The choices ruined many games, including mine, I accidentally sided with Juan, which for some reason locks you into him ruling the city for this one decision in the middle of the game, and you also get Locked out of the Hakon church fight which means Lawan dies during the blast, you are also forced to go against jack matt, and frank dies no matter what, all from giving Juan the radio tower, the problem is it makes the game very confusing from this one choice that 33% of the players made, they should have made it more clear that this would be the evil/kill everyone route but they don’t…

Most things have thankfully improved. Ignoring the story (for very obvious reasons) my only issues last i played were the usual. Looting bodies taking way too long, especially with how often you had to do it for the infected trophies. Enemy deaths still being stiffer than DL1, using consistent animations most the time. And don't get me started on the weird semi live service daily/weekly quest stuff. Why techland? Beyond that it becomes increasingly minor stuff that sure would be nice to have addressed but i can live with. Like enemy lunge attacks being overly magnetized towards you. Making dodging virtually impossible at times.

I dont know why, but dying light 2 gameplay is the only gameplay ive actively disliked. I was getting to frustrated with bashing zombies, getting grabbed constantly, low health items, taking fall damage after each and every slightly tall fall, the night missions where so unbearable because of the constant spam of volatiles, the annoying need to have to collect stuff to upgrade my character, the still broken and janky animations the boring sidequests which already soured me when the first mission i got was a dude talking about fish and that was it! The horrendous dialog that didn't even make sense and usually made me cringe into oblivion, the fact its years later and they gloss over the world ending to a more generic apocalypse which skips all the good stuff, i dont even like the mc voice acting either it sounds like he is trying to hard and trying to sound hardcore or emo. Yes you can turn it back on but why turn it off if I am gonna turn it back on again in order to see? Its fricking frustrating man and im already growing old of it. Apart from those two things which are not exactly greek tragedies I am enjoying it. The night I don't necessarily agree on it being a diluted down DL1 experience because I have taken chases already and they don't let up and seem more hell bent on catching you. Night Hunters seem more OP too, at least to me they do. I have both games and yes DL1 holds a special place in my heart, I will never forget how much I shat my britches on that first Night Hunter chase looking for Antizen, the drums start and you can almost feel them breathing and snuffling and grunting down ya neck. Talk about anxiety I almost papped out my liver and kidneys. And I died the first go too lol. The tension and terror and anxiety to get away was there, it was well made imo. The story is not as interesting as the original, but the overall game itself is a lot of fun, and I enjoyed it a lot. That being said, a lot of the criticism is valid. The game had some pretty glaring technical issues at launch, and critiquing that is totally valid. Even after the fixes, the plot does feel a little weak, its just not as impactful as the original.

I honestly just started watching KZbin videos on my second screen while playing through the game, The characters and story were boring af. Never had the urge to do that on DL1 even after 3 or so play throughs. Running around the world doing activities such as air drops and wind mills was fun like that though.

You can turn off the power in bandit outposts if you go the top of their windmills so my favourite thing to do is turn off their power at night and throw a bunch of infected bait everywhere so a bunch of virals and volatiles start coming in. So many infected came in that they STARTED SPAWNING INSIDE THE OUTPOST

the prefer dying light 2 since for me the over all gameplay is much better like the combat feeling funner and the parkour is smoother even tho the story sort of poopy atleast we got a final boss that isnt a qte. i like the stealth part since it does work not always very well. some people do complain that alot of the buildings are copy and pasted with i can agree with but most towns cities are close enough the same and the layout inside are also close enough like the ones in real life and its the same as the first game have the same problem but not as much yeah the first game is fun and the story is better the combat feels alittle less fun since once u get a gun ur more likely going to use that. in the second game i only use the guns on big boys or the nighttime boys i prefer using the bows one normal enemies. dont want to add more to this since dont want to make it too long

I still play Dying Light 1. It's an excellent game, but has some jank and a few bad design decisions. The Mad Max wasteland setting turned me off to Dying Light 2, and I think they squandered an opportunity to to turn this into a major series. Think about if they would've shown the virus escaping and infecting different countries, they could've set the game anywhere they wanted for as many sequels as they wanted to make.

I was looking forward to this game more than just about any other game that I can remember. When it came out I just felt betrayed....no other way to say it! They took my gritty zombie game, made it arcadey. With health bars above zombies and an agregious over the top UI. Doubled down on the Human combat. Which was the worst part of DL1 in my opinion. I loved the part in DL1 where u constantly felt like zombies were sneaking up on you from behind when u were in the city streets. Added real tension. I can't even bring myself to play this new entry. Have tried and just quit out. Still hurts to this day this betrayal if Im honest? Anyone else feel this way?

I stopped playing because there wasn't a likable character in the whole game (well, Hakon was OK). I was supposed to go on a faction mission but my "team mates" were so unlikable, I just couldn't do it. I backed off and tried to snipe them but the game wouldn't let me take them out. I turned the game off and haven't been back. It didn't help that combat just doesn't feel visceral like DL1. Everything seems floaty and your strikes just don't seem to do much.

I love both. Have 500+ hours on the second, and about 160 on the first. I loved the atmosphere, physics and sunsets in the first but everything felt super clunky and there was no block button and lackluster parkour. The second feels much better for me with customization, blocking, parkour and combat. The hate used to be deserved but now it’s just a running bad joke. Both games are great and both are better than the other in specific areas, but you’re right this was a good sequel because it expanded on most elements in the first like sequels should do. They messed up by folding and adding guns instead of makeshift weapons. They should have stuck to their vision cuz people still complain anyway. I never thought it was a terrible game. I bought it after a year and gave it a 7. Now it’s a solid 8.5. I still give the first a 9.

The only things that really bothers me is that E3 is now shown as what we could have but will never get and how they left out many important details that they could have at LEAST copy and paste it from the first game. How can the day and night cycle be the most lackluster thing in dl2 but be perfected in dl1? Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE both !!games as well!!
@zay_tiggygaming11 күн бұрын
@ I agree night isn’t the same. It’s missing the iconic sunset and shifters. Nightmare mode improved it but still needs work. Hopefully when the beast drops they keep their word and add those things into dl2 cuz it seems the night andAnd everything is more similar to the first one

Dying Light 2 has the better story for me. Crane is the only thing making the story even slightly tolerable; and it’s not from a high investment into Crane’s struggles and goals, no, it’s because he makes the awful story funny. Whereas Dying Light 2, for all its story faults, at least gave me a really good time with roleplaying. I think people have a more negative opinion of the game’s story when they try to do the "right" thing all the time. Being a goody-two-shoes is just boring and keeps the story shallow. I played the game making Aiden prioritize his quest to find Mia above all else (with a few exceptions at the end of the game). Playing the game with a morally grey Aiden who tries to navigate a treacherous political scene to get what he wanted, but still trying to do the right thing when possible made the game way more interesting.
@corvusgaming237924 күн бұрын
@@Hewasnumber1 The difference in protagonists make quite the difference, as Aiden is a survivor, Crane isn’t. He’s an agent that becomes a survivor. He’s purely trying to help the original survivors, while Aiden has his own goals, but, of course, each to their own.

Even though I prefer the first DL by quite a bit, I did very much enjoy DL2. An important factor, though, is that even from launch I rarely experienced any bugs in the game (and none of them significant) (it should probably be noted that I only play solo, not multi-player). Now, if I had experienced the issues others were reporting, I would have been extremely disappointed with the game. Re: the story--it's not good (nor was the story in the first game); that said, my expectations for story in the zombie genre (regardless of medium--game, film, etc.) are not high. I think my biggest complaint about DL2 remains the copy-and-paste feel of the map. There have been some minor improvements with recent updates, but it's still painfully obvious. I found myself using the map in DL2 much more than in DL1 simply because I couldn't tell where I was much of the time in DL2 (many of the streets and building interiors looked the same).

Just got back into Dying Light 2 after around 2 years and I'm having a blast with it. Bought it on release and was so hyped but wasn't enjoying it and was pretty disappointed For some reason couldn't put my finger on it exactly. On paper it should have been a better game than DL1 but just wasn't. Now with all the updates I would say its a pretty solid game but with only 28 hours in I would say I'm still early on in the game. Since I played 15 hours 2 years ago, I can't really remember the story so I'm talking about everything else except story.

I can't comment on story in its entirety yet, I just started the game cause it's 60% off on steam, but yeah it's bad. Terrible really but..... I didn't get the game for its story anyway. I got it to slaughter zombies, have some "OH F#&K" moments as a volatile jumps me, and explore a different take on a post apocalyptic world. So far it's well worth the $33 it costed me to pick up lol. There are still a ton of updates to come which is nice as well, seems they are sticking to the 5 years of support promise they made. Lots of community input is either being worked on, or in the queue. It's not a completely terrible game, but it's not a hidden gem either.
