I love this game, some things could be improved upon but the way the are, I still enjoy it very much. But one thing I have to add is that I have been part of it since SPG 2 Early Access and I was one of the guys suggesting a version in which you could have your own faction and conquer territories. To my amazement, about 2 years later, they actually did it. THEY DID IT, they actually made a whole new game based on suggestions of gamers. Never ever, have I had the pleasure to interact with a dev team, that cares so much about their players. For that reason alone, I am happy to support them.

Thank you for another great review. I have been been playing this game since early beta. Just some comments to add to this review. You can remap the keyboard/mouse control in options or you can opt for controller support. You can change control of the ship by pressing space bar to something like Freelancer which is much easier. The tutorial, while good, does need to be expanded on, especially by showing all the multiple ways to control the ship and various cameras. In it's current state, it's just enough to get started. Most of the game will have you experiment and explore which is what the developers intended all along. It's part of the mystery and excitement of playing an outer space game and exploring to see what you can do. Not all players will be open to this. I have not experience any game breaking bugs but the indie developer is very supportive of fixing their games if you post the bugs. While it's good to compare this game to other games, keep in mind that it should be evaluated based upon what it is, not what we want it to be. They never wanted it to be mount and blade in outer space or freelancer or they would have called it that. The game is great for what it is and I do agree that we need more games like this. Also of note: This is not a direct sequel to Starpoint Gemini or Starpoint Gemini 2, but rather a side story. SG3 is in development.

Yeah, you summed it up nicely, Trist X. :) I have to say, in all honesty, SG3 is not in development at this point. We're focuses on sorting things in Warlords, develop more content and release the game on Xbox One. But it's definitely a plan in the back of our heads. :)

If you like EVE online but for obvious reasons you can't play it (such as having something called "a life") this game is for you

@@thelegodude5504 Well i'm 14 hours into warlord and yes it is good but clearly nowhere near freelancer. Comparing it to freelancer it have less character, less charm, the cutscenes are bad and don't even try to convey anything other than showing what you are supposed to look at, the voice acting is abysmal that is when you have voice acting which is not always, the immersion is meh, you don't have that feeling of adventure you have on freelancer when steping out of charted space looking for wormholes, the progression is messy and the game just throw new shit at you randomly without realy explaining anything, the controles are bad compared to freelancer, the weapon selection is poor you basically have 3 type divided in a dozen of variants which all sound and look the same to every other weapon of the same type and they all feels like pee shooters going pew pew pew. Forget about the chunky oomf you get when equiping a skyrail for the first time in freelancer and how much more powerfull you feel upon upgrading your weapons. On the plus side you have a decent ship selection, you have a prety good editor to pimp your ships, you can have fleets, you have base building and conquest similar to a rts and the missions are more varied than freelancer. A better comparison would be something like x3 but more casual and less buged.

It's pretty easy to be better than a 21 year old game. Any half-decent game 16 years newer than what it is being compared to is generally going to be technically superior in every single way if compared at the same time. You have to make the comparison unfair in some way for the older game to come out on top. Like relying on 16 year old "feelings" lol.

Weird how people still regard the og mass effect trilogy to be better than mass effect andromeda, weird how people consider majoras mask and ocarina of time to be the best zelda games, weird how 20 years old freelancer is still better than everspace 2 that came out last year. Oh well i guess crime boss rockay city is better than half life because GrApHiCsx!!!

Get out of turret view of controlling your ship and use the normal 3rd person view if you wanna retain your sanity. It's much better and plays like a normal space sim. Use turret view to look around your ship or if you're rotating to fire your broadsides, which can also be done in 3rd person view.

+Cosmic Engine I am playing release version 1.6 and the controls are definitely one of the biggest detriments to this game, it makes it feel like it's "on rails", there is little to no "fluidity" to the motions. However the actual concept of the game and it's inception into practice is very well done, so far with about 6 hours into the game, I am enjoying it.

You can message me anytime!, in answer to your question, Yes it will be easy to get into even if you don't like strategy. The strategy element is only a part of the game and is hands off enough to allow you to not worry too much about it.

It's more combat oriented, especially in the beginning. Strategy component kicks in later, but its not a Homeworld kind of strategy.

If you want to play using mouse and keyboard and you have a controller plugged in that is interfering and causing the mouse to go crazy, what the devs should do is provide a controller disable switch in the options menu but this simple option is not available anywhere in the options menu. So... to disable controller detection you need to get your hands dirty and load up into a text editor the file: [Install Drive]\[Install Folder]\Starpoint Gemini Warlords\StarpointGeminiWarlordsConfiguration.cfg and change the option AutoDetectGamepad: from 1 to 0. Save the file. Start the game. No more crazy mouse.

Interesting. I put more than a thousand hours into freelancer, all of the depth of lore and equipment types. Quite varied environment types and a universe that felt alive with all the people you could talk to in bars and talked to each-other in space, and the faction system. You are just a small rung in a large galaxy, and a few systems away would always be too deadly. I wonder how a game like this deals with progression? I mean in 4x, you've usually gotta follow certain rules to keep you from falling too far behind. That's fine in a game like Civ, where it informs your every move, but I could see it overwhelming in this. Are there non-geographic factions like mercenaries or corporations to keep things interesting? Varied space terrain like freelancer had, with its radiation belts secret jump holes?

Make sure you get out of Turret cam by pressing 'V'. You can fly around in the fixed 3rd person ship view instead of trying to rotate around in turret cam.

Hi i like the game very mutch hope they bring some nice dlc to expand the game even more. And i hope some better managment options when yo uasign other ships to your sqaud so they follow you and fight with you. ANd the perks are fine but i wish we have more skills we can use so we can chose with four we equip and others so we can change them and ahve more variety in it but the perks are fine good amount of variety. So lets hope the game have a good future with some nice dlc to expand the game and overall patch to make it better. I bought all Star Point Gemini games since one and this on is the best so i hope they continue work on it
