It’s funny because in French, we have a sentence (not a word) for that nostalgic feeling caused by a smell (or anything else). We call it « La madeleine de Proust » (Proust’s madeleine) because, Marcel Proust in his book called « La recherche du temps perdu » taste a madeleine cake and all his childhood memories are brought back because of the smell and the taste of the cake. It’s now a common saying in French, to refers as Madeleine de Proust an element that bring back memories and nostalgia. I wish you and your family great holidays.
@niraakara Жыл бұрын
Actually I thought about that as well although I am not French. In English too there’s a word for it… Proustian moment! Actually I’ve had Proustian moments so often even before I came to know there was a word for it and the story behind it! Coincidentally I love Madelines too 😊 I’d love to read À la recherche du temps perdu sometime! In the time I’ve spent knowing and reading about it, I could’ve read a lot of it by now 😂 but well… Btw, there’s a holiday/festival in India called Deepavali or Diwali around the end of November the festival of lights and it’s something cottage fairy and many of us would love! 🕯️

Wow, I was journaling about "anemoia" this morning without even realizing it! Thank you for helping me put it into words, as well as sharing that C.S. Lewis quote. I was reflecting on the deep longing I have in my heart, and made the connection of my longings to the garden of Eden. To be arm-in-arm with the Lord, walking through luscious greenery and flowers, feeling the sun and the radiance of God on my face, and enjoying the peace of a world without sin, darkness, and death. We were not made for this world, and maybe, just maybe, that longing deep inside for that nostalgic wonderland that we've never experienced is a longing for the days of Eden that our oldest ancestors experienced, and the glorious days to come? Anyways, I thought it wasn't a coincidence that I had these musings this morning, and that you shared similar ones today too. Thank you for creating a place on the internet where I feel seen and known, and not silly for writing a little journal entry on your KZbin video comments

I usually celebrate Hanukkah alone. It is usually 8 lovely days of solitude. I hand-roll my own candles for the menorah out of beeswax, and doing so allows me to indulge in contemplation about gratitude and faith. This year, however, my boyfriend was visiting me for two weeks. He is not religious whatsoever - nor Jewish or familiar with its customs - but when he found out he would be here during the entirety of Hanukkah, he was so excited. He bought me 8 presents for each day, a "Hanukkah" candle with a personalized message on its label, and a handwritten card about how happy he is to spend the holiday with me (which, of course, made me cry). I work until very late at night, and I would come home to the menorah all clean and set up, complete with the candles he rolled himself as I taught him. It was such a wonderful, thoughtful way to spend a holiday that I had observed on my own for so long. I am so immensely grateful for him.

I started reading 'The Snowchild' by Eowyn Ivey because you recommended it and I'm loving it so far! It's so gorgeously written, it makes me smile and tear up. It's just so wonderful.

Paola, you have the sensibility and intellect of a poet, especially in your opening narratives! You're so incredibly talented on many levels and bring such amazing light to all of us!

I remember one time someone told me that I was "not of this world." It was so strange to hear. I simultaneously completely understood what she meant and had no idea what she meant. I felt totally seen by her and completely baffled. If I am not of this world then where am I from? It was like she told there was a place I totally belonged but it wasn't here.

@ Camille Mullins-Lemieux you totally understood what she meant and felt totally seen by her because God meant for us all to feel "not of this world". It was a void He put inside so that we may turn to Him...in John 17:11-15 ESV version Jesus says: And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world...I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.

Wintering art reminds me of the snow geese that come to visit in Upstate New York. They are so beautiful. On a winter day, when they are in flight and the sun is shining, their white feathers facing the sun causes them to look like diamonds in the sky. It is such a wonderous sight. I am just in awe of God's beauty when He allows me to see such beauty. Thank you for sgaring. I hope you and your family have a great and treasured Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year.

It's going to be winter here in Canada very soon, and it's very soothing to watch your video in preparation for a season I'm dubious about. As an artist it reminds me that it's actually one of the best seasons for staying home and making art. Thank you, Paola, for helping me to remember who I am and that it's okay to be a gentle and sensitive person in this world.

Whoa, I am early. I am just a few seconds into the video and I can already feel how this video beautifully captures the wintry magic of the end of the year in the Northern hemisphere. Thank you for the beauty you share with the world, Paola! I have never skipped an update ever since I subscribed to you💙🌻

Wow, what a moment. When you described the nostalgic feeling of hearing a train whistle in the distance, you instantly invoked a memory deep in me of one of my favourite picture books as a child that I hadn’t thought about in decades. Pa’s Top Hat by Estelle Corney. Far out that was intense. 🚂 Thank you for your beautiful stories and love of language

Greetings from Poland! Your channel has just popped up on my YT list and after having watched one "episode" I already know that's exactly what I've been looking for for a long time. Your life, the views, your beautifilul house, all this reminds me of my happy childhood (I'm 42 now😊). I'm gonna go back and watch your previous films. They make me relax after a long day. Stay safe. You certainly do have a calming and genteel voice that would transfer wonderfully to an audio as another of your fans have suggested. Might be a project that could expand your horizon in a delightful way knowing others could keep fairy tales etc. to share with little loved ones maybe you could even illustrate as you do an absolutely beautiful depiction of what you are so talented at in artistry generally. I think of you as the peaceful artist of life. Love all your creations and hope your life is filled with bountiful joys in all your endeavors. Bless you and happy belated Birthday.

I just love your dog and how happy he is to play in the snow with a frozen stick lol. Hubby and I have always loved using words that most don't even know exist let alone use and they always look so confused. It's really sad to see the extent of the dumbing down that has been going on in our schools in America. One can only hope that all of the hateful teaching will be put to a stop and that they will actually teach kids interesting and useful information. I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!!!

Everytime I saw a plane fly by as a child I got such a wild sense of longing for adventure - in German we call it 'Fernweh' (the 'painful' feeling of wanting to be far away). I love powerful and descriptive words like this ☺️ have a wonderful holiday with your family 🌲✨

I am grateful for my mom sharing her love of ambiance. It has always helped me cope during this time when loss is most felt. Last year I spent Yule alone as my husband of 3 years passed away in September. It was a long year this year, but I hung in there. Your channel has helped me do this. This year, I am happy to say that with some inner work I have found some happiness and looks like I'll be having Yule supper with the new love I found earlier this month. A very pleasant surprise for me. So hope is a good thing. My Yule celebrations are Christmas in origin, but as time goes by it gets filled with more and more pagan aspects as well as I'm becoming more in tune with nature. It's been a blessing to share my good fortunes with the birds and beasties that have frequented my yard this year. Sometimes Mother Nature's decorations are the best.

Total belief in this... it's refreshing to hear it voiced from one so young... I'm nearly 60 and have felt it since childhood, that memory of a place, time, world not our own... a place where magic is still readily visible... but could never articulate it until later in life...
