People still don't have a clue how good Eloy is, if they saw it from our (drummer's) perspective, they would be literally blown away like I am, I can say without a doubt that Eloy is the GOAT in my books...yes you can find maybe faster drummers and such, but the combination that makes him a monster behind the kit is his power, precision, dynamics, technique, groove, style, creativity, coordination out of this world, sick chops, sick pocket, insanely good sound from his whole kit...I never compare drummers or anything else, some drummers have better this or better that, but the drummer that has it all is Eloy, that's why he is the goat for me

We'll find out on their next album. I'll give him best current power drummer, while El Estepario has best current chops. I like his stuff with The Cost, can't wait for new Slipknot.

@@FantasySportsZen We already saw the creativity of him on his projects, especially with Sepultura...I'm also a drummer and I can confidently say Eloy's chops are more creative, most chops and fills I hear from Siberiano I instantly figure it out how to play them in my head and on the set, but when Eloy's plays his chops, I literally need someone to write them on paper for me so I can figure them out, they are not just simple RL KK fills, or RLRL KK, Eloy's are out of this world and I literally need a transcription to learn it...Not dissing Siberiano of course, he is one of the best drummers right now and I respect him, but Siberiano himself claims Eloy is the best drummer in the world...There are levels to this like everything else, and Eloy has been creating music for 20+ years so we can't compare the creativity...Also Siberiano plays the fills faster at times in order to make them look harder, but Eloy can play his fills and chops not that fast, but they are so creative and mindblowing I cant copy them...but with Siberiano I can instantly sit on my set and replicate it...Don't get me wrong tho, in no world I'm comparing my drumming to Siberiano haha!

But I don't know exactly how hard it is to do what he does, besides being super fast and hitting extra hard. Worse, I am Brazilian, and I have no clue what people mean by "Brazilian influence." But I do enjoy listening.

I was told by Eloy's drum tech that Eloy gets new cymbals and heads every other show, or every show, based on how froggy he feels from one night to the next. Eloy also plays for about 8 hours a day before his shows. Also, Eloy is so good at his recovery playing, he breaks 1-2 sticks almost every song. And who really notices?

I found out recently that I'm a whole 3 days older than Eloy. It's so cool seeing someone basically the exact same age as me, who would have been jamming it to Joey as a teen living this awesome dream and not only do Joey's part justice bringing the absolute heat to Slipknot. GOAT metal drummer

It's so epic to see a player doing metal and not be sort of a trigger fiend that is a tapper. This guy beats the absolute piss out of the drums. Eloy and El Estapario are from a different planet - the likes of which the world has never seen such a demonstration of brute power and precise technique.

​@@thomadyThe four bass drums are just for show/esthetics..it's been documented that he basically prefers using 1 kick with a double bass pedal. The use of dummy heads/gear has been going on since the Zep days ...Now that being said, I'm sure he could play the snot out of all four bass drums if it comes down to it, specially with his Latin music background, he has polyrhythmic independence for days.

Paiste cymbals are the best cymbals, period. I wish I was able to be endorsed by them when I was recording and touring, but at the time, I was using a bunch of random brands because I was breaking cymbals left and right. I just bought whatever, so I didn't have to play with cracked cymbals. I mostly had Paistes, but there were Meinl, Sabian, and Zildjians mixed in. Since 2019, I have only used Paiste. Even though I'm in a fairly technical deathmetal band, I have almost all Paiste Signature Series cymbals on my kit. I have a 14" Sound Formula Reflector Heavy Hi-Hat, 20" Signature Series Dry Ride, 19" and 18" Signature Series Full Crashes, a 16" Fast Crash, 10" Signature Reflector Splash, 10" Signature Series Splash, 16" Signature Thin China, and a good old 18" Alpha China. It's the 2nd gen Rock China. I've had it for 16 or 17 years. I wish I had that set up when it actually mattered.

Studying him allowed me to remain calm while playing anything. Now I'm revisiting these Slipknot parts 17 years later going "damn that sounds good now" because of the fusion flair Eloy brings. Matt Garstka's channel is super helpful too for drummers who want to take the next step. Also, if you are learning, play to live versions of stuff in the peak and current eras to see the evolution of the song. IMO it's boring as shit when bar/whatever bands play the record.

The trick is to play (study) +- 8 hours a day for more than 20 years, + doing specific heavy physical trainning to gain strenght/power and endurance, + playing on top notch drum kits. Oh, i was almost forgetting this little detail: you also have to be born to be one of the best (if not the) Not that hard if you ask me.

What's behind eloy is that in addition to precision and strength, he can place rhythms and shadownotes in the middle of transitions and passages, as well as renewing the drums in slipknot songs.
