As I came across this video, it speaks to what I have been doing for the last 2 years. Basically, I now live with my daughter and I have a room, however, it is more important to have a create/workspace than it is to have a bedroom. After bringing a lot of my stuff over here, I came to realize everything does not need to take up space in this tiny room. So I began organizing the garage. Everything that is associated with spirit doll making, inspirational earrings and creating the accessories that go along with that need to be in the space. All the offshoots are housed in the garage easily accessible and I can lay my hands on most things. I am now trying to decide on the best way to label everything, using graft tape and hand write them or buy a label maker.
@amkarei2 жыл бұрын
What did you decide to use for labeling? I have eye issues so I'm pretty sure a label maker would not give me large enough print to be on any use. Hope your combo craft room / bedroom is working out well for you.
@phenomenal_woman2 жыл бұрын
@@amkarei I purchased some white gaffer tape from Amazon, because it would be easy to remove, and hand lettered what is in each box. I think I will purchase a labeler later. my handwriting is ok, I just think the neatness of a labeler would read better.

I've been using this method for years, didn't know it had a name 😄 currently my space is tiny, so I'm organising vertically, which means my dartboard is vertical. The most used things at eye and hand level, radiating out up and down. To me it's just common sense, but like a lot of organising tips, they make sense and come naturally to some and not to others. I'm learning a lot lately about clutter and it's all so obvious but I never would have got it without someone telling me! 😂 Great video, I think you explained it well 🙂🦋💕

Thank you, Norrine! It seems as if this Bullseye Method just happened naturally. I was an avid seamstress for more than 50 years, employing the method you described. I now enjoy card making but have made a few adjustments to the Method. I have arthritis and find that I must resist the urge to remain immobile and instead move around so my joints keep working. I purposely set up the space so I must get out of my chair to use machines (Cricut, Scan 'n Cut, Gemini, etc.). I also have a separate "heat embossing station" where I stand to work and keep the embossing powder contained. Everything is in one room so distances are minimal. For the items that are truly within reach, I am loving my new chair and the recent installation of metal wallboard (similar to pegboard). Over the years, I have learned that tidying the room daily is essential.

Thank you so much for your great ideas! My sewing/craft/office has become a ‘home’ for things to be repaired, sewing and craft supplies. Too many projects. It has been overwhelming! I started using your 21 plan yesterday - 14 to go. My plan is to store all of my sewing/quilting projects and supplies in the closet - except for 1 project. Since I have a smaller amount of craft supplies, they will be stored under my cutting table/bookcase/filing cabinet. My craft/sewing table will be stored under the table for easy access. I’m looking forward to having an organized room where I can find everything without doing a major ‘treasure hunt’.

Perfect!!!! I recall hearing you say several times to "keep the things you use the most within arm's length." I have four primary hobbies. I put related supplies on each wall of my hobby room with a work surface in the center. By rolling my stool & a tool cart around the work surface, I can access whatever I need for each type of project. Once I got that far, I was even able to wedge in some books I love, a CD player & an easy chair for things like crocheting & needlepoint, & - of course - watching your videos. Next up: refining each wall by applying the bullseye method. It's a lot of work, but it's SO nice to see things begin to make sense! I'm right there, too. It's like I'm all gungho to do a project and I'll hit a road bump or set it away supposedly temporarily, but it's just not what I want to do because it's lost its appeal. Have you tried committing to a project to help someone else? "We" seem to be great at doing for others, but never get around to doing for ourselves. When we COMMIT (SAY "IT" ALOUD!!), we are obligated to "DO". And don't we feel W O N D E R F U L when THAT happens? Or, conversely, ASK for help! One of three things (or maybe ALL three ...) will happen: 1) the help will actually BE help, and you will succeed in getting your space sorted out; 2) the "help" may not get the immediate need accomplished (may EVEN p*ss you off!?), but MAY light your fire to make a more concerted effort to get the mess minimized; and/or 3) win you a crafting companion that'll share your varying interests and M A Y B E even an occasional glass of wine!! Hey Norrine....what a great name for an organization method, ie the Bullseye Method! I've realized over the past year or so of crafty organization that because I have an 'over abundance' of items, that I need to have an 'outside inventory area so obviously, this has to be stored in the farthest area from 'the bullseye' LOL, in my case, in another room as my craft room is about 10 by 11 feet. Even though I had sorted 'like items', I was finding my the time I got to sorting other like items, I was running out of room so I had to go back and break down these categories again into smaller groups so that I could store more items in my craft room. It was kind of 'twice the work' because I was having to go back to essentially re-organize, so I wanted to mention this to others who are planning to organize, especially those of us who 'over-shopped' and have an abundance of, say adhesives (that's another story but one lesson I have learned). You are the best dear and as always, thanks for sharing!
@TheCraftyOrganizer3 жыл бұрын
Our craft areas are the same size!!!!! LOL It's hard to fit all of the things you love into one small space... So, YES! If you can store some of it out of the main bullseye - it really helps! But (I speak from experience) leave yourself a note of where your extras/supplies are! You will thank me later. I add notes to so many things with "extra glue in _______" or, "drummel in _______"). I'm always so happy with myself when I find notes helping me remember where I've stored things. :D

This is genius! I have supplies organized "like with like" but was still having trouble with the efficiency of my creative space. Now I see that the Cricut supplies (which I use only a few times a year) need to be moved to lower cabinets, and my sewing/quilting supplies (which I use 3-5 times a week) need to be in accessible shelves, not behind cabinet doors. I've been keeping some rarely used supplies in storage in the garage, and thought there was something wrong with me that I couldn't keep them "handier." I bought an ink storage for my Distress Oxide inks as I use them ALL the time, but it is deeper than the ink pads and if I’m not careful they get pushed back too far and I can’t get them out! I’m thinking of solving that problem by putting a cheap eraser at the back of each pigeonhole.

Oh those are the hardest to do! Pick one item and literally schedule an hour each week to work on them. Also, keep them close by and out in the open so that you can’t forget them - this is not an out of sight out of mind item that you want to have lingering forever.

Hello my name is Linda I have a large room that I use as craft room and sewing room. I love to do both. I make quilts and have a Gammill long arm quilting machine. My son in law didn’t follow my instructions very well when he closed in my old garage for this room it’s about 20x16. My long arm frame is 14’ long so its too long to put it like I wanted so I could maximize the room. Before wood became so expensive he built mr nice shelves desk plus I had some pieces I utilized so I wouldn’t waste them I’ve got storage on top of storage . I use to own a quilt shop so I have lots and lots of fabric. I really have a mess needless to say. I’m in the process of trying to figure ways to place things I need. I like to stencil etc. up cycle things. My grads have a very small area to do their crafts. My daughter has her cricket and her vinyl plus her cups she does occasionally. It started off to be mine but since I nice I share. We have tried to group of what each of use does but some of my equipment can be used in other areas then when I g to reach for it it’s disappeared. Do you have any subjections?

I have been trying to organize my office/craft room for a long time. I've tried buying containers, none of which ever really work, and leave me more frustrated. This should be a simple concept, but how do I organize two areas within one space. There would really be 2 bullseyes and one interferes with the other. I only have a limited amount of room, so having to make this work. I don't have access to many of the places you encourage to shop - I live in a remoter area of Canada. No hobby lobby, nearest IKEA is a six hour drive away, no container store. Dollar stores are limited in selection which has led to the plethora of failed attempts. Thanks for any advice you can give.
@TheCraftyOrganizer3 жыл бұрын
My space is half office/half crafting.... I use the same space for my seldom used items as my overlap area. And for the supplies... use what you have/or upcycle boxes, if you can. Also, Don't know if this is an option, but people are now selling Dollar Tree AND Ikea items through Amazon. The prices are a little higher - but at least you have access to the products. Please keep me posted! I'd love to help.

That's how I was in the beginning... but I found certain main tools always were grabbed..... and that my most favorite interests were pretty consistent. I swap them out sometimes, as certain crafts feel seasonal to me. Example... I won't be making any mini gardenscapes until spring.... so I can move those supplies out for now. Woohoo!!! Pam, it can be very overwhelming, not to mention daily life. 🙃 One place to start that might be helpful is weeding out what you may not want or use. Depending on your stock that you have and the projects that you want to spend time and energy on. I really find encouragement in writing a LIST of the things I want to accomplish; that doesn’t mean I get it done or misplace the list🙄lol. It seems to unscramble my brain.! We are are brought up being told to buy, collect, get more.... we are not 'taught' how to organize those things once we get them!!!! I always suggest getting all of the likes together. I love what Rachel Burgener said below... because once you have the likes together, you can start deciding what you really enjoy and want to spend your time on. I think it's a great place to start! And be kind to yourself. You didn't aquire all of these things overnight - so don't push yourself to get it organized overnight. xoxoxo
