Main point, appreciate your loved ones when they're alive, not dead, life can always take an unexpected turn. I learned that last month, expected to see my granpa over the summer, as he lived in Mexico. He was so ecstatic, he left us last month. I could not comprehend he was gone, I was awaiting his text, how could he be? But it was his time. Don't waste time in imperfections of one another

I love how at 6:15 the older son dreams of being in the back seat with his mother, with no (visible) driver in the front seat. Which calls to mind "In The Backseat", a song similarly about Regine's mother: "I like the peace In the backseat I don't have to drive I don't have to speak I can watch the countryside And I can fall asleep"
@christiansaldana420010 жыл бұрын
The mother is gone and the father has two kids to raise and love. He sells flowers and has a tough time economicly but he tries his best for his two kids. He tries to instill religion in them both and tries to keep thr latin culture alive in his youngest son and tries to keep the oldest out of trouble, his relationship with the oldest is tough because theyre both depressed for the mothers passing. The oldest seeks parties to cope but inside he also wants to please god and is conflicted by his two desires. At the end family love brings them together and have the mother and religion to unite them. Well thats what i got from the video after seeing it one time. Aeesome song and great video.

The reason for using a Mexican family I think is that in our culture we are not just family oriented people, we are also so mother oriented, our mom is untouchable, almost like a saint, and losing the mother is losing the backbone of a family which makes this video, or at least to me as a Mexican that has been apart from my mother for a while, a more profound and painful tragedy.

Understood, but why do they have the father selling flowers in the street? Is that just what they think all Mexicans do? That's something people do when they've first come over and have no skills. This dad is in his 50s and while they don't live in a mansion, it's a decent little cottage in LA (not the best housekeeping, but that's probably bc the mom is dead). In real life he'd be a truck driver or something similar.

Afterlife, oh, my God, what an awful word After all the breath and the dirt and the fires are burnt And after all this time, and after all the ambulances go And after all the hangers-on are done hanging in the dead light Of the afterglow I've gotta know Can we work it out? We scream and shout 'till we work it out Can we just work it out? Scream and shout 'till we work it out? 'Till we work it out, 'till we work it out 'Till we work it out, 'till we work it out Afterlife, I think I saw what happens next It was just a glimpse of you, like looking through a window Or a shallow sea Could you see me? And after all this time It's like nothing else we used to know After all the hangers-on are done hanging in the dead light Of the afterglow I've gotta know Can we work it out? Let's scream and shout 'till we work it out Can we just work it out? Scream and shout 'till we work it out? But you say Oh When love is gone Where does it go? And you say Oh When love is gone Where does it go? And where do we go? Where do we go? Where do we go? Where do we go? And after this Can it last another night? After all the bad advice That had nothing at all to do with life I've gotta know Can we work it out? Scream and shout 'till we work it out? Can we just work it out? Scream and shout 'till we work it out? But you say Oh When love is gone Where does it go? And you say Oh When love is gone Where does it go? Oh When love is gone Where did it go? And where do we go? It's just an afterlife It's just an afterlife Pós-vida, oh, meu Deus, que palavra terrível Após toda respiração, e sujeira, e os fogos estarem queimados. E você diz Oh Quando o amor acaba Para onde ele vai? I have to tip my hat to this Emily Kai Bock for effectively drawing an undiluted picture of a single concept. She was so adept as to make me feel for the pure tragedy of this story- I almost felt it was beautiful tragedy, but then that would have cheapened it some I think. I almost wanted some hope to be implied at the end- but that certainly would not have been very true to life, or death. Huzzah Ms. Bock.

Love can't be gone...is always inside you.
@tbloogz933011 жыл бұрын
sofiteeeniaa Love itself is always inside of you. But what about love for a single person? That one person. The person whose name made your heart race. The love you have for them isn't inside of you to begin with. They build their love inside of you; A slow building process where they use the trust you've given them to break away the walls that shield the world from the real you. Piece by piece Memory by memory They chisel their way past your walls and plant themselves firmly at the center of your person. That love wasn't always inside. And there's no guarantee that it'll stay there. Sometimes love sticks around forever, But love often finds some way of disappearing. Sometimes love fades. Sometimes it explodes out of existence. Sometimes it seems to disappear overnight. Sometimes it stops being romantic love. Sometimes you find that the one you love doesn't light up when they see you anymore. Sometimes the eyes that you fell in love with shoot you a look that dismantles you from the inside out. Sometimes it's you who doesn't look at them the same anymore. Sometimes the very traits and idiosyncrasies that you fell in love with become the things you can't stand about them. Sometimes the little things that made your blood boil become the things you miss the most. Sometimes you wish they could keep you awake another night; At least then they would be there. Sometimes you spend days thinking about the things you would have said differently. Sometimes you spend years. Sometimes you have to choose: Do you remain friends and endure the pain of platonic friendship? Or do you sever ties and endure the pain of complete loss? Sometimes they choose for you. Sometimes the person you comforted through countless sleepless nights The person you held and promised to be with forever The person who loved you for who you were, not who you tried to be. The person who was there for you through everything. Through deaths Through job loss Through successes and failures Through cancer. Sometimes, someday that person might tell you that their love for you is gone. Sometimes you wake up, and at some point that day you'll finally admit to yourself that you've both been holding onto something that neither of you want anymore. Sometimes you find that your love is gone. You admit it to each other. Sometimes you admit it through talking. Sometimes you shout things at each other in the heat of the moment that you'll spend years wishing you could take back. Sometimes all of that happens. Sometimes none of it does. Sometimes that love is gone. We know it's gone But where did it go? And where do we go?

I have reminisced about this video for years. Re-watching, years later, it is just at emotionally engaging at it was then. Literally, no words can describe this video. It melds art and human emotion in ways only dreams and memories can grasp.

Arcade Fire gave grief a heartfelt beat and I'm so grateful for it. 20 years later and the sting of losing my mom is always fresh but songs like this guide me through. 💙

It's ridiculous how much this affected me, especially the little boy's dream. When he laid his head on his mother's shoulder, I lost hold of my emotions. That never happens.

i love these characters. i love the minimal dialogue. the moment when the man holds her in the black and white room was so much. his face. and you felt that you wanted him to just hold on forever.

Was vacuuming the house this afternoon and stopped because I heard a catchy tempo of this song...Made sure I Google the FM station playing it and record what it was and from whom. I just saw the video and wow - did it make me tear up (I'm a single dad of a young boy). Beautiful lyrics, excellent tempo and mesmerizing video and performance - cheers!

What I get from the video is... When you lose someone in your life and have a dream about that person it's almost like seeing them again. So, they're always with you in your mind. Kind of like a blues song... it's sad but comforting, if you get my meaning. Great video and a nice change up from the giant heads.

I listen to this song many times a day it's just in the background frequently, it wasn't until a few minutes ago when I was thinking about my grandmother thinking about a fish and chip shop and how I should ring her and see if she wants to hang out and get fish and chips there... My grandmother died a few years ago and for a brief moment that had slipped form my mind, the loss of it all came flooding back all the wondering and regrets and then I just wanted to listen to this song in this exact moment..so here I am, not just paying it as I normally do in the background but properly listening to it, hearing it again like the first time I heard it with this video and not just the music.

When i read all the comments, i get a feeling, what Music in common and Arcade Fire in special, can achieve. Lead people to their inner circles and long forgotten feelings, we all try to hide in our dungeons. Nearly no bigger force is working in us. Should be Music in everything.
