I would have even accepted a version of the sequels where Luke did try, but failed because he was too optimistic and trusting, and his new order fell to the dark side and used Jedi rhetoric to rationalise genocide of "Sith-aligned peoples". You'd still have Jedi VS Sith, but now they're both evil. It would make Rey the perfect redemption story, as the persecuted offspring of Sidious, reforming the Jedi order after Luke without his flaw of not being vigilant enough.

Besides Rey being the most powerful character in not only in the whole Star Wars franchise, also in fiction in terms of power-scaling. She is also the most well-written character in the whole Star Wars franchise and fiction. Many audience and real Star Wars fans who knows both the lore of legends and Disney canon that are not actually paid by Disney said they relate to Rey the most compared to most characters, or even all the characters in fiction. Her struggles to the dark side and anger issues are the most relatable and even those who are not Star Wars fans, the entire world relates to her which makes her the greatest character in Star Wars, and also in fiction. It is said that she is a Mary Sue, but she is not since once second of her training is infinite times harder than an average Jedi’s journey to Knighthood, including Anakin’s journey also. Her struggles and life is grueling, and Rey has suffered the most compared to Anakin Skywalker, even as a little girl, Rey suffered infinite times harder than Anakin’s whole life, including when he was Darth Vader. Not only Rey Skywalker is the most well written Star Wars character such as having the greatest struggles and training (one second of her training regime is infinite time harder than what the greatest the Jedi Knights or Sith Lords has gone through in their training to become a full-fledged warriors), with greatest character development and in not only in Star Wars, but all of fiction. Just a reminder that Daisy, a child of very wealthy parents who are in the Hollywood in-crowd, said that she's struggled _just as much_ for her career as John Boyega. That she's faced just as many hurdles and her wahmenness outstrips his POCness in the progressive stack. Daisy was sent to private boarding schools and enjoyed every luxury imaginable as a child and young adult. Her parents paid for all her acting classes and helped leverage their connections to get her the roles she enjoys today. John, on the other hand, grew up a child of immigrants in the UK and had to walk to a local theatre in second-hand shoes to try to make his acting dream come true. Look how they have each been treated by Disney: Daisy like a literal canonised saint of strong boss-babeness and John like a clown who, when he complained, was then treated like literal shit. I'm not saying that Daisy deserves threats or whatever, but she could try not playing the victim for a second since she's about as privileged as you can be.

I like how drinker has a lot of empathy for Daisy Ridley’s predicament. I often see (less intelligent) creators blaming the actor or actress for the character’s writing when in reality they normally have very little control over the character itself. Drinker correctly blaming the people behind the character is a welcome change
@captainblood9616 Жыл бұрын
100% right. Just as I was thinking "I kinda feel sorry for Daisy Ridley" Drinker said the same thing. Same deal with the poor guy who acted Jar Jar in the prequels, and I what's her name from the sequels. One exception is Brie Larson who is genuinely unlikable in real life as well as in the movie.

Padme for the prequeals and the awesome ending of the original trilogy. Honestly the reason why kids love the prequeals including myself as it was my first experience with Star Wars is because of how one event leads to the other, Anakin joining the order>death of anakin’s mother leading him to step into the dark side> to the death of anakin and birth of Vader. When you watch the entire six movies you get a better understanding of this monster of a man. While the sequel there’s no focus! We get this random sand girl and this cast of no bodies that get no development. The First trilogy developed Luke and showed him losing and evolving. Taking the call once he witnessed the evil of the empire> The first duel facing the physical form of the empires might and learning his connection to it> Finally saving anakin from the darkness he was drowning in and allowing anakin to used the might of evil to destroy the ultimate evil. You know what the sequels had? None of that!

What bothers me most about Rey when compared to Luke is that Luke - and the entire original trilogy's plot - was always based around the classic storytelling concept of "The Hero's Journey" (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hero%27s_journey?wprov=sfla1), as stated by George Lucus himself. THJ (as I'll shorten it to now) goes back thousands of years and has been used *countless* times for good blooming reason! Because it makes for a good story! Luke had his THJ, and it was utterly *destroyed* in the sequel trilogy. What's worse? Rey *doesn't have a THJ* ! She skips most of it, really. That's why she's so boring! It's utterly infuriating and saddening that we lose Luke - a flawed but ultimately heroic character - and get Rey, the fudging *perfect* hero... #nothanks!
@AtticusKarpenter Жыл бұрын
Good stories don't have to be very similar to THJ (although the popularity of the original trilogy rests in no small part on how brilliantly Lucas transposed classic THJ into space fantasy), but Rey's story is literally the dark twin, THJ's satanic bible that breaks every step and makes character uninteresting and repulsive in every possible way.
@karimb972 Жыл бұрын
And she is a girl. Most of us don't want to be led in battle or saved by a girl. It's a raw fact. We are hardwired that way. Men fight and women care for children and the elderly. That's the reason all those movies are so cringe: they all go against human nature.
@Feja2503 Жыл бұрын
@@AtticusKarpenter You can let the villain do it, but if the mc is that way it makes for a hateworthy character. Hell even a training ofscreen is better. Kylo, despite falling into the losing to girl MC thing is a more interesting 'hero'. Despite being the villain. Rey is written as a half villain, while Kylo is written like half a hero.

It reminds me of the mess the BBC made with Chibnal and Jodie as Doctor Who. It tanked badly, ratings fell off a cliff, no one was watching on Iplayer or catchup or BBC America etc either. The action figures did not sell either, but the classic era stuff continues to do big business. And now the BBC are trying to course correct but I think its too late. The Doctors character has been changed and damaged to badly to repair. The you tubers and mockery online was epic and its still going on. The show gets more publicity from people tearing into how bad it is than anything else. Its sad, but there you are. Star Wars is now in the same toilet. The reason for the "woke era" to be a thing, in the first place, is because companies can still make money while pandering to whatever social agenda happens to trend on Twitter that week The reason they were able to make so much money is because they could borrow so much with low interest rates. The reason for that is because in the 1990's a man called Alan Greenspan came up with a terrible idea of keeping interest rates very low for very long, with quick economy boom and awful longterm results. So Greenspan is the reason we have Rey.

One of my favourite parts of the Battle Angel: Alita manga was the Zapan arc, where Zapan - a secondary character introduced in the first arc - returned after Alita had savagely humiliated him and with the power of her lost nanotech berserker body, went on destroy just about everything she held dear: her adoptive father, her home, many friends and even those friends who survived treated her as pariah because of Zapan constantly shouting her name. Eventually, she defeated him but at great cost to her body and, even worse, with a firearm, earning her the death sentence in the Scrapyard; the story only continued because she made a deal with the city of Zalem to serve as their agent in the wasteland, to secure their interests. Because of her hubris early on, Alita suffered severe repercussions and ramifications down the line that inexorably altered the course of the story and delivered one of the most sobering moments for a character - and a female one at that - I've ever seen. To make a mistake is something that can define a character just as much as their feats and triumphs, something that Ma-Rey Sue Palpatine is painfully lacking.
