You recommend having a clear complexion - I've struggled with this my entire adult life and have used many over-the-counter and prescribed products, however the most stunning improvement happened when I changed my diet. I had to give up dairy, sugar, gluten, alcohol, processed and packaged foods (including cereal), and fried/fast foods to improve my digestion, and started drinking green tea and eating more organic, whole foods, and colorful/ leafy green vegetables. My complexion improved tremendously!! Eating the right foods DOES make a big difference for having a healthy, wholesome glow.

My clothing rules: no rips, holes, dirt, stains or wrinkles, even for at home. Stained items go in my “painting clothes” drawer, if they’re comfortable enough for that kind of activity, and I wear them for projects involving glues, paints, stains, etc. For linen, I iron before each wearing. I have found that linen/viscose blends wrinkle a lot less than pure linen and are even more cool and breathable.

I appreciate your insights. I was raised in a different era, and worry about the lack of "polish", style and manners in public. A short story: My husband work for a major university in the US. The girls wore sweat pants and casual pony tails, or a ball cap over hair. One day on his way down the hall, my husband noticed a young student who apparently needed to go to work after class. She wore slacks with a belt, her blouse tucked neatly in. My husband couldn't remember her hairstyle, whether is was short or long and pulled up. He did notice the young men ignore the girls in sweatpants, and turn their heads to follow the neatly dressed young woman. Appearance and demeanor matters.

What did the boys wear? To attract attention from the opposite sex isn't everyone's constant goal.
@baxterandcotton
@baxterandcotton 3 жыл бұрын
@@anireseegam6128 Most of the boys probably also dressed hyper casually, and you can be sure that when one makes the effort to look polished the girls notice him too. And although people shouldn't and don't spend all their time trying to attract someone, you never know when you'll meet "the one" and I think many of us would like to feel more presentable when that happens :p
@helenebennie3961
@helenebennie3961 3 жыл бұрын
@@anireseegam6128 I think this presenter's point is to look classy and polished. Yes, it is not our continuous aim to draw the attention of the opposite sex, but being sloppy is not attractive and it says that you can't be bothered. Our society has become so lax with presentation. We could probably all lift our game.

@@helenebennie3961 a general comment. We're not all the same size and shape...tall, short, thin, large hips or stomach, etc. I have a bit of a tummy and I will never look good in a belt.
@helenebennie3961
@helenebennie3961 3 жыл бұрын
@@brendamiller5785 That is true. But classiness does not depend on body size or shape. Being tall and slim may help you look elegant but I believe she was talking about classiness which is something different to elegance. Let's just all celebrate ourselves the way we are. However a bit of a prod not to be so sloppy is not so bad in my book.

Regarding skin blemishes....in my late 50's, I thought it was just a blemish. It would occur, clear up, re-occur, repeatedly, always in the exact same spot. It was basal cell skin cancer, and thankfully, was successfully treated. But scarring might have been reduced had I realized it was not just a blemish. Just a word of caution to your viewers.

A Part 2 would be wonderful. : ) My top tips, in addition to what you have mentioned, are: keep your teeth clean and healthy, keep makeup simple and in the same tonal family as what is found in your individual colouring, keep your jewelry in good repair, always wear a watch/timepiece, add some attractive glasses (prescription or “just for looks”), keep your handbag clean and organized, have good posture, perfect your “neutral smirk” (that mysterious smile you have when walking around so you aren’t grinning like a clown or frowning like a grump), don’t eat or drink on the go (snacking is fine, but don’t “walk and chomp” or “walk and chug”), and keep a notepad/day timer and pen or Kindle in your bag so you reach for that before your phone if you find yourself waiting. Thanks for the lovely reminders, Jennifer! : )

I do all these things. I take my shoes off when I come in from the garage and brush the sides and bottoms to keep my indoors clean. If they need more attention than that, I leave them in the adjacent laundry room until I can get to it, I have plenty of other shoes to wear for a few days to a week. I do all my wardrobe stuff early in the morning in my laundry room, before I need to run the AC there, it uses so much energy, and air-dry, iron and steam my clothes there. Nothing goes back into my wardrobe that isn’t 100% immaculate and ready to wear, so I think I already look fairly polished.

Thank you for your words of validation! I usually prefer a very short style (cancer-survivor-chic is what I call it), but am now growing my silver locks for donation. I now wear my hair in a pony tail, which I think is attractive and easy to maintain. It's still thick and curly, even in my 70s, the shape of my head has always been very good, no double chin, nice looking ears. The good news is that all my prettiest earrings are on easy display. I've had a few negative comments, mostly from family members, probably because it's uncommon for older ladies to wear that style, but I like it, and it's only temporary. Probably another four months before I'm ready to harvest it, and I intend to enjoy my long hair every moment til then. By the way ... I think the best thing we can do for our hands and feet, aside from applying moisture, is push back those cuticles.

This is a reflection on you. Your mother's rude behaviors may or may not be a reflection on her. As our mother's age they may be dealing with all kinds of challenges we may only find out about later. Like early Alzheimer's or dementia. UTI's that present with unique behavioral issues in the elderly, grief and loss, and sadly unhealed trauma from their own childhoods. Love your mother- that is the only thing that the people who see you and your mom in social situations will ever remember about you.

OK, day 2 of watching this video first thing. Yesterday, I ordered the Londontown Illuminating Nail Concealer (I love Londontown) and this morning I put on earrings and lipstick to walk the dog (and don't you know, I ran into visitors to the people across the street, when I usually see no one). Proof positive that you have to look presentable at all times (ha). Heading over to rewatch the manicure video as my nails are shot from thyroid issues, so want to make "bad" nails as presentable as possible. Looking forward to you doing another one of these!!!

I think also having a well appointed handbag in good condition also makes your look more polished. Having the proper accessories and if you can coordinate your finger and toe nails and or bag and shoes, that can also present well also. Just some of my thoughts. Loved this video! Thanks.

Looking forward to Part 2. Thank you for reminding us that looking polished is a message to ourselves and the world of how we're handling ourselves. We all know that the world acts accordingly, but we do too. I hope in but the only one who has gotten into unpolished habits which spiraled into more unpolished habits and continuing it all.

Spot on comments.I heard about Londontown from your site and I must say it is now the only polish that I use. It does not irritate my nails. Just placed a large order with them. I am very pleased and appreciate your sharing the information on them. Thank you for saying no to ripped jeans. I also wish women would not wear jean shorts that have ultra short hems with threads hanging on them. Love your look today.

I love all of the polishes from Londontown. Their nail concealer and the shade Invisible Crown are my favorites. I also love the way the milkmaid braids look on you! It's my goal to try that hairstyle this week. I have extremely thick and wavy hair, so I'm always looking for cute ways to put it up between washes. Your hair always looks so lovely.

I really like the illuminating nail concealer polish for that natural, effortless look on my mostly short nails. I find that if I pop on a wrist watch and earrings -- even with a t-shirt and jeans-- it amps up the polished look. I have curly "wild" hair and I do like it, but it takes much effort to keep it looking presentable (not polished in my case). I've recently discovered homemade flax seed gel which does great things to my curly mane and keeps it a little more tamed.

I put a wee bit of Nuxe gold oil on my hair- it tames the frizz, adds some definition and weighs it down a bit, as well as has a sun kissed kind of glow! I mix a few drops on wet hands and then sort of pull it through the curls :)

I am 43 years old and learnt many years ago that the best way to keep the peace with my hair is to keep it ultra short - the pixie cut has become my 'signature' and I discovered this quite by chance after having an absolute meltdown with my hair so I chopped it all off and have never looked back!

Loved your tips! I love Billie razors, too. I've used them for several years and have both of my daughters using them too! I think they work much better than Dollar Shave club for women and better than most razors I've used in the past. My biggest problem right now is my hair...when it's super hot and humid, mine just gets really limp. Need to figure out another way to style it.

I find a woman always looks polished if she wears fewer pieces and moving parts. A dress with less embellishment always looks more polished. Think a simple shift in a gorgeous color and a fabric with body. Pearl studs and a pearl bracelet or gold bangle.

I have just found your channel through The Clutterbug. I am a bee but more like a 🦋 at the moment. I have hit two milestones this year. I turned 50 and about to move house. Due to depression and ill health my looks and home have suffered over the past 15 years but over the past week I have had a couple of💡moments. The main thing was The Fantasy Self. I will get into those clothes once I have lost weight, I will be able to go buy those clothes in the quality and style I desire once a get to my ideal weight, I need loads of stuff to show how successful (or not) I am, I need stuff to be happy - all of this is the inner saboteur stopping me. So today I have gone through one of the jumbo compression bags which was not compressed and full of clothes, a double wardrobe which was stuffed full and a 4 drawer chest of drawers. And using what I have learned from just a few of your videos I have still a bag of clothes but they are winter and next size down clothes which is achievable, 2 of the thinnest drawers including general items ie hairdryer, sanitary items etc and the following items in the wardrobe core - 2 skirts, 2 trousers, 5 tops mixture short and long sleeves, extras 6 T shirts, 1 fleece jacket, 1 lightweight cover and 2 waterfall cardigans, 2 dressing gowns, 1 rain jacket, 6 scarfs. And the realisation I don't need to be perfect to deserve to look good, by looking good today I am good enough. Shoes and make up are next.

I like the analogy of the handbag keeping in step with the outfit. I often see ladies dressed very casually with really nice handbags in my area and it’s always struck me as odd. However I rarely see someone who looks polished carrying a shabby handbag.

I have a lifelong virus that causes itchy red bumps when I use anything creamy on my hands, so I just put in on my cuticles and a few other dry areas. I like to do my cuticles at night, then wash off any residual before putting my (natural color) fingernail polish on the next day. Using this color makes it easy to do my own manicures. At age 61, I no longer need to shave anywhere, so I get waxing in a few areas that still have a little hair when I get my monthly pedicure. It takes at least six months before I have to wax my underarms, for example, there’s hardly any hair. See, getting older isn’t all terrible!

Love Londontown. Just ordered the illuminating concealer. It's a great polish that doesn't cause damage to my nails. How do you mean? There is privilege in many things, beauty is one of them. Being beautiful also brings about a whole lot of problems as it does make you a target for envy, hatred and sabotage. There is good and bad with everything. I for one believe that good grooming is much more important than beauty. Good grooming, proper speech, deportment and wearing clean clothes are essential and can be had for low cost. Look for how you can improve rather than get hung up on ideas of privilege. It's the difference between having a growth and limited mindset.
