This reminds me of my childhood so much. My parents brought us to Kissimmee every March from the time I was 10 to 21. My mom loved 192. We frequently shopped at that K-mart, ate at the Friendlys went to the fleamarkets and visited the wizards. Spent a lot of time at OldTown and Walmart (in the hole) . We called it that because it was at the bend of 192. Good times and good memories!

Also for those who remembered right off I-4 back in the days Water Mania Park which it was one of the first water parks to open out there. Like I stated before, it broke my heart when I watched this video showing so many empty lots. Where the old Kmarts used to be at, Checkers, music stores, restaurants, gift shops. There were two Nike outlet stores off I -192. I wonder if they're still open! And one of the oldest store right off I-192, which is orange shape store which it's been there for more than 46 years. I've been going to that store since the early 80's . Back then there were a whole bunch of Days Inns hotels, even Howard Johnson's hotels with a restaurant next to it Shoney's restaurants and Ponderosa's .Here in Tampa, Florida, which is less than an hour's drive they all have closed down as well. Back in the late seventies, eighties and nineties you would take I -192 and there stores, restaurants, dinner shows, outlet stores, gift stores, hotels, motels, arcades including the Arabian Nights and Capone's dinner shows that we're open and much more! Wow, if this pandemic keeps on going until next year, how more small businesses won't be able to stay open. I even heard yesterday that American Airlines we're laying off more than 500 employees, most of the jobs in the Orlando airport! Like I said before if the area of Kissimmee, St.Cloud and Orlando are number one in tourism in the whole world and you're seeing many places closing down. Wow that's not good and I pray that there will be a cure for this pandemic thanks to the Chinese! And we can get back to living normal lives again, there's more than enough conflicts going on right now. And it's sad to see all these stores, places that like myself went too since the late seventies, which sadly none of them will ever reopen back up again, and how many people lost jobs as well! And .myself remembered so many places that where open for many years, including also the Houston Astros baseball team would go out there for Spring Training games for many years as well. It's sad that all these places are just a memory now! God bless everybody and stay safe!

Glad to see the two wizard shops are still open. Saw the sign in part of your video “ John Young Parkway” . Let me tell ya I don’t want to get stuck in that area again at 3:00 am . I got lost after coming home from Disney and ended up there . Saw somethings that shouldn’t have been seen . My brave mother in law at the time got out of the car and went into a gas station to ask for directions . As soon as she jumped back in, we high tailed it out of there fast!

I recently lived in Kissimmee. Lots of through local traffic from people who work at the parks. As you get farther east it seems to get more and more run down. Lots of payday loan stores and closed businesses now, and slowly disintegrating tourist traps. This area was something Disney always wanted to keep people away from because of all the knock off merch. Now resorts are trying to make it so the tourists don't need to leave property. So a lot of the local economy has been drying up for a long time.
@joeblevins10614 жыл бұрын
@@jhngh411 I live in northeastern Illinois in a pretty commercial district, and you'd think we'd lost a war or something. So many empty and abandoned stores. We're in the midst of a full-on retail apocalypse. And when AtW drove around down south, off the main roads, most of the places he visited looked like ghost towns.
@franciscoechevarria1744 жыл бұрын
It's sad to see all those businesses closed. And many parts of 192 deserted. So many malls empty! And now with this pandemic that's going on even worse. I live and grew up in Tampa, Florida. Less than an hour's drive from 192 Irlo Blossom in Kissimmee. And it's true the more you head East and farther that you travel on 192 the more empty business that you are going to find. But I also remember since I've lived here in Tampa for more than 48 years. We would go back in the mid eighties and early nineties and stay in one of the hotels of 192 and there were businesses open everywhere including K marts, but back then the Walt Disney Parks only had a handful of Hotels including the first two to open the Comtamperary and The Polynesian hotels built in 1971. And I stayed of 192, I remember going shopping to many outlet stores, indoor flea markets open seven days a week, going to Old Town many times and Fun Spot next to it .On the weekends it was hard to get a parking space out there. That was seven years ago. I don't know if many of those stores that I went too are still open and on International Drive it was full of hotels, motels, gift shops outlet stores, a huge Bass Pro Shop store , Fun Spot, so much to do. Now with this pandemic I don't know how many of those business are closed! If Kissimmee, St Cloud and the city of Orlando are number one in the whole world, and many businesses are closing down. Imagine the rest of the nation! From a park lover everybody stay safe.

@jenb254 жыл бұрын
Serious question- why is it like this? It sounds like these places were all open early 2000's so what changed? Genuinely curious. Did newer shopping areas open and replace this? Or is the area depressed?
@mszoomy4 жыл бұрын
@@jenb25 Disney has turned it into a massive tourist destination, there's a constant stream of people and they all need a place to stay (hotel) a place to eat and a place to shop while here. Disney has been here going on 60 years now and over the years the small hotels have been replaced by bigger ones, smaller attractions trying to make money off the tourists have failed and closed. There are literally dozens of smaller attractions that have opened and closed leaving behind abandoned buildings. Everytime a business closes a new one opens. There's not a lot of high paying jobs in the area either, most of the people who live in the area work in retail or the service industry so the residents are low income. So what we have is a steady stream of tourists with money to spend who want nice, shiny, pretty things supported by underpaid, low income residents. It's a mess. As they say, nice place to visit, wouldn't want to live there. As for the the influx of Puerto Ricans, I think it's pretty much the same as Miami and the Cubans. Once a group of people settles into an area and all their friends and relatives start moving in too, the population starts to swell. Plenty of jobs. And after that hurricane a few years ago we had a huge influx of people from the island who had lost their homes. Finally, the main road into Disney used to be 192 which runs straight across the state east to west from Melbourne to Tampa but about 20 years ago more, they built another road, Kissimmee Parkway to help with the traffic, that shifted a lot of traffic from one road to the other. Now that road is getting built up while the business along 192 are dying. It sucks, really, the city has no heart or soul. I love Disney but but sometimes I wonder how nice the area would be without it.
