This is hands down one of their best songs ever. However their most underrated/overlooked songs is The End Of The Line from the same album. It has everything you want in a metal song. Energy, bad ass riffs, perfect transitions, genious lyrics that are delivered in style. It is my favourite Metallica song ever and you should check that one out at some point.

I think it's one of their best songs but the fact that it borrows so much from their 80's songs makes me appreciate it just a bit less than their original similar songs (Fade to Black, One etc)

I think everyone who hated and wrote off Load and ReLoad should listen to songs like The Outlaw Torn, Bleeding Me, Bad Seed, et al with fresh ears. I wonder how many would still just hate the band for not remaking Master of Puppets for the umpteenth time and how many would begin to appreciate just how well the band could GROOVE on those albums.

@@Outlawtorn3711 what I've always liked about Metallica is that truly no albums of theirs sound the same with the exception being Load and Reload I guess partly because all those songs were all written in that time period all at once. Even with the backlash from so called "fans" they just did want they wanted to do and from it all, those two albums, that small slice of life in that period, came some of the greatest songs ever.

Hello I’m from Poland so I have 2 sugesttions for U First is Vader -i am who feasts upon your soul Vader is a Polish death metal band from Olsztyn. Formed in 1983, the group was founded by then-bassist Piotr "Peter" Wiwczarek and guitarist Zbigniew "Vika" Wróblewski. Vader went through several lineup changes over the years, with Wiwczarek as the only constant member. Since 2011, the band has comprised Wiwczarek on guitars and vocals, guitarist Marek "Spider" Pająk, bassist Tomasz "Hal" Halicki, and British drummer James Stewart. Starting as a heavy metal group, Vader eventually went to thrash, speed, and then in the late 1980s became a death metal band. It would not be until nine years after forming that they managed to release their debut album The Ultimate Incantation (1992); Vader has released eleven more studio albums since then. The band's name was inspired by Darth Vader from the Star Wars film series. Lyrical themes include stories by H. P. Lovecraft, World War II, and horror. According to Billboard magazine, by 2002 Vader sold approximately 500,000 releases around the world. Second is Acid Drinkers - blues beat down Acid Drinkers are a Polish thrash metal band formed in September 1986 in Poznań. Acid Drinkers were formed on 21 September 1986 consisting of Tomasz "Titus" Pukacki (vocals, bass) and Robert "Litza" Friedrich (guitar, vocals). The band's style is thrash metal, with influences of heavy metal and hardcore punk. Acid Drinkers are rated as one of the most important bands in the Polish thrash and heavy metal world. All the best !!! Listen and Enjoy 🤘🏼

Wow. Didn't think you would go that high with your score. Now I'm convinced you'd dig the entire Death Magnetic album. More so than the Hardwired album probably. Death Magnetic is where they tried really hard (maybe too hard at times) to recreate their 80s style. (And in true 1988 ...And Justice For All fashion they ruined good songs with horrible production.) Disregarding production quality (including the sheer loudness, which makes it dangerous to put these songs in a playlist with songs from other albums and listen to the playlist on shuffle through headphones), I have two main complaints with Death Magnetic. 1) It gets derivative. As you noted, there's a "Fade to Black" part and an "Orion" part in this song alone, and I'd add a "One" part to that. I remember liking the album a lot when it came out, but it didn't stick with me. At the end of the day, if I get to choose between the original 80s version of a type of Metallica song and the 2008 knock-off version, I'll always go for the original. The Harwired album feels more genuine and authentic to me, like something they just felt like doing at the time, as opposed to something they felt they needed to do for their fans that were pissed off about St. Anger. 2) There are lots of great riffs on the album, but some of the transitions are less than smooth. To the point that some of the songs feel disjointed to me. "The Judas Kiss" is a particular offender in that regard. It has some SICK riffs and an incredibly catchy chorus. Easily the best chorus Metallica has written since 1991, if not ever. But somehow, as a song, it's worse than the sum of its parts. But since these are issues that I also have with "The Day that never comes" in particular, they don't seem to bother you too much. So I think you'd really dig most of the stuff on the album. Out of curiosity, are there any other Death Magnetic songs lined up in the queue (if that's how it's spelled)? If not, someone needs to make an official request for "My Apocalypse".

Just saw Metallica and the Warning and Anthrax among others in Rockville. Anthrax impressed, The Warning exceeded expectations and killed it, a Metallica was disappointing. They were tight but played an opening of 3 older songs- Sanitarium off of MOP was great and so was 4 Horseman of of Kill em All but then they played the ENTIRE Black album in reverse for the 30th anniversary- this album with Load and Reload suck. I know you stopped listening after AJFA but most of Death Magnetic and Hardwired are really good and deserve another chance from you. I am seeing Metallica in San Fran again next month and they better not pull that shit again 😂 Thanks for reacting! Still looking forward to your Warning Disciple reaction which also won a priority Patreon poll 😁 forgot to include that Creeping Death in their encore was great as well and sounded amazing- James voice is really good and Inthink Lars has been practicing during the pandemic 😂

"I wish there was more bass in the mix" I would say you must be new to Metallica, but you're not, so I'll simply say *knowing smile*

It’s a shame that they paid someone to mix/master that album and it sounds sonically LIKE ABSOLUTE DOG SH**!! I HATE saying anything bad about the MIGHTY Metallica seeing as how I’ve been a diehard fan of them for 30 years, well in two weeks it will be 30 years to the day I heard “Fade To Black” playing in my older sister’s room and asked her who they were and she told me, I was HOOKED from day one. However if I’m being honest, Death Magnetic is my least favorite album of theirs. Yes that’s right I’m one of the 50 people that actually legitimately like St. Anger. I’m not saying it’s my favorite by any means but the only complaints I had on St. Anger is the same two everyone else has. The shi**y snare sound and the lack of guitar solos. DM on the other had just sounds AWFUL PERIOD. I know it was part of the “loudness war” wtf that means. It’s a shame too because I like probably half or slightly more then half the songs on the album. As a fully disabled combat veteran who deployed twice to “The Sandbox” before my medical discharge into my 7th year SSgt. I also liked The Judas Kiss, UN3 (which has Kirk’s best solo on that record), My Apocalypse and All Nightmare long. Great reaction sir and I look forward to seeing you do more Mark Tremonti reactions (especially since his new Album Marching In Time just dropped 6 weeks ago or something like that) and Alter Bridge of course!!!

The songs on this album are good, but the recording quality is awful. Having heard the guitar hero version the album version is just unlistenable. For comparison: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bH_JoqOoaN6aick

The video for this song makes no sense. The lyrics seem to be about a battered woman in an abusive relationship, not soldiers. Am I the only one who thinks that ?

The lyrics I believe are about James' childhood again and have some abusive parent elements to them. If I remember correctly, in the official lyric it was written "the son will shine" rather than "the sun will shine"

I feel that way about Jose Pasillas (Incubus). Something weird in his timing. I can't put a finger on it.

He's always ever so slightly ahead, especially live, like he's literally falling down the stairs and everyone is chasing to keep up. It's what makes Metallica, and if it's on the point and on tempo, then it doesn't "feel" like Metallica. Although in recent performances he seems to have improved his timekeeping and is playing to the correct tempos

I really like the song but I'm always annoyed by the sound of the snare. I think it's too loud and "smashy". After St. Anger I believe Lars has a problem with mixing his snare 😅
