I think that was the late Jeff Healey introducing the band. Definitely worth checking him out. Guaranteed to be blown away. He had a unique playing style to say the least, and he played with the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, BB King to name a few.

Hey David, Jeff Haley was the guitarist in "Road house" and like in the film, he's legally blind so finger boards the guitar - I think that's the term. I liked his cover album.

You need to re listen with the album version. Period. It's unbelievable.

doesn't do the studio recording any justice, one of my favourite songs from an amazing Canadian band.

The only thing that keeps this from sounding like a lost Doors performance is the lack of a keyboard. That's a compliment not a dig. And being able to sound like the Doors at their rockingest trippiness is something 90 percent of acts can't do. But...that guitar is better. And they have a subtle vibe of their own, heavier. You're right, effects are for enhancement. Some people use them like instrumental autotune yes but I don't think he is. This song isn't about technicality, or virtuosity, it's about vibe and groove. Wow really great score. Great reaction too! (Oh yeah, 1st, hah!)

I love the fact that Jeff Martin sounds like Morrison. Unfortunately, too many critics (and many in the public) blasted him for it (what happened to mirroring your idols?) and never have this band a chance. Kinda like back in the 80s when they blasted Whitesnake for sounding too much like Led Zepplin; personally I thought they sounded more like Deep Purple (possibly because David Coverdale was the lead singer for both). You should check out Sun's Going Down off same album; good chance you'll like it. Speaking of David Coverdale: you should check out the Coverdale / Jimmy Page collaboration Shake My Free off the Coverdale / Page album.

Love your reactions to The Tea Party. Hopefully Psychopomp is eventually going to get the same treatment. Fingers crossed.

@@LiesThatBind love the extended versions. I believe there's a small performance version with live strings from the Tangent DVD that is killer. Can't seem to find it tho. The song deserves the heavier ending they give it live than the album version.

Thanks for the review. I primarily chose this version because official videos have a higher chance of being blocked and this one shows them at the time the song was released. This was the first song most of us heard from the band. It was all over the radio and on MuchMusic (Canadian MTV). The boys started as a Doors cover band, I believe. To me, they always sound like a cross between them and Physical Graffiti-era Jimmy Page guitar.

Loved hearing your perspective of this song, subscribed. I think studio version is better, hope you give it a listen. Drummer must have been pretty stressed playing on the trampoline hahaha

The first 2 Tea Party albums (not counting the limited self title ep) answer the question, what if Jim Morrison sang for a Led Zeppelin cover band.

The singer Jeff Martin studied music at the windsor university but left because of musical differences with the teacher, and it has been said that he has a perfect pitch

Should have listened to the album version... the riff intro to the guitar solo stands out better and the accent/tempo changes are so awesome.

On the topic of effects on Jeff Martin's guitar playing, I will have to find it, but during one time I saw them live... He had an autotune module installed in the top back of a Les Paul and was deliberately playing 'off' chords and allowing the autotuner to correct it in this one song... Once I find it, I will edit to name it

I believe they have a shorter intro for the album version and their self titled indie album has a plus 6 minutes while their major label debut version is half minute less. The video has a cameo by Roy Harper and though it was released in the nineties, the music video looks like those promotional 70 videos and sometimes 80 for MTV when some older band would release a trippy performance video so some 70s hit could get air play on MTV.
