Sorry to hear about your job, DevilDog. I had a similar thing happen about a year ago when a 60-hour a week contract dropped down to like 5 hours a week without warning. It's rough.

The recruiting process to become a police officer is anywhere from 4-6 months. You have to take a written test (score least 70), physical test, oral board, polygraph, background investigation, and interview with the chief/sheriff. IF you get selected they will either sponsor you to go to the academy or you have to pay for it yourself depending on your state. Also, SWAT is not something you get as a new recruit. You have to do 3 years on patrol before you can even try out.

I've actually got 2 questions for you: -As an ex-marine and a fan of Mil-Sim videogames (arma2 etc) what is your opinion on Airsoft and other live Mil Sim things like that? -When you were deployed, what was the policy on ammo conservation? Were you permitted to just dump rounds like mad or were you expected to only use what would be considered a "reasonable amount"?

Being an Army grunt, I have some insight on this. You are gonna need the option 40 with your contract so be sure when time comes to get it. REALLY make sure you want this before you go. I have seen a lot of guys think they want it and when they get to RASP or even jump school, end up failing out.Saying it is one thing, confronting it and making it happen is another. Good luck.

Why would you even want to be an mp, spending 4 years as infantry has its downsides, but it’s still better than spending 4 years watching a gate and giving tickets and breathalyser tests to gunny’s. YOU WILL BE HATED. I’ll be honest it just never seems like there’s any point going mp, there’s no special treatment or transferable skills outside of police work, plus infantry get treated the same by cops anyway. There’s no reason why you wouldn’t go infantry.

Yes you can if the unit is in your state, and close were you live, and go to school. You can choose a mos that is available in that unit. For me its 0313 Lav crewman, i have to wait till October when reserve spots come open.

Yo quick question, in the U.S are blokes in the Navy who (In Aus we call them Boatswaines) who do the boarding and man the 12.7mm typhoon MG's POGS? Because technically they're the "grunts" of the navy, they do all the real shooting.

Samuel Harrison POG = Person's Other than Grunts, Grunts are the infantry. So POG's are anyone other than an enlisted infantryman.

I know DDG can't answer all of these questions so coming from a veteran grunt, we used simunition rounds which are essentially like paintball rounds but instead of using a paintball gun, you change out your bolt assembly in your M4/M16 to adjust to the rounds. Yes, they fucking hurt like fuck. My platoon sergeant lit my ass up with a M249 (SAW) point blank when I was changing and I couldn't sit right for like 2 weeks.

Hey man, Have you looked into the VRAP program at all? I am a Vet myself and work part time at my college helping other Vets get into class. I am unaware of your situation and why you can't use the Post 9-11 GI Bill or Chap 30, but you may still qualify for VRAP. The VA certifying official at your school should be able to give you the details. Much love brother.

Honestly we train as we would fight. The only difference here is changing out ammunition so we can face an opposing force of actual people and not paper targets in buildings with live ammo. To be honest I could give you a big long drawn out understanding of Army Infantry tactics from the team to company level but that would take forever. It surely isn't a free-for -all. As an example, say my squad got an operation order to kill or capture an HVT,

If you don't wake up, someone from your command will come to your room, scream at you, and your day will turn into a complete suck fest. I did that shit like my second week when I got to my first unit and had to carry around an 85 lbs ruck sack for the rest of the week while getting smoked and essentially destroyed. After that happens once, you usually don't fuck up again.

I really wanted to go Marine Corps military police because I wanted to be a dog handler so bad and you have to be a 5812 first. I'm signing an infantry contract instead, but wanting to be a dog handler will still be in the back of my mind.

Q & A question: Would now be a good time to join the infantry? I have been told that with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan being over, that infantry life is gonna be like the "Garrison Age" or something like that. How do you feel about it?

I would take that operation order and disseminate the facts to my 2 team leaders (alpha and bravo elements) my team leaders would then dissimeminate that down to their teams, (rifleman, SAW gunner, and M203 gunner). I would then have each team conduct glass house training to practice their roles on the objective. Then we practice moving as a squad. Then we execute the actual training mission. This case it would be a raid to capture whoever. As you can see, it is still very tactically sound.

He got paid really good and he did it for 2 years and was able to pay for college a bike etc. Its what im going to do that after my years. Also, while I absolutely understand the frustration with PMOs and the like, and I know it's unavoidable because no one really likes the guys telling em not to have a good time. But I'd rather know that they were out there trying to catch DUIs because plenty of good Marines have been hurt because of stuff like that, regardless of what side they were on. It's the job of the authorities, even in the military world, to be assholes. It sucks, but they do have their place and it's an important one.

pmo - piss me off? I don't know, the situation with military police in the US and in Finland seems to be reversed. In Finland, Military Police are some of the toughest guys on the base (that aren't special forces or stuff like that). Also they are almost the only ones that use anything else but the standard assault rifle (MP5, shotgun, pistol etc.).
