He should have prefaced the "work nonstop except for dinner" argument with, "they get shares in the company for their work"... its a CEOs job to work like a slave IF they are the ones who receive the profit. I think most people would happily work super hard if they have a decent investment in the company.

I went from $176,0 ftdebt with zero savings or retirement to now, 2 years later, fully debt-free and over $1000,000 net worth. I know that doesn't SOUND like a lot, but I'm incredibly proud of it. Now I'm fast-tracking my wealth building (investing $400,000 annually) and don't owe a dime to anyone. It's a good feeling!

Slower methods involve waiting it out for years. Saving every penny and pray that no bad luck confronts you in the process of hoarding. By 60 - you’ll likely have a couple million. His partner can be volunteering because he is a billionaire. Also, your friends are important if you have time that you would otherwise spend on raising children. It's a trade-off, give your children quality time or work. The working class do not have that privilege but if you can be a caring parent, that's better than just being at the dinner table. Who is making the dinner and cleaning up? Since Steven has so many guests on health, I am surprised that he did not push back more on eating badly in your twenties and being a workaholic. Of course, you do have to work hard to be at the top but it is not everything in life. The guest can fly on his private plane and then talk about climate change and not think we, the audience, will not think this is hypocrisy, is fooling themself.

And you get to live with the consequences of what you say. If some one punches you in the mouth because you insult them and you lose a tooth then your speech cost you a tooth even if the person goes to jail. It's the potential for actual losses that help moderate speech between individuals. You can't say what ever without consequences. Now we have decided (rightly so) that the government and it's police powers cannot be used to regulate speech. I as an individual can regulate the speech of those around me by being formidable in my person, intellect, strength, influence and power I also watch what I say depending on the circumstances so my speech is also regulated by individuals

Watching these shows, I sometimes feel sad that I was born on a farm in a third-world communist country torn by war. I first heard about the internet around 2004-2005, and I managed to buy my first PC in 2008. Now I live in the West, and life is good. I'm a civil engineer, working as a consultant for a global company, and I also run my own design office. I probably live better than 80% of people in Norway. But it makes me sad that I fell behind in my early years when it comes to technological development-especially during the time when people are at their most creative. That’s why I’m determined to provide my children with the best possible education in the field of economics, so they can understand money and the world around them. They don’t have to work in economics or technology, but having knowledge in these areas is invaluable. As someone who was bombarded with communist propaganda in my early years, I still struggle to fully understand the economic system I now live in.

Growing up in the inner cities of America never provided me with the exposure and education you and I feel like we've missed out on. Our 50th High School reunion was two months ago. We are still connected, share ideas and help each other. Some made billions, some raised super star kids, many of us started businesses, wrote books, got PhDs, law degrees. or MDs. It did not hurt that 60% of the kids were identified as gifted. The culture of exploration, curiosity, problem solving ,creativity and mutual respect was a great launch pad. For all the regular folk out there like me.. you don't have to be an inventive entrepreneur who creates a billion dollar company to get rich. If you get a good education and use that to get a good paying job. Then all you have to do is spend less than you make and invest the difference. If you start doing that in your 20s you will be ready to retire at 50 with millions.

Also what’re ur thoughts on having gaps on ur resume due to dealing with toxic people at ur job (didn’t do research on company before joining) There is only so much you can take even in a bad economy when it comes to toxic people. I’m the type that believes health supersedes everything including a nice cushy salary. But unfortunately this belief is a double edged swords. It protects and hurts. More benefits than costs. But how can I soften the blows? How does one justify a gap in a resume?

most startups do not IPO, let alone have the right founder. Not worth it. I’d much rather be a founder myself than work for one if I were to return to the startup space. It’s only worth it for new grads who have zero experience, couldn’t land a role at a top tier company and are aware they will be taken advantage of all for the sake of “building professional experience”. The one good thing is that I learned a lot of skills very quickly. But as one of the founding/early engineers, I definitely got screwed and unfortunately more than once
@FluidLifeWays
@FluidLifeWays 6 күн бұрын
I hear you, however, you should not join a start up for experience if you have none. You should probably intern for an established business so you can get some base skills. Or try for an entry level position in a company that has brilliant people working. Again, so you can learn and watch how it’s done. People coming right out of school really don’t know much and are not typically valuable. They think they are - mostly. That’s why they think they are getting burned. The time to join a start up is when you have some skills/understanding of what “team” means, and you want to be a part of an idea - not a product. This way you are not on the outside of the winning team ( should they win) You are a valued indispensable participant working with a (hopefully) visionary founder’s journey. By the by, this answer is more for someone that might be reading our conversation. Sounds like you’ve made the journey- good luck to you.
@FluidLifeWays
@FluidLifeWays 6 күн бұрын
But as you move to your founder position- don’t think for one moment that you won’t have to hurt some people on your way. It is inevitable. The tides shift and you WILL have to choose.
@mmoya1135
@mmoya1135 6 күн бұрын
@@FluidLifeWays personally, I think that if you’re targeting people that already have experience, they need to be compensated above market with tangible cash not pretend Monopoly money. Or if you believe on the potential of the Monopoly money and you’re one of the founding members but not a co-founder yourself, you need a similar/high % amount of equity as the founders themselves. If not, again, if you want to be part of an idea and understand a team, better to be the founder yourself and execute on your own idea and build your own team. I might return to the startup space… as a founder myself

But it's good that simpletons like you can be convinced that luck indeed exists because then you won't be competition, which realistically you could. Yes, realistically you could be his competitor, and he knows that very well, but of course you'll never allow yourself to believe that. Because you don't have the internal power to exercise faith, which is backed up by persistent relentless action towards ones goals.

Hearing him talk about his chances at succeeding being at 25% is really interesting when it comes to Linkedin. Really as you are working on whatever your idea is, over time the more you show up and put the work in and collaborate with the right people you bring that number up. So when you are first starting out your chances are probably at 0%. It's really your job to show up consistently and bring that number up.

So what I'm hearing here is that this guy had money, invested into PayPal, made a bunch of money off someone else's dream, continued investing in other peoples dreams while making LinkedIn as a side project because he had time and money. Can we admit that VCs are a necessary evil but that doesn't make them visionaries. Shark tank is a prime example. They see what could be the next big thing and then make offers with couch change to them but take a majority share of the actual entrepreneurs dream so they don't own it after they succeed. I could be wrong... but it will be hard to convince me. We have a business environment that though competition and protectionary regulation it is really have to start by yourself and not be bought out and eaten by the big companies because they don't want competition.

Reid Hoffman wasn't just an investor in PayPal; he was one of its key executives and part of the 'PayPal Mafia. He played a major role in scaling the business and shaping its strategy, which contributed to its eventual sale to eBay. After PayPal, he transitioned into investing, using his expertise to back successful businesses like Airbnb and Facebook-nothing wrong with that if you know how to create value and make money. As for Linkedin, it wasn't some side project-it was a platform Hoffman co-founded based on a clear vision to revolutionize professional networking. He put significant effort into its development, which is why it became the global success it is today I am not defending him , of course if we focus on all other aspects on his life and with people he is friends then it’s a different topic
