Nu Metal has kinda had a resurgence already, but not in a huge way, yet. There's a few bands who really wear it on their sleeve, though! The band Darkmatter is a great example. Check out their song "Binge" and you'll see what I mean. They're on the heavier side, but the sound is there 100%. Not to mention my boy Taylor Barber and his band Left To Suffer. Again, on the heavier side, but you can hear that sick nu metal sound throughout their music. I wouldn't call either one specifically nu metal, but the influence in their sound is loud and clear. I'm hearing it more and more in bands and I am here for a full on revival of this genre!

My Hot take expands upon one you discussed. When a band we love gets mainstream and we dont like that. This is going to be lengthy 1. When a lot of bands have gone mainstream, we witnessed changes we didnt like and after it happens so many times, its a knee jerk reaction to change. its conditioned, because we tend to remember bad more than good because bad we dwell on. So we remember way more times a band did this and we disliked it vs when bands blew up. 2. As you mentioned you dont have that niche little thing thats cool that not a lot of people like. I thibk it goes further than that though. While thats true, i think that when bands blow up, there is added pressure to release more and this affects quality sometimes and to be fair, theres TONS of stuff ive found where they just arent blowing up so they have time to get it right, but over and over again. Some bands just arent noticed despite that. I think pressure makes some people worse. Having those pockets of small excellent artists is nice. 3. When a band goes mainstream, people who wouldnt otherwise have an opinion or listen hear it and some dislike it because sometimes, you get posers out of it, acting like theyve always loved this kind of music but really know 4 songs and 3 are by 1 band, and their friend showed those to them. These people have....sloppy opinions. They can have them, but theyre clunky and arranged haphazardly because they dont understand it. Not to say you ONLY like it if you get it, but when someone GETS a song and actively pays attention to the content while these other people play emo dress up, and spend more time worried about their look to SEEM like theyre a part of a culture they arent its irritating. I personally dont like those people. But i love the look. Just dont play pretend. Listen to nickelback if you really like that, AND look emo, or whatever, but dont lie. I dont respect that. But who cares most of us are nobodies, us thinking ill of a poser is us taking it a LITTLE too serious. Music changes regardless of what a popular consensus is and metal had always tended to steer clear within reason, but some make more accessible music. Others use the sound and carry a simpler vibe or message, it just depends on what someone cares about ( within metal, like it being conveyed properly and not by someone who knows nothing about genres and why they exist speaking as if theyre aware when they arent
@brandonware93359 ай бұрын
I don't like when the word 'accessible' is used with a negative connotation. (BTW I'm not saying that you are implying that because I don't know.) To create something hooky and catchy that is also very meaningful is truly a hard art to master. For every Nickelback out there, there are a lot of bands who are better musicians but just can't fit the pieces together in a way that reaches large swaths of people. IMO, hating on something because it is 'accessible' is like hating people who listen to audio books instead of reading.

And to add, it's impossible to not like the genre or disavow it entirely, considering it embodies everything from hellishly heavy music, soft boy emo shit, beatdown hardcore, djenty prog stuff and so much more. There truly is something for everyone!!!!!!! Sincerely, a core fiend lmao.

I don’t even know why this is a hot take. Bands like loathe and invent animate have been releasing some of the best metal core I’ve heard in general
@MoonDevoured9 ай бұрын
I'd agree that it hasn't gotten worse, it's just that a lot of people have grown out of it (relatable). I'll hear a lot of metalcore and think that it slaps until I hear cleans, and be turned off. and yet I'll hear metalcore songs with the same style cleans that were among my first favorites when I got into metalcore, and enjoy them nostalgically.

It had its time, but in retrospect, I don't understand the fuzz about it. It sounds like stoner, hard, and butt rock. It was a great time, but grunge as a genre made no sense.
