Looks fab. I never had cornflake tart as a kid but my mum would make treacle tart with golden syrup, jam tarts and marmalade tart. Her other comfort dish was a plain suet duff and then we would put the syrup over it - that's bought back a memory or two. Mind how you go xx

Used to love this at school will be definitely having a go at making my own. Also we had some at junior school called traffic light which (if I remember correctly it was a long time ago 😂) was a shortcake biscuit base with strawberry jam, lemon curd and some green substance was really good take care xx

Never seen or heard of this before but it looks and sounds delicious. It kind of reminds me of Honey Joys. A classic Aussie school fate treat. We don't have school dinners here but if there was funds to be raised for anything these would always be part of the selection on offer. I loved honey joys but 0I bet they would be even better made with Golden Syrup, instead of honey. Just love the butter and golden syrup or honey combo's. Thanks for sharing...

Our cornflake tart at school was made as a traybake using pastry, jam and cornflakes no golden syrup/treacle. My Mam was a school cook and she made it at home for us too.

I thought I’d fallen asleep part way through … one moment the pastry came out of the oven, then the video cut to it having been filled & Ian was prowling around to eat it. I take it that the cornflakes were added to the pan & the pie base was jammed?

Looks like the clip of filling the tart went missing somehow🙄 I always delete files after uploading sorry everybody, but basically u mix cornflakes with syrup line casing with jam before filling and baking

Cornflake tart was on my school menu in the 60’s. I think the kitchen must have crushed some of the cornflakes because I don’t remember them being that chunky. Not my favourite I’m afraid but glad you enjoyed it. Never have seen a recipe for my favourite school tart. I remember it had currants in and had a crispness to the filling but have no idea what it was called🇬🇧

Ooh, I might have to make this. Can’t believe you’ve never heard of it. Cornflake Tart was a staple when I was at school. Manchester Tart and Minced Cobbler also spring to mind 😂 I’ve never owned any oven gloves. I just use folded up tea towels as my mum always did.

I lived in Wallsend most of my life and can’t say I’d heard of this recipe either. I moved to County Durham after Christmas this year and it’s everywhere here. Every cafe, pub, take out has it. I really must get around to trying it. Think I’ll make it myself. Though. Your recipe looks delicious. Not exactly weight friendly maybe 🤣🤣🤣

In the mid 60s I attended a very modern 'bilateral' school where they cooked all the meals on site. We had a choice of three mains and sweets (or alternatively cheese and biscuits) every day! The cooks made all their own coleslaw, bread rolls and even crisps. It was heaven after primary school dinners which were shipped in from a central kitchen made from cheap cuts of meat and fish and were absolutely foul even for a non-fussy eater like me!
