Great review. I agree with you, Whitehall Mustery is the lighter and simpler version of Letters from Whitechapel, I have already used Whitehall to introduce some friends to the hidden movement genre and I'm loving the game. Having said that, I still think Whitechapel is the better game, my favorite board game of all time.

Wow. Favorite of all time. That's a big statement. Have you played Fury of Dracula. I prefer that to Whitechapel because it's so much more than a hidden movement game, and more thematic.

+The Discriminating Gamer Yes, I did played Fury of Dracula, it's a great game, but I feel it is a more thematic game with more things going on, it is not just about hidden movement, which is fine if that is what you want. I prefer pure hidden movement and deduction, and I think in that regard Whitechapel is as perfect as a game from the genre can be, and Whitehall is amazing as well.

If we could combine this with a 19th century pop culture trivia game, we could have "You don't know Jack the Ripper"

Hey, what’s the song called in the intro of the game??? Very thematic
@TheDiscriminatingGamer3 жыл бұрын
It's from the KZbin Audio Library. It is called "From Russia with Love."

You could also introduce people new to the hidden movement genre with an obscure little game called Scotland Yard. Hopefully that game can be picked up by someone....
@TheDiscriminatingGamer7 жыл бұрын
I've played Scotland Yard and I guess you are correct, but Whitehall Mystery is much, much more fun. I think you'll breed more interest with this game.
@gabrielnorena7 жыл бұрын
The problem with Scotland Yard is that it is not about deduction as Whitehall or Whitechapel are. Scotland Yard feels more like random guessing and is not as fun or tense. I think Letters from Whitechapel has taken the hidden movement genre to a new level. Whitehall is now a simpler version of that same system.

I think I still prefer Gabriele Mari's earlier "Garibaldi: The Escape" for hidden movement games, but I'll only play it two-players.
@TheDiscriminatingGamer7 жыл бұрын
I haven't played that one- I haven't even heard of it. Perhaps I need to check it out. Is it still in print?
@Kotro7 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's in print, but shouldn't be too hard to find. Mind you, I'm not sure you would like it, as it is the... let's say plainest of his games. Similar core mechanism, here driven by cards, plus the historical theme is what attracts me most, even though it's not as glamourous as investigating gruesome murders or hunting vampires. :)

this is Letters From Whitehall 'Lite'.

I suppose that's accurate.

Would this be a good game to play with 5 and 6 year old kids?
@TheDiscriminatingGamer3 жыл бұрын
I'd be reluctant to recommend it for that age. There is a lot of complexity and strategy for kids that young. Also, the theme is a bit dark for kids, I think.

How does it look for two players?
@TheDiscriminatingGamer7 жыл бұрын
I haven't played it with two. I imagine it would still be fun, but one of the things I love about this game is the negotiation between the cops as how to proceed.

Yeah. I didn't think about. But...I'm still getting this game. It looks fun regardless. Thanks! 👍🏾

i still dont know of i can satisfy this purchase since i own letters.its a lot that i did like about this one.better smaller map,nice miniatures,only for 4 people.but the letters how you need to go with jack and kill and then run to hidout is sooo fucking tense. as for fury of dracula that game is overated.first the rulebook is junk and gameplay is broken. if you can count your turns with much life you have. you can just move on water like idiot and wait for your stuff to mature on the land.i played 2 sessions at full player count nobody likes that game. but they adore letters.
@TheDiscriminatingGamer7 жыл бұрын
Couldn't disagree more about Fury of Dracula. The game is incredible fun and thematic. Every game I've played of 3rd edition has come down to the wire. Love it a lot. I agree that the hunt for Jack in Letters is far more intense that Whitehall.
@FarkyJ7 жыл бұрын
nah i think its bloated with stuff that introduce too much downtime for hidden style of a game.and playing as dracula is way more interesting than hunters.second game that we disegree on :D
@TheDiscriminatingGamer7 жыл бұрын
And for me I prefer playing the hunters.
@grog35143 жыл бұрын
@@FarkyJ Just dropping in to say you are very wrong. Not only are you taking damage on the water but the hunters can track you VERY easily if they have any brains. Using the water is only a temporary diversion. Plus if you do it later in the game, the hunters will almost certainly use a card that forces you to reveal your area. Fury of Dracula is amazing.
