I've been a fan of Useless Farm forever, and Stanley 'happy dancing' is the single most glorious sight I have ever known. Never has an animal demonstrated such carefree joy as Stanley does, as he awkwardly leaps and kicks and flops around. It's truly a thing of unrestrained beauty. EDIT: To be fair, I have never seen Karen happy dance. I'm not sure if she's capable of being that happy, since her normal state is one of murderous rage...
@QueenStarNova Жыл бұрын

@memary673010 ай бұрын
I'm Australian... and that happy dance is the male mating dance....the female doesn't do it. If she likes his dance she will allow him to be her boyfriend until the eggs are fertilized and laid, then she will abandon them with their father and go looking for another male. Some of the trouble Amanda is having with Karen comes from the fact that female emus are solitary, nomatic and see other females as competition and they will fight each other for a male, especially if there are only a few males in their territory.

I've watched Amanda work with Karen for a while now and the change is just incredible. Karen is and always will be wild, as will Stanley, but watching Amanda meet her where she was when she first arrived on the farm, not trying to force her into some preconceived notion or box or idea of what she should be like but simply showering her with love and acceptance while placing boundaries, has worked a genuine miracle in this beautiful bird's quality of life. The first time I saw Karen she was terrifying. She had such a scared, chaotic energy. She doesn't look that way anymore, she looks like she trusts Amanda (most of the time) and that's a wonderful thing to see. 😊

Karen, Brad, and a few others are pretty aggressive but you can tell in her videos that Amanda loves all of them, even if she does casually insult them from time to time.

I just watched a bunch of recent videos of this angry bird and she is still very agressive bird. It is good to know that she has a forever home though.

Many years ago, I was on expedition to Australia (Operation Raleigh now known as Raleigh International). We spent some time in a new park area, the Kathryn Park. Amongst the rangers there was a known local Emu, Blue. He was known for having a liking of the colour and was very much a character when you met him...he either loved or hated you! One morning down at the rangers hut we met up with the ranger before moving on to some work he needed us to do that day and Blue happened to be at the station. At the same time was a small group of tourists, Japanese by the looks and they were obviously interested in seeing an Emu up close. The ranger suggested we take a moment and watch what happened. Now, bear in mind that there were signs everywhere advising against interacting with the wildlife, feeding them etc as they were known as "unpredictable" (which in Australian ranger language at the time meant "Good for a laugh!"). The only comment he made was: "Blue likes blue"...the gent of the tourist group just happened to be dressed in a rather lovely blue suite as he turned away from Blue to sort out his camera for shots of him. It took Blue less than a second or so to run up and "mount" the rather unfortunate gentleman and express his "passion" for objects coloured blue. Now I'd like to say way instantly ran to his defence...or at least distracted Blue from his laser focussed point of attention and excitement...but I can't. We spent at least 20 seconds laughing our arses off, trying to get our hilarity under control before we could even manage to assist the poor chap being passionately assaulted by the bird. To this day I'm not sure if we should have intervened earlier ...or enjoyed the spectacle for longer.

I'm very happy for Karen the hissing Emu. Stanley the friendly Emu helped her learn how to trust humans again & her transformation from a pissed off hissing Emu to a cuddle buddy Emu, really a beautiful transformation. Her & Stanley's adopted human mom is absolutely brave & very well patient when it comes to working with these magnificent giant bird's.

I just saw this video today and it's from 11 months ago... I've been watching for two or three months now and Karen is an absolute terror😳 so I guess she reverted to her old ways but it was nice to see that 11 months ago she was actually enjoying being loved on and reciprocating it... This past Easter when you put the cute little knitted hat on her she was nice but then after that she didn't have the hat on and she was back to her old nasty self... Maybe she'll be nice again since we've seen that she has it in her. Good luck💖💖💖

I think Amanda just often at its old clips of Karen attacking into her videos, because at this point, it's what we all expect, it gets used, it gets engagement and comments and likes. If you look at the clothing she's wearing in the video, frequently that clothing will change. She'll be doing a spring video, but the attack portion is from Winter. Or she's wearing a black T-shirt, but the attack portion shows her wearing her overalls and a winter jacket. Not going to nominate Karen for sainthood quite yet 😅, but I think it's not as bad as it used to be
