easy. Laws are set up to reward businesses. They make their objections known w/ huge lobbying effort to protect them from rules & censure. Not much is done for social purposes and human benefit. When you have a majority of politicians that favor business & profit over society, children, women's health, animals & our flagging planet, this is what you get.

Dog breeding is stricter then it has ever been, abusing animals have been more sever crime then it has ever been. At least if we are talking America. Now I shall give a example of the interesting situation where I live. My town has little to no strays. Now they do turn a blind eye I might say to how many dogs you own I can only have three but I have eight. Either way not bad, however twenty minutes away on the rez where I work same policies apply however there is a entirely different culture and government. I see at least a dozen dogs dead on the street a week I feed starving dogs and I've seen many dogs used as target practice. By all metrics by many who claim more government is good they should have it better since it's a centralized control by the federal government, yet it's horrible here. Last week I was feeding a stray girl at a rez gas station, a native woman walked by and tried to kick the dog despite it not paying attention to her since her focus was on the food I had just given here.

You know, in situations like this, I really do not care if the owner "had a lot going on" after the fire, the fact that they basically just abandoned these 2 innocent souls that had been used to make money for the I owner is just disgusting! You can clearly see the ribs on the Dane and that they are both suffering from mange, the Mastiff more than the Dane, and the fact that after their ordeal, trauma (from the fire) and suffering that they are STILL so gentle, good natured and friendly is just staggering. If they had been human their is no way that they would have been so trusting of strangers, they would instead have done everything they could (including resorting to violence) to get the rescuers to just leave the property, despite the fact that they would have been desperate for, and all because they would have been unable to bring themselves to trust anybody who was trying to help them. So yeah, dogs and cats are just truly extraordinary creatures and we can all learn a great deal about love, trust and faith from them. After all, for most dogs or cats that suffer from horrific abuse, forgiveness of the species that caused that abuse is usually very quick to come once they are removed from that situation and are adopted by people who want them and who treat them the way they have always deserved to be treated, from the beginning.
