I saw a child in the vets office cry uncontrollably and unending quietly in a corner, till we went home she is still crying, no matter what her mother say or do she just can't help crying and totally inconsolable. It came to a point where the mother is angry because its upsetting all the people there but still it cannot be helped. I can't hear what the mother is saying because she is whispering. At first I thought it was child abuse but I was shocked when I saw she has a sealed box beside her and realized it was her beloved dog ready to be taken home. Her phone is filled with memories of her dog and their love together. For a child losing a beloved pet can be like losing a child of their own.

My parents introduced a chihuahua to me when I was born. His name was rox or something like that. He was sitting next to me and growling at anyone who got close. One day when my parents got back from work and grocery shopping they found my cord and come off. And rox was chewing on it. I didn’t seem unhappy but my parents still think either it just fell off and he thought it was some kind of toy to chew on or he himself noticed it and pulled on it till it came off. I was also pretty allergic to dogs with fur and him practically smothering me didn’t help. So they had to send him to another home. They discovered that it was dog fur that I was allergic to and tried to find dogs with very little fur. We eventually stumbled on spot who was abandoned by her mother because she was born deaf and couldn’t hear or see who mother. She was showing ribs and we managed to care for who. She also scratched off her entire upper coat so you can see who pink skin if you look at her from certain angles. She’s very old now I think 8-9 but she still does this very annoying paw thing to try to get out attention. Oh and I guess she liked barking at absolutely nothing rallying the other 2 dogs to join her barking at an “intruder”.

@@karindickinson7993 thank you so much for this, it was so beautiful and it brought a tear to my eye. I hope that one day I will get to see him again, that he is waiting for me somewhere where he is happy and healthy. He had the most beautiful soul, so so gentle and kind, very well behaved and playful. He always let me get in his space, he didn’t growl or get fed up. He knew exactly when I needed him. In the mornings he would come and wake me up for school by sniffing my face and waking me up with a laugh and when I was sad he would find me in my room and lick the tears from my face. The adventures we went on in the garden when I was little I will always cherish. When we had to put him down he never freaked out, he was so calm, he lied down with his head on the ground and looked up at all of us like he knew it was time and that he understood why we had to do it. He was so relaxed, never moved from that position and just kept his eyes on us, he let the vet do what she was doing. I held his paw the whole way through until the end when we had to leave, but we were there for him right until his last breath and he passed knowing that we were there for him. I’ve even kept notes on things I never want to forget about him. He was a beautiful mixed dog, part Staffordshire, part Labrador (we think) and part something else. He had a beautiful black short fur coat with white around his neck and tummy and white tips on his paws and a black polkadot spot on the white patch on his neck. I adore him. I hope everyone will be able to happily reunite with their departed pets one day. Hugs ❤️

That's what I feel whenever I watch videos like this. Yeah, it's super cute for you, and I'm sure the baby and pup will have a great few years together.... but dogs only live like 10 years. Losing a pet is hard. I've experienced it. But imagine being 10 years old... and losing LITERALLY your best friend of your WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE... at age 10. A constant. An entity that has been side by side with you every single day you've been alive. And then at age 10 (or whatever)... you lose that constant. I'm not saying DON'T raise pets with babies... I'm just saying my heart hurts for her future pain. My Dad always told me, when I used to beg for a cat or dog... "It's nice when you have them... but it hurts when they leave."

Strangely enough, there are health benefits to this kind of relationship. You have to admit that exposure to the world and developing various kinds of natural resistance is there. Plus, there are so many stories of kids being saved by their pet siblings in so many situations. One little lady was missing. The family chew chew dog was going nuts. Finally, he got out. In a little while, he was gently leading the little girl back home by firmly pulling her shirt sleeve and would not let go. The family just now accepts the various chewed toys selected by the dog.

You do not need animals to learn compassion. In fact, it is abusive to keep animals captive for your own entertainment. Pet owners are often the least compassionate people out there, especially since many pets are completely neglected and many are directly abused. Shelters are overflowing with neglected pets. So don't give me this bullshit about pet owners being great people. I often find also that the people who claim they are so 'compassionate' to animals are often anti-human and anti-social.

One of the hardest things I have ever had to do in my life, but the vet was kind to us and to Kiss, he made an easy transition. Mom and I held ourselves together, till we got home, where we both had the screaming fits, hey it happened, grief can do that. But in his own way he's let me know that he's still around me, and Mom's with him now too. And she's spoiling him rotten I have no doubt.

I don't think they automatically take the pet away, the decision is based on the pets behavior. MANY pets are not recommended to be in a home with small kids.

I had an adult husky when my son was less then a yr old and he was so gentle with my son. He would be in his walker and the dog would give him a big wet kiss and my son would just bust a gut laughing. Letting a pet and a child grow up together does wonders for development.

My son grew up with a Labrador. The benefit was that my son has no allergies. All childhood diseases were minor. Faster walking. Wanted to keep up with dog. Always a friend that always listens. That what was not so good was when his best friend died in the age of 16. So we have a new one.

So true. My only regret is why i didn't get the cat earlier for my daughter. She had been asking since she was 3 and for some reason I said you can have one when you're 9! So random. But I stuck with my word. The cat is an angel and my daughter loves her so much and I'm obsessed with the cat too. I wish I'd done this earlier.

@@nikieberhardt4624 I honestly don't think you were wrong in waiting till she was older. A 3 yr old can hardly be expected to look after an animal properly without the kid just up and abandoning things to the parents. A child of 9, however, is old enough to understand that that pet is theirs to take care of, and ought to be treated like they would treat their best human friend. But that's my thinking on the matter.

My mom used to have a pet dog, when she was younger. When he died, my mom really got very sad. When I asked her, she told me that when a pet passes away, you won't be able to handle it. One of the major reasons why I m not allowed a pet. I hope one day, I will be so strong, as to believe that my pet will go to a better place altogether.

Pets aren’t for everyone - I think it’s sort of pretentious to assume someone is “missing” something growing up without an animal companion.

This short story of Hazel and Rio is very cool. It's amazing how they both are growing up and becoming loving friends. I, too, would love to understand what they both are thinking when they are together. It's truly a bond that no one will full understand. Priceless!

The real outstanding part of it all is that Hazel's parents let them mesh together. Weren't afraid of that physical closeness: i.e. germs, cuts, bites. This relationship shows how if you pay attention you will notice how much animals communicate with us and we just don't pay attention.

I once met a dog and her family on a summer vacation while my group was waiting on a train platform. I was in a tense spot in my studies, having turned in a deciding Exam but had to wait for the grade over my vacation. And we just had missed out previous train. So the dog let us cuddle her and we provided a full round of belly rubs
