Exactly. My family had pets even before my sister and I were born… they were always in our life, and we were taught very early to be respectful, calm and gentle with them. We were part of their lives, we sometimes fed them, brushed them, gave them water… we learned to be responsible for them. I will be always thankful to my parents because I learned so many important lessons so early - it didn’t even feel like learning or doing chores, they taught us to see the joy in caring for another living being (and we both have enjoyed it ever since). I genuinely pity and feel sad for all the children who grow up without animals (or with animals, but nobody shows them how to behave with them) because they miss out on so much.

@@unkownshoo1038 first off, I love snakes and other reptiles. I’ve owned large constrictor snakes and they are amazing creatures - so I’m not one of these anti-snake people. I also have a degree in biology and have taken courses specifically in herpetology. I do agree that certain species of snakes are more docile than others. Some snakes with routine handling can become acclimated to human contact and tamed to a degree. But saying a snake is domesticated because it is calm and doesn’t behave aggressively is a big stretch. Unlike cats and dogs, which underwent thousands of years of careful breeding to finally become domesticated, snakes function almost 100% by instinct. That snake in the video is a beautiful specimen, no doubt. It appears to be well taken care of. However, make no mistake, that snake isn’t hanging around that little girl because it thinks it’s a friend and wants to play Barbie dolls - she is a heat source, nothing more. Hopefully she doesn’t become a food source. It could easily kill her, could even do it accidentally. So again, I’d encourage anyone who is responsible to have a snake if they want one. But it is more of one of those pets that you observe as opposed to having a 2 way interaction like a dog or cat or even a hamster.

@@twiesix Not really. Dogs do seek human touch often, true. But cats usually don’t really care so long as they get food and lots of intelligent animals stills don’t actively look for it. The inly thing I can think that wants to be pet are dogs, but usually dogs like to be pet since we can scratch those itchy spots they normally cannot reach. In terms of affection, I think dogs may offer themselves for pets to show it since it’s something they’ve learned to just do. But typically affection isn’t really a thing animals show to humans. So… meh.

I used to have a 14ft Burmese that I got when he was around 10ft long. It was during the winter (he was a birthday gift) and the reptile store we got him from was going out of business because of the horrible way they ran the store. It was *freezing* in that store, and the snake was only like 150 dollars, which for a 10ft Burmese is mindblowing. But they needed to sell him and most others were intimidated by his size. I had them take him out of the enclosure he was in and he seemed fairly calm, but I learned a few days later it was only because he was too cold to show his aggression. For about 3 months he'd strike at his enclosure when we walked by, we had to cover his head to change his water and clean the pen, and feeding him was a lesson in stress. Then I started letting him out of his pen and it was like night and day. The more he was out and socialized, the better he got at being handled and around people in general. Eventually he got to where he would actively seek out company with us, he'd get into the shower with us, he *loved* attention from the neighborhood kids when we'd take him out to get direct sunlight during the spring and summer. He never once even hissed at the kids, let alone tried to bite them. He basically became a giant scaly dog. People think reptiles incapable of any kind of emotional connection but they really aren't these cold heartless unfeeling machines most people believe them to be.

@@EmeraldView Snakes of that size love water because it helps support their weight and also hides them (at least in the wild) so we'd soak him in the tub a lot. He came to learn what the vibration of the water being on meant and would find a way out of his room, get into the bathroom, and plop himself over the drain so the water wouldn't drain out haha.

A stressed snake is a SCARY snake, because that's when they start acting the way people think they ALWAYS do, but a content snake is usually a lazy little creature. You can tell Cher's super loved by this family. Thank you for adopting your own big'n, I hope they're still very happy and healthy with you.
@WittySomething3 жыл бұрын
@@ignightroad With him we found out after calling the pet store a few days after getting him that he'd been brought in by a guy who's wife had just had a baby, and she didn't want the snake around. He'd never been socialized, so he wasn't used to human interaction and stuff like that stressed and spooked him. Like you said, people think these animals act like that all the time because that's almost always the side that gets portrayed and "hyped" up. Kind of like how you only ever hear about bites from big dogs, even though little dogs are more prone to aggression and bite people all the darn time. As for my snake, he unfortunately passed away about 15 years ago. We had to leave our house after a winter storm left our basement flooded and our house without heat for about 8 days. We weren't allowed to take him where we went to stay, and no one we knew was willing to take him in for an unknown period of time. We had some space heaters on in the bedroom he was in (our electric was back on the next day but the water in the basement didn't drain out fully for the heater to be replaced for about a week) but it wasn't enough to keep him warm and he froze to death. To this day it still upsets me.

I like how the father trained his daughter to be safer around the snake ,and gives this snake respect and space …but also taught the snake boundaries ,and socialized it as well so no one‘s going over the line. and even though he trusts the snake, he doesn’t leave her alone with his daughter just in case .this is great ownership of an animal, and I respect this man on a very high level.👍🏻😌

Both are so gentle towards eachother, its just amazing. You can see the respect they have for eachother. That bond, yeah, no matter what, i dont think that snake will hurt that girl, like ever, even if shes left unsupervised or she feeds her. If something, it think that already hard core bond will be even greater then it already is. Im just amazed for real. I wouldn't dare do the things that girl does with that snake, and i guess its becase i wasnt rasied with one. The snake can feel her, she feels her being calm, pointing out she aint there to harm her, so she replies the same way, treating that girl with such trust, its mind blowing.
